Hey amigos I was just wondering if anyone has any idea of how to mark many different strains. I use colored zip ties that that I cut into small pieces and stick in the rockwool. The problem Is that that there are only so many color combinations. Plus, as the plant grows, there is a chance the zip tie piece will fall out. I need something commonly found and easy to apply or use on hundreds of plants.
If the rock wool is wrapped, it is easy to mark the block.
If the rock wool is not wrapped, it is still possible write on the rock wool, careful not to use toxic ink!
not wrapped, I use the little 1.5" cubes. I don’t think the marking will last 3 months, or, better yet, I would be afraid of the markings washing off.
I noticed the zip ties fade in the light.
*also, I need something super quick because I am working with hundreds of plants
Maybe elastic bands with tags around the rock wool
If these are being used for Hydro, the ink won’t last a week if it is veggie based.
I think I might try scaring or, like tattooing on the stem however that still might be slower than I want.
I like to use colored plastic cocktail spears for my color coding.
Just stick them in the grow medium.
Easy and fast.
Although you may not find enough color combinations available for your needs?
Really perfect for marking.
I have been wrapping a piece of masking tape around a stake (toothpick, cocktail spear) to create a sort of flag, and writing on the masking tape, then sticking it in the soil. toothpicks were a little too short now they are just laying in the soil, i have to dig to find them sometimes lol.
you could also create a legend with a laminated paper showing a map of the tables or rooms then mark on the laminate with dry erase marker which plant is where. that’s what i did with my aero cloner.
this is what I have been thinking about.
these could be placed higher up so they can go all the way to the drying room.
