In line fan Silencer do they work

I use them as well and never had a problem that’s why I purchased the VIVOSUN fan in the first place

I would say , you get what you pay for regarding fans paps , best go the pro unless same motor just lighter housing etc

Im going to root a WC and Mac for you, send them to you as rooted clones. Giving you a heads up.

Took just rooted clones and potted yesterday. Will let them grow and root till they are almost too big to go into the shipping box, THEN im sending them. Be about 2-3 weeks so make room :sunglasses:

I’m using the 6" Lite, the cheapest one they make. I use an Inkbird instead of their controller, it’s very silent and powerful, I run it at level 3/12 or so, with a 4" Vivosun also pushing in a second vent, to ventilate a 4x4, with exhaust going half out into the lung room and the other half pushing through my 3x4. Seems like it’s the same everything just less computer and a simpler case. I’m very happy with the Lite.

I am running a 6 in pro as an intake

Since I no longer use the tents and the space is a bit larger then the 2 tents I was running I figured the 8 in in-line would be best for the job

How long have you been running the lite 6 in

I got mine in the fall last year for the winter grow season, so it’s only got three and a half flower cycle on it so far, call it about 200 days of operation.

I have the 8in it is loud. The 6in is the way to go. 440 cfm. There 4in isn’t that bad. I have two of there fans that have lasted a few years. 24/7. But I do notice that a fan that hangs sometimes will start making noises… but if you have the filter sitting on the floor and the fan sitting on top, they seem to last a little longer.

I wondered about the mufflers. I have a separate tent that I run all my exhaust into. It keeps it very quiet. The spray foam was the best thing that I ever did…
You hear my grow area about a foot away from it. Happy with that. I have been looking at some more fans. but the one thing they have started is a warranty and I do like that. People think we got it made. That this is so easy to do and so cheap. It is not. I do shop around. I do try to get stuff on discount. I am in the market for a new fan. The last one I got is a hurricane and I’m probably gonna go back with that one because I have a five year warranty with the fan and the filter. Just a little pricey just under $300 for a 4 inch.

Thanks for that resonance explanation @GREANDAL that makes a lot of sense and I found this good page getting into it, I want to know about this because I am extremely sensitive to industrial and electronic noises, I can hear very high and low compared to most adults and EM resonance in badly designed electronics (the “buzz”) is very frustrating to me, along with this type of mechanical/acoustic resonance. I feel like that’s a whole topic worth starting- resonance and feedback both in electronics and mechanical systems and also in the grower-plant relationship of mutual care.

“A principal area of concern is the effect of blade pass frequency. Blade pass frequency is a pure tone produced as the fan wheel rotates past the fan outlet (or cut-off sheet) in centrifugal fans and past the straightening vanes in axial fans. This is similar to the sound heard when a moving object passes a stationary object (such as an automobile passing a person standing still). The blade pass frequency is calculated by multiplying the number of fan blades by the rotating speed of the fan wheel (rpm) as shown in Equation 1. If this frequency matches or is very close to the natural frequency of the connecting ducting, it can excite the ducting resonance and increase the noise level.”

I gotta try and talk sometime with an old coworker of mine who was a journeyman HVAC guy in Ottawa before he became a bike messenger in the US. He never joined the union here but people used to find that out and try and hit him up to build ventilation for their grow setups but he always said no. Weed wasn’t really his thing, he was more a beer and blow sorta guy, one little polite Canadian toke on the joint and he’d throw his hands up and say “yeah man I’m good whoooo”.

It is funny how we hear that. A normal person coming up would not. I had a fan here a while back. I swear I could hear it when I turned the block. And it wasn’t that loud but it was that. It wasn’t that loud. Just a little vibrating. The one thing that has really helped me is the new highway. It is not loud in my neighborhood, but you have a lot of background noise. So when you hear something you can’t really tell where it’s coming from. Cold-weather everybody burns a fireplace, so that really helps out with a smell.

I think that some folks with the ability and inclination, like myself and maybe you too, get used to hearing very precise frequencies and harmonics in our everyday lives. We link them to whatever makes them or wherever we hear them and tune them out most of the time, but then when they change or we go away and come back they appear in our perception again. I think it’s totally reasonable that your fan makes a sound that’s unique in your neighborhood and you can sense it when you’re still very far away. Just like we can tell when a ballast or fan motor is about to go off or at least got worse by the way the sound changes from what we expect. Humans are just highly adaptive, pattern-seeking, tool-making primates, ultimately. Think about walking around in the woods, no artificial sounds for hours, then you hear a gas motor somewhere. I bet you hear that thing a mile away, maybe a few miles, much farther than you would hear a car coming if you were just in a quiet neighborhood. We all know what an internal combustion engine sounds like down in our bones, so when it’s absent and reappears, you can feel it before you hear it. I have that happen when I’m hiking, I can often feel high tension wires before I see them because they throw off some kind of audible hum of EM that’s not present until then on a mountainside.

I agree. Was looking at a new fan. Had to put a battery in my car. 200$. Next time. lol I do worry about the sounds. I have the smell eliminated. Good topic @Papalag i though about asking the same questions.

60hz is quite a low frequency. Low frequency vibration in air can travel great distances and are essentially nondirectional to our ears.
