Hey, new grower (as far as cannabis) here! So far I’ve been using all autoflowers.
Wanna introduce myself to all of you, I was referred to this site from a grow forum I use. They shut down a thread I made for trading beans and someone very much encouraged signing up for this site. So hello everybody. My experience so far is very limited because my state just went legal but I tried good organic soil and CocoLoco, I def like what I get from Coco much more. Running Mars Hydro 2000, and the tent and all the generic equipment is mostly Vivosun. Cheap price, well made. I just don’t use their lights due to the spectrum (as a new grower, I just use LED lights, I care most about keeping it simple and functional.) The Hydro lights up my 4x2 to the point where they don’t even have to be under the direct light (at least, before flowering).
Btw is there REALLY that much of a time difference between fem and auto harvest? I’ve seen autos that grow for 2 months or more. I’m tempted to work with fems because they require less light (at least flowering) and give bigger yields

First… Welcome! Pull up a chair and get ready to read a LOT of good info here…
Fem (short for feminized) can be either automatic flowering (autos), or photoperiod triggered plants (photos). Its basically a seed that was bred and lacking the male chromosome so you get all females and dont waste space on males if you arent breeding.
Auto vs Photo. Well, generally autos will be much shorter time to harvest, I’ve had some go from seed to harvest in 70 or so days… Photos can be in veg that long if you want, and some really long running strains can be in flowering well over 100-120 days.
Definitely wanna read up some more. Fems requiring less light? nope, never heard that. You do have a decent light though, you’d be surprised how well LEDs can compare to halides and HPS bulbs… Photos can give bigger yields, outside monsters can yield pounds… But autos can do pretty dang good for a 2 month grow… 250-300g from 4 plants in 2 months would be enough to keep most people I know stocked for the year LOL
