Johnnypotseed’s 3-ring circus - with autos, photos & sex…reversals, that is! (Part 1)

Best was at work I interrupted a coworker talking with a customer to say “Sorry to interrupt, but happy 4:20”. There was much rejoicing.

Mornin’ mofos!

My phone alarm went off last night to alert me to close up my tents (formerly my silver spraying alarm) and I walked into the room to realize I never thought to reset the timers and my flower tent had been off for an hour right next to my brightly lit auto tent :grimacing: Oh well. I’ve been militant about it so one hour isn’t going to hurt but I felt very dumb for a minute

Home assistant took care of the time change on my timers for me…

But I did leave the photo tent open one night last week. Poor girls got an hour of indirect light the next morning at 6am (their lights dont come on till noon)… OOF!

I think an hour of dim light before dark isn’t that bad. Surely an hour of light 2/3 the way thru the night pisses em off a little more

I really am considering the purchase of 4 sheets of drywall, and a few 2x4s, and a pair of cheap pre-hung doors. The grow area is a wierd shaped room that I can split into a 6x7 room and a 6x8 room, move the tents out and just put doors thru the walls. But then I would just forget to shut the door I am sure…

I honestly feel folks make too big a deal of an extra bit of light here and there during the growing. I’ve never had any stress/hermie from an accidental bit of light. An hour isn’t anything to worry about, these are hardy weeds that take a kicking and keep on ticking.
Now if during the bud cycle, you maybe ran the lights on for a day or two , or off even for the same…you might have some probs lol and even that isn’t a guaranteed thing!

In nature, there is no ‘timer’ for the sun to come up and go down, it changes almost daily…Plants aren’t that finicky … unless we make em so tender and fragile from all the crossing?

lol and even then it’s hard to get em to hermie… for pollination purposes, I’ve done much more and never stressed em to the point I got a sex change. The only way I’ve ever had any success was the Rodelization method.

Totally agree with you. I’ve been growing indoors for a couple years now. I know for a fact that my tents are not light tight. Specially around the zipper. I have not had any Hermie’s appear. I think in extreme cases it might make a diff but occasional bits of light I think do not matter much. What do plants outside do when the moon is full? Or lightning strikes?

For various reasons, over the many years/decades I’ve been growing this plant, I’ve at one time or another, and is some cases, many times, done everything ‘wrong’ you can do… lol Forgot to water? ,check,
Forgot to feed? check,
Forgot to turn lights on?..check
Forgot to turn lights off?.. check.
you name it and I’ve done it… to NO detriment!

in almost 40 yrs of indoor growing, there’ve been times that were beyond my control, and times it got ‘forgot’ for one reason or another. Everyone makes mistakes lol that’s why they put erasers on pencils!
But, lol did the plants do anything untoward? NOPE

I never thought about it too hard, but my outdoors grew under street lamps all night. No detriment.

Y’know. I was pondering this quite a bit lately.
These plants that we love are weeds. They don’t take a lot to get them to grow.
Now to get the to strive and create wonderful fruit? That takes some doing. But really, if you stick a seed in the ground at the right time with right temps. Keep it moist. It will grow.
I think the confusing part is that we, as growers, strive for OPTIMAL growing conditions. They will grow without but so much better with.
Same with lights. Is there OPTIMAL lighting? Of course there is. But these girls will grow with lesser than optimal. Just not as well

See my topic for proof of such claims.

Just have someone zip you in your tent. Let your eyes adjust for 10 mins. And just TRY to tell me its not darker than what it would be outside your home. Light pollution, the stars, the night sky, is brighter than it is in the tent for sure…

“oh but there’s a pinhole of light” lol, like its the laser beam of anti-budding action.

I wasn’t too worried about leaving the tent open, I don’t make a habit of it, but I agree with you, these plants aren’t so sensitive that the occasional goof up they take in stride…

In the case of special hybrids, any plant, not just Ganja, can and do develope into such sensitve little things… you can look at them hard, and they’ll hermie or worse, die! lol we’re breeding the hardiness out, and I want to try keeping that! I don’t want such sensitive plants like some orchids or other exotics for instance

To grow such sensitive plants for the sake of a bit more 'aroma/taste or buzz effect? Naw, I think I’ll stick to my usual. They do the job

The newer generations of folks seem to want a lot of different ‘flavors’ and aroma/taste etc lol I smoke for the buzz, and don’t give a damn if it doesn’t taste like bananas, apples, cherries, or wtf ever lol
That’s the young ones bringing that stuff into this, and a lot of the older gens are just following along. Look at all the flavored vape pens, etc F’that, I say lol
Gimme Ganja that tastes like Ganja and gets me high AF, I’m good to go lol
Hell lol it ain’t even gotta HAVE a ‘taste’, as long as it does what I want/need!!

lol ok, I’m off my rant. Going into town before getting back to work here. Must have some things for the house!

I dont mind some variety, taste, how it hits, etc. But you even have that in landrace strains  Just get a small variety of some old school strains and you’re all set

Oh I’m sure there’ll be a few thousands, after it’s all done. lol
Even after the bad weather the first part of last month damaged or killed a lot in the outdoor grow, there was still over 100 plants to chop and bring in ahead of the following bad weather and temp drops. Also lol don’t forget the 30 best in pots, I was able to bring into one of the spare bedrooms to finish out their cycle! They’re up next… later this week or early next week

That’s some hard workin right there. Gotta get those seeds out somehow, lol. Good stuff bro, really glad at least some of the ones you pollinated outside didn’t get destroyed.

I’m not stressing the one hour of extra light in the lifetime of the plant, more just surprised I didn’t think of it. All the issues I had with my timers on the last run didn’t seem to bother anything thankfully. That was possible hours of extra light, light going out and coming back on randomly, losing light for a few hours when they should have been on, etc.

Same. I don’t stress that at all cause like you said moonlight exists in nature and doesn’t bother them. It’s the random changes and extra full light when it shouldn’t get it, and more when it adds up to something.
