Hey OG fam,
Just wanted to put up some pics of the current strains that I’m currently growing indoors and stress testing them outdoors in the elements.
I’ve done my selections and usually run one strain a month but I had to kick things into overdrive due to having too many beans and wouldn’t be able to get to them all if I didn’t, plus I’d like to get more beans next year.
In this grow and quite possibly for the next few months I’ll be popping mostly full pack of each variety. I always keep 2-3 beans out of the pack in the freezer for preservation reasons. If I have multiple packs I will pop a full pack. I also culled the weakest and keep only the vigorous. I’ll be keeping up to 3 plants of each variety for flowering and then will be culling one more time during the 4th week so that there will only be 2 plants of each variety remaining with different leaning phenos if possible.
The Orange Julius and Blackened Oranges will be posted as soon as possible while the lights are on but I miss my chance today and they are currently in week 1-3 in tent #1 as it is in a perpetual grow.
Hey guys,
Thanks for tuning in OG Fam, I’ll update this post sometime tonight. @rooted, can’t say that I have tried BOO yet but I’m looking for that Cali-O that was passed around a long time ago. I remember the flavor well but 't wasn’t very strong at all so I’ve got high hopes for BOO. Are you running a grow diary for the Chem 4 x Boo? Of not don’t forget to let me know how they turned out.
I was really on the fence about getting chem x Boo since I have a lot of Lucky Dog beans and thought to my self that Gorilla Fumes x Boo would be a very interesting cross. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah ive harvested 2 of the chem4 x boo. I have 4 more going now but they arent really in my thread yet. Trying to bulk and clone them. Both the ones i harvested were really strong orange terps. Maybe the chem adds to it.
In my experience Chem genetics take a couple of runs to get them dialed in just like OG Kush. I’ve read a lot of good things about the cross ur growing and it looks like the Chem 4 in this cross let the mother shine through which I always look for in crosses since it’s easier to make a BX.
This run is strictly to make beans and I’ve taken clones of the keepers and plan on doing a proper run at a later time and will post that run as well. Good luck dialing them in.
So to update this grow, there are a few new lights going into the tent tomorrow. Rowena from Koray Horticulture Lighting was kind enough to send me 2 New LED Lights from the Canna Con Event at below cost to try out and send feedback. The total cost was what I spend on a overpriced pack of beans under $150 for both lights. I have been running the Koray SF-2000 for about 2 years now, a copy of the Spider Farmer 2000 series lights or they make the lights for Spider Farmer and decided to make a few tweaks and sell their own. The new thing on these lights are that you can daisy chain them with what looks like a telephone cable and control them with any Wi-Fi device and they added a dimmer switch. You will need to buy the hub separately to control the lights as I didn’t see them in the box. The hub looks like the Ai lights that I run on my reef tank.
I’ll update the photos with the new lights installed tomorrow.
Thanks @Shadey and @smokenhike,
The Blackened Orange was from 2019 and I was surprised that I got a hundred percent of the beans to pop. Useful’s gear is definitely on my top 10 breeders list for price & quality.
Here are a few shots of Blackened Orange and Orange Julius f2 from my perpetual grow tent and also the Male donor Grape Stomper bx3 that I’ll be using to pollinate the girls.
If you are going to be doing a selection based seed run, it is best to run the plant from clone. That gives a better representation of the genetics vs running a tap rooted plant. Seed plants viability in pots has a lot to do with orientation of the tap root.
Hey growhard,
Selections done are based on vigor and opposite phenos only as plant count and the sheer amount of seeds that I’m trying to get through would be overwhelming if I was to clone and select. I use to clone, dial in and select prior to this year but noticed that my bean collection just got bigger due to spending too much time on a few plants a year. I’m no breeder nor do I wish to be one but love to grow and share and with a bit of luck hopefully someone can find something special.
I’ve also noticed though 20+ years of growing is that selections done prior to f2 are negligible unless you are running numbers, preferably 100 beans or more and open pollination is preferred unless you going to work the line. The tap root orientation is new for me and I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for the info.
