I’ve been leaving them upside down to keep the condensation in the lid lol I can’t seam to get rid of it unless it goes into the fridge for a bit.
Yeah the agar is still releasing water vapour when you put the lid on, and as the petri dish is air tight to stop contamination, it has no where to go once the agar sets .
There is an optimal temp for pouring your agar into the dishes, can’t remember exactly, but the cooler it is, the less condensation it creates. So long as it pours OK at a cooler temp it will cut down the condensation.
I’m going to need your help soon. I’m getting ready to start some.
No problem man, I will help where I can
Made it back home things are moving a little slower then expected. Lost one of my agar plates to contam and the other 2 have almost no growth. Two of the shoe boxes have nothing on the surface after 3 weeks 1 has coverage and one has some pins.
Some of mine took around 4 to 5 weeks to start pinning up, what temps were they at while you were away
They look like they have enough moisture in the tubs, are those white patches for air flow. It’s better to have some higher up so hotter air can flow out and fresh air gets drawn in lower down passively. I have 2 of each cut in my tubs.
I just left the stickers on the tubs that’s all the white spots are. The lids are just sitting on without a tight seal. The room is about 25. How long did it take to grow on agar?
The agar took a week to start multiplying.
They need air to start pinning if the co2 builds up they won’t start until the environment is right. You need to fan each box with the lid twice a day minimum to get fresh oxygen in there.
I have holes cut and covered with microporous tape on mine. High up at the narrow ends and just above the mediums height on the long side.
My samples have been on the agar for about 3 weeks and they are still really tiny. Nice and white. They don’t look contaminated but not really doing much. I have been fanning them daily
I keep checking daily waiting for my first mushroom to pop out lol. I’m not seeing a lot of change in the surface conditions
Just keep misting on the water and fanning them, it will happen. Average time for mine was 4 to 5 weeks before I got any decent action.
Will do. Lol I get impatient when it’s the first time. Everything I read was saying that it will only take a couple weeks to colonize the shoeboxes and 5-7 days after that it should be happening lol. I thought I was doing something wrong
Temps can affect it, but mostly it’s the water and humidity that seem to switch it into fruiting mode, if my medium was too dry.
Now you have learn when to pick them, if they open their gills and drop spores, any mycelium the spores hit will die off and not produce any shrooms.
Is that something I should check for daily or should it be more often? I’m not sure how fast that happens
Depends on the environment, sometines it can take a day, sometimes a couple of hours if they grow fast. Don’t worry about it to much just catch them when you can. It helps with the second flush if there is little spore drop.
This is amazing to me
I really need to learn more about this
