Landrace Expansion & Trade

Iv heard of collie but online the only cross iv ever seen of it in over 10 years is called marley’s collie. If your ever curious on strai genetics “if thats what your emplying” google seedfinder and you can look up any strains genetics if its in the system

Now if you cross landraces together is that more of an modern heirloom strain then?

For example i have seeds from the last bag of reggie from mexico non bricked decent “above average commercial grade basically” i aquired 7rs ago. i grew it out 3yrs ago for shits and gig’s and boy the high was immediate but climbed a lil as it went i was strait retarded sitting on my bed for 15mins then boom high drops of mellows out and dissipates so wouldnt make sence to do a IBL with it

Did I miss Michoacan somehow? Who has it? Is that what Cheech and Chong were smoking? ( besides Maui wowie and a little Labrador lol)

Seems plausible… but does that explain the racy psychedelic highs of some of the Mexicans, such as Oaxacan, for example? Perhaps a hybrid of the Moroccan with something else?

they usually make hash out of their production
but Morocco was a principal route from Africa to Europe so there could have been strains from much farther south also

an heirloom is just any variety that’s been growing a long time and not out crossed. It’s either 25 or 50 years before it’s an heirloom. I can’t remember right now it’s too early in the morning, haha. It doesn’t matter how many genetics were mixed at the beginning as long as the outcome is crossed to itself many times. modern strains often have an extremely long family tree, and unfortunately not many people take the time to fix traits and create and IBL. the more mishmashed The Strain, the harder to make an IBL that has consistent plants with consistant traits. the Mexican bud you have now sounds a lot like the Mexican I had 30 years ago. 15 minutes soaring high, followed by a munchie attack and a nap. I missed out on a lot that life had to offer when I was smoking that s***. I recommend finding something else. you should be able to have that same effect last hours instead of minutes, with no physical come down at the end. If you are looking for a short but very good high, I have read of Ace seeds Honduras, which has a particular phenotype with a one-hour high, but then drops off to nothing with no burnout. If you’re looking to fix a trait like that it would be a better option for breeding in my opinion.

Plenty of freely traded and gifted seeds around here to start a search with great genetics off the bat. I have 20 strains in dirt right now…, “hello my name is Instg8ter and I have a problem”…,.
I have two giant Moroccans that decided they would show male traits early and often. Problem is the seed run is a bust but the BIG one is the Purple Bleeder ( 10 days from switch to 12/12) and I will probably run him out and collect pollen for x’s. I have Panama from Ace and MTF from Alaskan seed collective females they same age, anyone else interested?

Trade you some Moroccan pollen for some seeds.
I have a third little Goroka in flower. Could make a little batch of F1s and split em fifty/fifty with ya.

(Holy crap, speaking of. When was the last time I updated them?..)

You got it @DiggySoze he’s 10 days in flower I can put in the loft tent to quarantine, as fast as he’s podding I’m worried it will pollinate the whole neighborhood. You can school me on collecting. I have two rooted clones I will keep as backup.

Did you make any of that Mango Thai im trying to kick my purple more Sativa.

Seeds or pollen?
No pollen stored but the male is still alive and kicking. No female but still have a dozen or so seeds.

Love a few beans of that if you can spare, getting a nice Thai x gene pool built may want to take a few more Sativa leaning Since Thia landrace seems to be a unicorn and I’m not up for 100 day plants yet. I have two of the purple varieties and hear the mango is closer to Sativa

My royal purple Thai is a cross from Big Sur Holly to highland Thai

I just received a Big Sur Holy Cross from Coco genes. I can’t imagine I’d get to run it anytime soon.

Too long ago diggy. Too long. Need more Goroka porn!

That’s actually the same pot I smoked for the first time, and my whole first year of smoking probably, in '71. I was 16 and buying it in matchboxes for $5. I didn’t know shit at that age and remember it being called “mish-mecan” (like pecan).

It was classic Mexican brick weed, before all of the eradication efforts using herbicides. It was hard to tell what you were tasting, the papers or the pot.

I have a good many mystery Mexi seeds that I’m going to be starting soon. Not many details except how my friend got them. I’m hoping I can still track that guy down. An older guy gave them to my friend, who is mid 20’s and was working for dish network installing satellite TV dishes.

He was installing a dish at a house in town, and the guy with the seeds was only visiting. He gifted my friend the mexi seeds and some Panama Red supposedly. My friend started one of the mexi seeds and it was a beauty. I saw it early on but he lost it to freeze. He said it started smelling like skunk all around his property. He had trouble getting them to germinate and gave them to me.

The one I saw that he got growing was full on sativa. He had it in a small greenhouse up in the mountains and it just didn’t finish before the freeze.

@GMan. I hope you find some gems out of those seeds! It’s a shame your buddy lost them to the frost, but at least he was able to grow one to see what it looks like. Michoacan has been elusive thus far. I did see the offering by cannabiogen, but it’s not what I’m looking for. I want a true healthy line. How was the buzz of that stuff? At age 16, I’m imagining it was impressive. That Panama Red has perked my interest as well. That would be something if it was the real deal! Do you think Panama Red was a lowland version of Punto Rojo?

Here are the plants that made the cut into the jungle

Panama 1

Panama 2
Mystery plant 1

Matanuska Thunder Fuck - Alaskan seed collective. Fem

And the confirmed males

Beldia 1 purple bleeder ( putting in quarantine )

Beldia 2 and Mystery play 2

Mystery Plant 1 almost got chopped because of leaf damage defoliation but it bounced back with vigor and leads the pack. Possible suspects are WW, G-13, Black Pearl and x’s

I’m not the one to recite history of genetics, lol. I was there smoking anything I could get back then, but after the 70’s genetics, which you could almost count on one hand, nobody talked about genetics of hybrids on the streets.

I got a PR to pop and got it flowering but lost it while away for work and a roommate let it get infested at the end of the season. I chopped it as it was too far gone. It looked similar to pics I’ve seen of the PR but not sure it is a sativa.

It seems like I remember hearing that the Michoacan was basically eradicated through the the aerial spraying program by the govt. @deep_rob may have a better knowledge of the details since he and his family were in Texas in the 60’s and 70’s making seeds for the west coast. Seems like it was him that detailed all of that stuff I just tried to speak of, in his thread.

I don’t remember Michoacan being so great. It seems like the better Mexi came a little later.

If I can get any of these to grow and document them there could be some really good stuff in there. I have a half of an old film canister (standard seed storage device in the 70’s, lol).

The one I saw that he had growing was all sativa and bright lime green. I think I have a pic of it on the other computer. It was a pretty plant about 6 foot tall since he had it in a smaller pot.

I plan on popping some of them again this year. I’m finally set to keep clones and getting closer to dialing in my space downstairs where they’ll try and finish. Or I may take what I can get to germinate and put them on 12/12 almost from the start and try and finish some outside.

There just has to be some interesting stuff in them all. It’s sure worth the try.
