Landrace strains - general thread

I would love to find someone willing to do a preservation run with the Kurgan, even more so being that I have so few of them. And the two Bashkortostan F2 varietals I have as well, honestly. I’m all for preserving these genetics under any circumstances, and I’ll do just about anything to help the process along.

With things possibly changing in terms of legality, I feel it’s important to keep these unadulterated genetics available to us and future growers/breeders who may not have the ability/finances to procure them any other way. Hopefully certain fears never come to realization, but with big bank companies stepping in to the industry, I don’t see things getting easier for us home growers looking to grow something a bit different than all the hybrid jazz going around. Not to say those aren’t great, but they all came from something “pure”, and I’d hate to see that purity lost to time.

Its called secret Thai😁. I share pretty much everything I learn about different strains and where to find them, but this one is going to stay a mystery for a while. I have crossed it with old silversides oaxacan. Thinking I might find some keepers in the offspring.

first photo is Thai. Second and third is Sudan.

Thai.
last photo is Sudan. This one is just about finished. Resin glands are still clear, but are full size and numerous, though small. . Its pickable. Grown outdoors but finished it indoors the last week due to rainy weather. We had maybe 30 inches this summer. Decent mold resistance on buds, but not leaves, which got Septoria badly in most plants. No botrytis, but some plants had “dry rot”, which doesn’t spread rapidly. No PM or pests. Exposed to Aphids and spidermites. Neither liked them. I started these May 15th if I recall correctly, and flowering started by the end of June in the more abundant pheno. About 14 weeks flowering. Could go 16. Smelly plants reeking of pine, musk and Citrus. Recommended.

Ace seeds , which happens to be the same stock as cannobiogens ironically.

They use that Paki Variety in a lot of their hybrids. I’m quite confident they used it in their purple Malawi. Great breeder

There are a few different breeders using it all with pretty good results , I’m looking to make more beans of it in pure form and cross it to a few things like the bubba kush , 92og , shapeshifter, kushmints and possibly jungle cake.

An interesting article about Indian cannabis farmers in the Himalayas. Worth a look for the photography alone!

The kids playing with little bow and arrows made from cannabis stalks is amazing.

How does a guy know when seeds are mature enough to chop the plant?

@SkunkHunt101 You should be able to see some dark seeds start to show when they are close.

Need at least 6 weeks from pollination. 8 weeks would increase your # of viable seeds a bit!

Hope this helps!

I remembered reading your posts about Willy G’s a long time ago. I think I’m going to pick up a pack and give it a try!

I remember a terpinolene nose, though I don’t remember terpinolene in the test results. HSC said it smelles like dill pickles, but I got more pinesol. I havent seen Willy Gs Lebanese seeds around lately, I paid for a pack at like $120,l more than a couple years ago, I wouldn’t recommend paying that, but it was a fun unique strain to grow.

I think its around a 20:1 CBD to THC, I enjpyed the flower and crossed it to a thc kush male over 2 years agobut still havent grown out the seeds.

I managed to find some on chitown seeds site. But there weren’t too many places where I saw it.

I’m going to use it with BaOx (Hindu Kush x OTTO 2), so the fact that it’s already pretty much a hemp strain is good in this case. Afghans and Lebanese tend to go pretty well together anyway, so hopefully it’ll make a nice CBD hemp strain. I think your kush cross would turn out well. I’ll be doing pretty much the same thing, just with a hemp strain.

overdue bump.

for the guys that have grown some landrace indoors, how different are they as seedlings (or in general) from a modern indoor/poly?

from germination to say, day 30 of veg. on a practical level, do you do everything basically the same, in a shared space? or is it apples and oranges? I realize sweeping generalizations are a bit difficult here

I had a pepper plant do something goofy the other day, and it’s got me wondering abt this. TIA :ok_hand:

My limited experience is with Lebanese and I would say to be gentle, don’t use as much nutrients or as much lighting, go gradual on lighting changes etc. Light soil and light nutes…especially.
