Landrace strains - general thread

Hi noknees,
I have a perpetual tent that I run both landraces and modern stains in at the same time without much problems. The major difference imo is that if you run NLD and WLD in the same tent is the lighting schedule will need to be changed. To 11 1/2 to 11 hours and you could lose some yield but if yield and height isn’t a issue then it’s not very different.
The other thing that you will have to take into consideration is to run NLD landraces as clones in flower as this will save you some headaches down the road due to vigor.
Here is a picture of a perpetual grow about two years ago with NLD and WLD together

Good info there. Getting ready to pop my first landrace strains and didn’t even consider they may have different needs as to what I’ve been running.

I see landrace and assume that it’s wild grown plants.
But I got confused when I saw pics of “landraces” being cultivated on well laid out farms.
The plants where uniformly placed and could pass for clones. I’m thinking surely these genetics have been worked into a more useable form by the grower in order to meet his needs.
Of course I could be wrong.
But i’m thinking, where is the pics of wild gathering of the seeds that these plants came from showing them in their original location? And original structure?
I don’t know. But to me these plants looked well manipulated by man. Like i said, I could be wrong about this assumption. But some of the stuff don’t look very much like wild cannabis to me. Where can I get something like this at? I’m talking about the plant in the background? image

Landrace doesn’t mean “wild”, which is why if you look on sites that sell legit Landrace strains, they’ll tell you if they are “wild” or domesticated by the farmers that harvest them. Really just depends on what they’re being cultivated for, you’ll see some that look almost like modern hybrids because they’ve been selected for flower or you can see some wispy lanky plants that were picked out for resin/terps so they can make hash. Landrace strains are indigenous (or at least mostly indigenous) to the regions they hail from. Of course, sometimes a Landrace from one place was moved elsewhere years ago (sometimes over a century) and is now a Landrace associated with its new home because it has evolved/adapted over time. If you want a “wild” Landrace, then just go on IG and check out Trident seeds, Landrace Mafia, irrazinig, Landrace team, etc. there’s always plenty of pics and descriptions about the plants. Especially with the ones I mentioned before Landrace team, they’ll generally post the stock they’ll be harvesting seeds from.

On a separate note though, I don’t know if I’d really take the trouble dealing with a “wild” type. They’d probably be good for a long term hybrid project but working them as is would probably be less fruitful than you’d expect. Maybe consider a landraces that is domesticated but also has “wild” type phenos, Ukhrul is a good example of that. Higher chance to find something in the middle.

Great answer brother. Thank you for helping me understand my misinterpretation of the definition of landrace.

Of course, no problem! I actually have some Ukhrul btw if you wanna give ‘em a pop.

Will shoot you a message.

Very cool. That foxtailing is insane.

I had indicas and even autoflowers sprout from seeds that I got from brick weed. Clearly, foreign genetics have found their way into Latin America. That sucks.

Nice!

I grew out a Cebecca de Negro male in 2020 and his progeny are epic
I always wanted to try his sisters, but lost those original F2 seeds in the fire.

How was she?

Good pot. Strong genetics. Flower time was 10-14 weeks with my favorite being the late one. This is likely the old Brazilian hybrid heirloom and not the landrace, which may now be in OGers hands. @Panamajock is the Guniea pig growing this new Accession on the Central American landrace thread.

Peace

I was stationed in Korea, and have been to the DMZ. It’s fucking CREEPY. We did a re-enlistment ceremony at the Bridge of No Return. We were merely 30 or so meters from the border, watching the guard frantically call his higher up to ask what we were doing there. Because the level of force there is so closely regulated, we had to leave our weapons and gear back at Camp Garry Owen.
Why hardline communist countries like N. Korea and Cuba even exist still is a mystery. The USSR collapsed and even China (authoritarian as hell) isn’t a purely communist state.

New heirloom strains will emerge from the overt homogenization going on right now. Ten years from now, I’d wager April 20 will be considered a holiday like Halloween, if it’s not recognized as a federal holiday. The ability to grow in the open will lend itself to countless breeding projects. There are also a number of IBLs people have been growing in secret for decades that will finally come to light once cannabis is legal.
The next few years are going to be interesting.

I’m gonna read this whole thread, I have a dream to get my hands on a bunch of African, Central American and Asian land races, get a nice healthy soil bed and drop them in and let ‘em breed. I’ve been wanting to do it since I was 20 so that by the time I was 70 it would be adjusted perfectly to the environment here in Hawai’i. I wanted to call it the cacophony because of how loud it would be :rofl::rofl: maybe the only thing I would do is dust it with an outside pollen sometimes or drop a new female in from a modern strain.

Sudan.
@Sodapop sounds like a great idea mixing everything up. I bet it would be killer.

It might need some guidance but it’s like survival of the fittest in a 15 square foot area outdoors and by the end of the experiment you could just pick up some seeds and start tailoring it

Mother Nature will provide all the guidance you need. Just start with great genetics and you will end with great genetics.
