You can move a few fan leaves around to get more light to those lower nodes. There’s a thread titled “auto training 101” where I was documenting my early LST efforts on my plant. I started before day 20 but the principle is still the same.

Here’s the link. Auto Training 101 - #90 by Abbbian

I added a bunch of pictures of my early training efforts at the very end of that thread.

Nodes inside the black box

Even if you have to cut off a few fan leaves, if light gets to these nodes they will take off and form new branches.

Nodes are where you see new growth, new leaf sets, new branches, new bud sites. Give them light as much as possible.

I bent this one almost 90 degrees late in veg, had been shooting straight up, you can see tiny little flowers even along the thick main stem.

Topping, essentially, you cut the top of the plant off, which causes it to redistribute growth hormones to the other branches and nodes. The same thing can be done by LST taking your top below the level of your canopy, like I did.

So now even on this peripheral branch the nodes flowered.

? to do with the trimmed leaves

Compost them! Several different ways to compost. Vermicompost is my favorite.

Otherwise they’re just leaves… I’d say bin them, but even though I’m 100% legal here I still don’t really want to throw cuttings out with my trash, so I store them in a paper bag and burn them. Maybe paranoid, maybe not.

Hi @Bpsteff5052, is this going to be a bonsai? Could you tell us a bit more about this “spongy” cylinder? Thanks.

T:he spongy is a water pipe insulation material. Comes in 4 ft sections I use them to start seeds .

thanks 4 the help

What to do about the smell
What will cover it up

Carbon filter or ozone generator ( but has its own, unmistakeable, smell, like before a thunderstorm…)!

I have found I have no need to cover it so far approaching week 6 of flower. Depends on how much canopy you have, I suppose.

I have my tents in the basement. Tent SMELLs, but the basement only a light generic plant smell. Upstairs and outside? No smell.

But I will say, if I smell ionized air I know you’re trying to hide something. But that’s me. And if I didn’t know you personally, I’d just assume you were covering up smoke smells. Bonus points if you have a cat- who doesn’t want to cover up liter box smell?

My maiden voyage did not fair well.

However I did start several plants and took them outdoors.
Of the 16 plants which I neglected and stressed to the max, I was able to salvage three plants that went into the backyard. Of the three plants I found two females that I managed to flower and then harvest, with the help of my mentor. I’m not sure what they are but I did harvest 3 one gallon bags of bud’s.

My next grow I will do better with the plants. here are a few select pictures of my first ever successful grow and harvest experience.
This is my formal update for any interested watchers.
