somewhere in my reading during the past 6 months I saw something about some males seem to produce more/mostly females/male than the usual 50/50 or 60/40. I’m talking like 80-90% or better.
Maybe it was the sources in this post:
If you make the cross, let me know the results.
Any updated scientific revelations on this front? I found a male in fem seed. Freakshow pollenated by a reversed multileaf. When a freakshow is used as the mom in a regular cross, all the F1 males look slightly freaky. So did this male from fem seed. Normally I’d just get rid of it, but it happens to grow WAY better and faster than its siblings. Like, I went to top everyone, and he already had side branches. Just super vigorous. Anyway, he’s shelved for now until I decide if hes worth doing anything with.
not sure it has been posted but there is a prime example of the genetic lottery throwing a male out of otherwise , all female seed.
Chunkypigs from icmag found a small number of S1 seeds in samples of the original OGKB that was grown and dropped by OGkushbush himself at the weed dispensary chunky bought the samples from. Chunky dubbed his male “cookieboi” and he passes on dominant OGKB traits.
This male produces stable offspring as every strain I have ran of his that uses that male has been solid with the exception of Pimp Juice but it was a stacked polyhybrid with GG4 in it so might have been expected in that one… damn good flower though, I loved the PJ
I have made many F2’s, F3’s and crosses with plants originating from chunky’s collection that the cookieboi male was the father in … rock solid.
The female he entered the ic420 cup in amsterdam with in 2015(?) was one of those seeds found in the OGKB dispensary bud and he won 1st place indica and on top of that he won best in show. He dubbed the cut OGKB 2.0. Again, she is a solid stable female and passes her traits very well in crosses without any intersex traits showing up.
I don’t know much about the science of it all but I am a believer that chunky’s “cookieboi” male is indeed a “super male” LOL
I wish he was still breeding and dropping the OGKB fire but at least I managed to score lots of his beans when he did drop them
I forget the name, purple urkle i think(?) by charli came from feminized breeding but up to 5% were males. It was first marketed as fems, but later sold as regulars with a very high ratio of females.
Theres a thread on ic where charli goes over how it all happened, interesting read.
Nice. Its good to know its been done and wasn’t a disaster. I wonder if a Y showed up somehow then. Maybe I’ll get a sex test done on it. It would be pretty cool if he was ok, because my fem cross turned out better then my reg cross(which I’m using to pollinate with this round). Maybe I’ll let him hit the clones next(if they root) and have 2 lines to explore.
