They sell Malted Barley at Black Swallow… excellent stuff. You can get a $15 coffee grinder from
Crappy Tire. Works great for grinding them up. Keep them in the freezer to preserve the enzymes and keep them from heating up too much when you grind them :+1:t3:

She finally got too big and I had to stake her down had one small limb almost do a fold over before I caught it.My hands are so sticky from bumping into buds it feels like I’m rolling balls of rubber cement inbetween my fingers. There’s tricomes coming out everywhere.

@Tinytuttle - thanks for the info. i just googled 2 vs 6 row and this is what i found so it makes ttly sense what u rec’d
In general, 6-row malted barley has more protein and enzyme content than 2- row malted barley, is thinner than two-row malt and contains less carbohydrate.

spsdly brewers use 2 row because its lower enzyme content, lower protein, greater starch content, and thinner husk make it better suited to higher extract. … Arguably gives beer a mellower flavor than six-row

i guess thats why its more readily available

Hi folks, a silly question here, even when I don’t see any visible worms in my soil, would it still be a good idea to add some barley to the soil? Thanks! And thank you @Tinytuttle !!

Yup 6-row is more commonly used for large domestic brands - bud coors etc because they use a higher percentage of adjuncts like rice or corn which need higher enzyme content. Craft brewers use 2-row more as it has a nicer flavor and they dont usually need the extra enzymes.

I read about the 6 row and I was in an experiment phase to test so I was cautious and opted out for the 2 row and I can say this you can use up to cups every week no sweat in a good outdoor situation the worms I have now are off the chain a handful of dirt has at least half a dozen fat worms chilling in it and my dirt smells like my hunting earth scent wafers nice and clean the mycelium is nice and throughout the medium and my plants are taking it very well at the moment no burn or calmag crap problems and I can see growth each day.For my situation I stuck with the two row try the 6 row and see what it does fuck it what do you have to lose. The 2 row is kind of easier to get I noticed around where I live.Yes a lot cheaper too.

You could get crazy and get malted corn, wheat, or rye. I bet a blend would be sweet, like the Gnarly Barley Build-a-Soil has.

Did you see the post about the guy saying it smelled like bleach?Maybe he confused it with an ammonia smell that one I could see being more normal.I remember chatting about Jason Silva doing that mix with some of coots soil mix.I just seen a thing with coot and this lady. She says some kelp holds heavy metals.Where can you get kelp no metals?Totally off topic but I had to ask before I forgot.

Old chicken house turned into a worm farm and we were feeding it laying mash. For about 2 months till I overfed and the soil got too hot and killed them and soured. I dunno if you could with malted barley.

this doesnt seem like too bad of a price and you could just crush it in a food processor right?

$14.50 for 5 lbs

Yes, a coffee bean grinder works great for that. In fact it’s best to get un-milled grain and mill it right before use, enzymes degrade once you crush the seeds.

I have a large sack of Craft Blend, but I want to stock up on a few things like malted barley and some other things. Maybe some alfalfa meal, kelp etc as well.

I like the sprouted popcorn tea idea. Fresh enzymes instead of the ones that survived the drying process seems the better idea to me.
