i encountered the same issue lost 100 or so cuts I was making for a friends outdoor grow they rooted fine in fact they had began to get new growth the day I took them out they just faded away since then I have made sure to ease them into the world so to speak
This might be the most ridiculous post on OG history but i’m still going through with it.
The micro-grow experiment has been in progress even though i haven’t been updating at all. Funny story - My old man decided to visit me for a few days ( I’m usually by myself & the plants keep me company). He would hv definitely freaked out if he saw what i was up-to. Had to clear out all the equipment and supplies and make sure no trace of the operation was visible. All the plantlets in veg & flower were temporarily shifted to a closet at home which was almost inaccessible. They spent 4 days in complete darkness.
Triggered flowering in all of them. All females. In fact i think the plants looked better afterwards since i was not constantly feeding & watering them…lol.
Operation was a success. 4 days he was at my place & not a clue as to what i had been busy with. Felt like a Grow Ninja after i was able to successfully restore the experiment before he visited. Advantage of Micro-Setup.
Now lets get on with the ridiculous post.
I recently chopped a male plant that had been growing in my setup. It was almost 4 months old in 16oz bottles. Since it was a male plant, had no hesitation in culling it. But i still dint have the heart to throw it in the trash, since it was after all a companion for the past few months, so i just kept it aside & forgot about it.
I again find myself in position with nothing to smoke - which sucks.
I noticed my dead drying male plants & thought lets sample some homegrown leaf. Not my proudest moment (Pics for Reference)
I really dint have any expectations from it since it was a male plant which was in veg for 4 months.
Smoked a joint of it. Burnt very quick - 6 big puffs. Harsh green tasting smoke but its effect was extraordinary…!!
Smoke report: (Anbu’s Gift - Male Leaf) First 5 min’s i dint feel anything. Then it slowly started escalating.
Clean - Crystal Clear - Energetic - Euphoric and it was getting stronger. Every 5 min’s i was twice as high as before. At 20 mins it peaked. Amazing sativa functional high. Had an evil grin all along. For the past 2 yrs, i hv been getting only Indicas to smoke - but i’m a sativa lover all the way.
Felt like a hyper-active-monkey to say the least. Imagine you have just jumped off a plane,
and but instead of free falling you are in control and can choose the direction in which would like to go at the same speed. What a Rush…!!
At 1.5 hour, it slowly started fading away and the descent was smooth. Even though it was a short trip, it encapsulated everything i love about smoking - especially the sativa effects. Even after the comedown, just the memory of that experience earlier was enough to keep me happy for the rest of the day.
I humbly bowed down with full reverence to the skeletal remains of the plant from which the leaf was taken and to all the other plants in my grow for that experience.
At this point, if i have a limitless supply of such leaf - i would be more than happy smoking only that for the rest of my life.
Before chopping it off, i took 2 cuttings. Glad i did coz i dint know the value of that plant till i tried smoking its leaves which was Phenomenal…!!
This pic was taken 6 days after cutting. The one on the right has rooted and being extremely well taken care off, definitely want to use it in my 1st breeding project.
I have been unsuccessful in growing anything resembling bud because the bagseeds are mostly land-race outdoor strains. I have one plantlet that was put into flower as soon as it was rooted in Feb and still growing only stem & leaves (which i intend to sample also soon). But at-least i know i have the patience to try out longer flowering strains for the future.
I’m currently trying to dial-in my Super Silver Haze Reg (MSNL) for my micro-setup.
Seed sprouted on March 8th - Into Flower on April 23rd at 22cms - stopped stretching at 42cms - Currently in 5th week of Flower. Should be done by July 1st week.
Being fed Dr Bud’s Recommended Nutes - Schultz 10-15-10 / Super-thrive / Fish Fertilizer every 2 days.
You realize the value of good genetics only when you work with them.
Took multiple cuttings before it went into flower & the clones are currently vegging.
I din’t even bother to update this thread coz of all the couch-lock indy i have been smoking. But this sativa leaf smoke just gives me the energy to do anything and everything i set my mind to.
Will try to breed Anbu’s gift with SSH as atleast it seems to like my indoor setup.
All of the leaf is now gone - but the genetics survive.
I also had 2 Anbu’s gift - female clones in flower. One will continue its journey (but im doubtful of its yield) and the other was chopped for its leaves. Stripping off the leaves left my fingers extra sticky even more compared to the male plant.
If the male leaves are so potent, i’m kinda terrified & excited at what the SSH buds will be like.
Wish me luck in my first home grown harvest & future breeding projects.
Both my clones made it. You can see the difference between the quality of cuts taken.
The force is STRONG in this one.
Found a pic of Anbu’s gift - male when it was alive & another cloning attempt. (8th April)
Small cutting coated with rooting hormone - placed into coco. Set inside the dome - plastic container with lil bit of water at the bottom - straight into 12/12 to initiate rooting. Idea was to have a mini male plantlet which would produce enough pollen for a rudimentary breeding project. Rooted perfectly fine after about 10 days - but no growth guessing due to the small container size.
The plan was to keeping the cutting in the same setup, when pollen would drop - the water in the bottom of the container would neutralize it without worrying about pollinating the other female plants in flower.
The male clone was transplanted into 16oz bottle about 2 weeks back and is showing very good growth - but is now outside the dome and chances of pollinating 4 female clones of SSH which are in different weeks of flowering. Oldest SSH clone is now in week 6 of flower.
Wouldn’t want it to pollinate all the buds.
Best case scenario: A controlled pollination of few buds from the bottom for few seeds and leaving the top buds unfertilized for smoke.
Worst case scenario: All females get pollinated - no sinsemella buds but shitload of SSH x Anbu’s Gift (Anbu’s Haze) seeds.
Pic was taken today morning - and shows few upcoming male flowers. Any guesses as to how many more days or weeks before the male flowers release pollen. Going to be keeping a close watch on the male flowers to attempt a successful best case scenario.
Any suggestions for my breeding project would be appreciated.
Id say maybe 5-7 days before it starts putting out pollen but I’m pretty new to working with males!
5-7 days is a bit sooner than expected. Guess i have be extra cautious over the next few days. Thanks for the advice.
Spot on.!! few of the small male flowers opened up today morning. Tiniest amount of pollen gathered in the tip of my finger when i tried to flick it & then the male flower fell off completely from the plant. Rubbed the gathered pollen on my SSH female lower bud which is in week 2 of flower & on my Anbu’s gift female as well.
Hope all goes well in my first home made cross…!!
I’m psychic, brb going to buy a lottery ticket. Glad it worked for ya, hopefully you get tons of seeds!
Lets play an interesting game. In my quest for growing organic buds, i have the following resources handy, but I’m sure I’m not using them efficiently yet. These are partial ingredients listed from True Living Organics by Rev. Some amendments are missing bcoz they were either too expensive or not available locally.
- Potting soil
- Perlite
- Cheap coco bricks
From the left
- Enriched Vermicompost
- Cottonseed meal ( read that it helps lower the Ph of the soil, my soil Ph reads around upper 7.5 with my cheap 3 in 1 Light - Moisture - PH testing probe)
- Fish fertilizer ( in bottle )
- Neem Oil (in bottle)
- Sea Gold - Water soluble kelp extract
- Liquid seaweed extract (in bottle)
- Alfalfa meal
- Oyster shell powder
- Root-care - Mycrohazzia
- Unsteamed Bone meal manure ( Steamed bone also available but not included in pic)
- Epsom Salt
- Dolomite Limestone Powder
- Crushed Rock Phosphate
- Screen Gypsum
Have been mixing these ingredients according to the TLO recommended guidelines.
The first time i tried the TLO mix, after 3 weeks of composting the soil was crawling full of bugs (either beneficial or pathogenic) - but it did say in the book you will need to get rid of any phobias of bugs as they are important part of the soil web.
You can use all of the ingredients or minimal amount of the above listed items for your custom soil recipe.
Just want to use those items successfully as they currently sitting & gathering dust.
Goal is to grow with only water and maybe occasional Aereated Compost Tea (Have an air pump & stone handy)
Any suggestions to use the above items would be appreciated.
If they are any ingredients missing, which would be considered essential to make the above items work - it would be sourced immediately, provided it is not too expensive and available easily.
When i first started reading on OG, somehow i always gave your workshop thread a miss - maybe i was just not ready for all that awesomeness which was inside. It has now become one of my all time fav threads to read from start to finish multiple times.
Your experience with organic growing would be highly appreciated. Thanks
Everything you have there is good, use according to the directions and you should be okay. I’m not really a fan of cottonseed meal in organic gardening, as cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed crops. I would swap it out for neem meal instead.
Vermicompost is true gold. Start your own worm bin is the best advice I can give any new organic gardener. Vermicompost is like a panacea for plants, I use it for everything.
Vegging plants love fish fertilizer, use according to the label. If you dont want to use the liquid kelp, consider adding kelp meal to your recipe at about 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil.
You have the neem oil, it works best as a preventive. I suggest spraying weekly until you flip to flower.
That sounds golden.
Unfortunately most items do not have any instructions on them. I guess the manufactures are like ’ hey if you are buying it, you probably know how to use it’
The one with instructions like fish fertilizer & liquid seaweed extract when used according to instruction burnt my plants like hell. Currently being applied at 1/4th strength with beneficial results.
Dint know that about cotton. Thanks for the advice about swapping it with neem meal.
Will have to get that printed & put up in my grow rooms…!!
Ok there is an ideas for adding improvements to my setup. It’s available really cheap like 60 rupees (0.79 USD) for 1Kilo.
Bought it initially since some of the bagseed i had been practicing with had a severe white flies infestation. Current SSH seems to have a good resistance against them. Not one to be seen. Will keep in mind about using it weekly in veg.
Thank you for the wisdom shared…!!
I have been reading up on malawi style cob cures on icmag, and i see that you have tried the method and even got your Juanita La Grimosa (which you state is your most medicinal strain) tested to see if what changes happen during the cure. An increase from 21% to 27% THC in the test is quite astonishing.
Will be harvesting my SSH soon… wanted to try cobbing up maybe a few buds and give it a go. Have received my vacuum sealer and just bought a corn cob as well.
Could you share your personal experience on that particular style of curing & do you still try it out on any of your harvests…??
Thanks
It was fun, but I haven’t really done it again. It is definitely worth giving a try and do as Tangwena does and chew some. It was mind blowing. Went to the roller rink and the lights were extra colorful that night.
To avoid the whole nervousness about when the male plants will release pollen and ruin the sinsemella crop if kept in the same setup as the flowering females - decided to setup a space dedicated for males only.
Scrap PC case modified with two 9-watt warm white leds. One side is kept open for passive ventilation. Kept the dome on to keep temps in check. Manually turned on/ off for light & dark phase 12/12
Got G-13 Haze freebies along with my SSH order from MSNL. Sprouted 1 which turned out to be a male. Clone taken and put into PC setup about 2 weeks back. Pollen sacks developing nicely.
Next cross: SSH x G-13 Haze = Supreme G-13
Found this on Soma’s book on Organic Marijuana. Like the part about heavy sativa influence to all the strains it has been hybridized with.
Proud to present my first harvest of home grown SSH at day 70 of flower.
Huge appreciation towards all the members here at OG for guidance, support & encouragement. Could’nt hv done it without you all.
