Got a swarm in my backyard. I kept bees for a decade, but haven’t had any since 2020 when I lost my last three hives.
Wish I had time to catch these, but then again, I don’t need more projects….

Not much to update. Here’s a picture of the 31 cups that doesn’t really show anything:
Except for four that didn’t germinate or didn’t make it, they all pretty much look as you might expect:

I got 87%, but I wish it had been over 90. I’m still way over what I can probably handle anyway…
Edit: I forgot to mention the GG4 s1 x GG4 RIL that I ripped the head off of trying to remove a helmet. But I had three of those.

cuttings from 8 of the 9 mothers I currently have. Gonna try vermiculite again, since I was pretty successful with it the first time.
Speaking of mothers, I’m having an issue with my Bandaid Haze #7.
Seemed like a simple magnesium deficiency to me, but I’ve done three epsom foliar sprays over the last week and a half, added a small amount to the soil, and added calimagic (cal/mag) to my regular watering.
There’s also that weird variegation happening on 4 or 5 leaves.
It’s in reamended super soil and other than the epsom, it’s in the exact same conditions as my other mothers. They’re all doing great with no issues. I thought maybe it was pH, but I’ve been checking it and keeping it at 6.5-6.7.
Any ideas?

I’m not sure what nutrient exactly, but my guess would be micronutrient excess. I see the exact same thing happen when I use too much of my “cal-mag” supplement, which I don’t actually use for the cal-mag but for the “full array of micros including iron, sulfur, manganese and boron,” or too much kelp. Not that I know how much the right amount to use is, but I’ve concluded that certain amounts are too much by increasing it and seeing those exact symptoms develop, and/or dead plants.

I potted up the first batch of solo cups today; the GG4 crosses:
I used cheap 3 gallon grow bags because I’m not gonna have near enough pots. I used up all my soil too, so I’m going to mix up a new batch tomorrow.

I should have boxed up that swarm while they were there on the tree, I just didn’t want more work.
Turns out, they moved into the wall and ceiling of my basement. What could have taken 30 minutes to catch them became several hours of cumbersome work and I wasn’t even able to get them all. Had to leave a bunch in an area I could not access between brick and a rim joist.
I had no idea if I got the queen or not, but I stuck what I could gather in a box:
After letting them settle for about a month and still seeing activity every day, I suspected I had the queen. I confirmed that today:
