Week 0:
Lessons Learned:
Root zone near 70. 74 leads to damp off.
Rip off a bit of the plug bottom to create a bowl for dripping water into.
Don’t be cheap- if you have 2 trays, run 2 heat mats
—adding here as I make more mistakes------
Small scale pheno hunt.
Purple (Pakastani) Chitral Kush x Limon Y Pinya #3 (Cinderella 99, Love Potion #1 cross)
The first 8 rows are from 8 different seeds.
Rows 9&10 are Big Devil and Pakistani Valley that I have been running for a while now.
Took cuts on APR 02 2021. Rapid Rooter plugs upside down. I do not use clear domes, as I have lost hundreds of cuts to dampening off.
Temp - around 70F
RH - around 70%
Open trays are sitting in a shallow bath with heat mats under the trays.
Plugs are used upside down, so they get wedged in the trays and do not contact the water in the trays.
Plugs get hit with about 5ml of spring water every day.
Cuts are misted multiple times a day.
Straight water, diluted STS 217 and 244 rotated in. Preventative insect and anti fungal.
I have some Dr Zymes, but it is new and I have not tried it on young plants.
Some are flopped over, but most are standing straight up.
SNS 217 & 244…Thank you misterbee!!!
STS spray will be a couple of months from now…
Soil will be FF Happy frog and Ocean forest.
Heating pad has a thermostat. I’ve roasted more than one tray without supervision.
Week one done.
Leaves yellowing as they eat themselves.
I found roots on one plug, and I lost one cutting to the damping off.
Lesson learned - I bumped up the temp to 74F a couple of days before the cutting died.
Dropped temp to target the root zone at 69F now.
Funny thing is that the plug with roots has a scraggly bit of a cutting.
Only misting twice a day now.
Week 2 -trucking right along.
Lights: 1 T5HO and 2 x AgroLED T5 “replacement” bulbs - 1 foot from plants.
There is a lot of roots happening, so watering style has to change.
Previously I had been pulling the plugs and watering with a dropper from the bottom.
Now that there’s roots, I don’t want to be jamming them back into the trays and snapping the new shoots.
I am using a dropper from the top and giving them 8-12 ml of spring water because I have been too lazy to make up a jug of weak root fertilized water.
We are probably going into cups in the next 3 days.
Looking good…no, GREAT!!! Wishing you continued success. Making any seeds, or it just a “stash run”? Either way, I’m sure the Black Pineapple will be a special treat. Do SS/BW…mister
I do plan on a seed run with this cross., but that’s gonna be sometime in the fall.
This chucking thing takes a lot of time…
The cuttings represent the 8 seeds cracked female.
I’ll be keeping 2 of each column; one to flower, one to mother
The plan is to find the best 2 of the 8 phenos and work the 2 plants.
I ran these 8 once already, but due to a failing ph meter I was running way to low ph, had nutrient lockout, and was seeing male parts, so I had to pull before final bulk out.
I need to verify if the cross is stable after seeing the herm.
Still wound up with some nice smoke, kinda too speedy tho.
Given 1/4 C99 and 1/2 kush I expect a bright high followed by relaxed and thoughtful wind down. The stuff from the first run is pretty close to that.
4/20-21 update
Dropped into 18 oz cups
Weak weak rooting nutes. 6.5 ph.
FF Happy Frog soil.
Light: KIND LED XL750 Red:03 Blue:30 White:30 18/6 24 inches above canopy.
—gotta be gentle after being under floros.
-----The IR is tied to the Reds on this light and can FRY young plants.
No root porn provided, but some of the plugs were downright impressive when I pulled them from the trays.
Selective genetics is brutal. Survival of the fittest. In 2 weeks 90% are going to compost due to prohibition.
-Always a sad face…
I did not expect so many successful clone tho. I plan for 50% success- Wound up with 90%.
This is my first run that I’ve had total control of Temp and RH environment and it really made a difference.
Air RH near 70%, root zone near 70F.
Week 3 - The Cull
Always a drag; I’ll be pitching more than I keep.
Of these half will stay in the tent to finish; the other half goes back under floros to stall and keep as mothers.
Looking for the best development at the top and bottom.
Root development and how well they do going from T5 floro the LEDs on the Kind.
Also looking for the tightest internodes.
Feeding General Organics Go Box nutes at about 25%.
Kind XL750 running on auto after 4 days warming the plants up to the powerful LEDs.
Week 4 - Added 2 small oscillating fans in the corners.
Probably going to top them in the next couple of days.
Temp: Low 70s RH: Mid 70s
Feeding: myscos only @6.5 PH
Light - Red:60 Blue:100 White:100
All are welcome8^)
If you fart loud, I’ll applaud 'cause I’m still 7 years old when it comes to bathroom jokes.
Constructive criticisms are also welcome. Like the fact that I was too lazy to turn down the red & blue for the last picture.
Nice journal, will be a good watch.
What are you using for your temp and rh control?
Congrats on having control over both!!
I believe environment is the most important part of growing, takes president over nutes and light
