LouDog's LED Lounge

Hey there OG, I think it’s finally time to set up a homebase here at OG outside of the Beans 4 St. Jude thread. If unfamiliar, check it out, we raise donations for St. Jude and give free seeds to anyone that donates directly to the charity.

This is LouDog’s LED Lounge. We run a 10’ x 9’, 4 lighter under LEDs with extra veg spaces and occasionally the most high tech HID bare bulb vert donuts (/s). Genetics and space design is the name of the game here. Let me know any questions and I’ll try to answer to the best of my abilities…

We’re testing 4 different LED brands in flower in the same space. We’ll generally have at least one cut of something tried and true under each light to get a good comparison. There’s a couple threads over on IC Mag that go into the vert room and its conversion to the LED room, if you’re curious for some more background info…

Lights getting the test:

  • Growers Choice ROI E-720
  • Spectrum King 680W
  • Grow Light Science ProGrow 850
  • Total Grow MH Lumyre 720
  • We’ll also have a Mars Hydro FC-E 8000 running veg in a 5’ x 5’ space…

Genetics are ever changing, and we’re always popping something in the background. You can find some pics and organized genetic info at www.LDGenetics.com

We built some classic custom tables with HDPE pond liner and drainage to a sump, automated irrigation, 24kw mini split that’s oversized (it was originally sized for 5kw of HID lighting), circ fans in each corner, and intake/exhaust on some motorized dampers that allow us to run sealed with CO2 during the day, and dump humidity at night with standard intake/exhaust.

We run Jacks (salts) with some additives and an occasional root bene tea. I’ll get into our recipe later on and irrigation strategies…

That should get us started for now and we’ll add some specs and construction pics for all those interested as we proceed…

In the meantime, some flower shots to kick this thing off…

Thanks guys, let’s keep this thing rolling with some room specs…

10’ x 9’ space, framed with foam board insulation under and behind studs to prevent condensation and in case we flood the room. Everything covered with reflectrix.

We created a mini door with a header above the door for intake/exhaust fans. This allows us to run ducting in between floor joists and out the door, without having to cut through the block walls. Intake runs into two registers from behind the wall and into the room, with the exhaust on the other side of the room, creating a perpetual wind tunnel. 24kw mini split recessed into the wall, adjacent to the intake fans you see in pic 5.

We’ll skip the bare bulb vert stuff, since this is the LED Lounge. But if you’re curious and want to run the old school, cheap muffin fans, bare bulbs, rock and roll a 4kw space for a couple hundred in lights… We were running 10 gal coco plants and hitting 1.25-1.5lb/plant under 4kw with 5 plants…

Onto the tables… Simple 2x4 framing, with OSB. Pond liner. I like to walk on my tables if needed. We have super low ceiling heights in this room (6.5’-7’ depending on location), so the idea was to keep the tables as low as possible and still allow gravity drain to pvc then a sump.

We elevate the plants at the low end of the table so they’re not sitting in runoff with wet feet using egg crate lighting covers and some table feet that prevent the plastic from damaging the liner.

Trellis frame using pvc and a little shitty 35pt dehui. We had to put it on a timer to cycle on and off because we went through about 4 of them, with them burning themselves out running 24/7… Smooth sailing since, it turns off for 15 minutes every couple hours, and we need to upgrade to a digital timer so there’s less downtime…

Onto irrigation, feed, more air handling, electrical, and most importantly flowers and hash…

Onto electrical and irrigation…

For electrical, we ran an 8 light controller with 240v/50A circuit, as well as a few other 120v/20A circuits. One for room power (fans/dehui), another for pumps outside the room, and a third for the mini split. Pic shows the old setup with HID ballasts. Extra 120 for timers/pumps down low.

Nothing fancy, just cheap receptacles mounted on OSB, 2x4’s, or to the studs… You can never have too many outlets.

For irrigation, we have a couple 100gal animal watering troughs. We use one to fill with RO on a float, and another for the main feed res. There’s a few other 30gal brutes for veg spaces and RO.

The main feed for the 10x9 uses a submersible pump (cheap and mobile) attached to garden hose fixtures. Through a micron filter and into a pvc manifold with a few valves allowing for hose connection hand watering, drip irrigation, and a recirculating mixer back to the res. A 1/2" pvc mainline circles the grow space around head height, with drop downs connecting to 1/2" mainline tubing then 1/4" feed lines using 1/2 - 1gph drippers. Individual shut off valves on each line.

For automation, we just daisy chain two timers. One needs the ability to set hours, and the other has minutes/seconds. So, we’ll set the minute second timer to 1min30sec on and 28min30sec off (or whatever duration needed to hit the proper irrigation event). We’ll set the hour timer on based on how many feeds we want to give a day. So, for example, on from 1-2, 3-4, and 6-7. This gives 3 hours of feeds, with two feedings per hour, so 6 feeds per day. Totally adjustable and doesn’t need an irrigation controller.

irrigation main res

For feed, we run Jacks and some additives including calmag supplement, silica, micros, MKP, and drip clean. Latest feed under LEDs is 2.6-3.0EC generally. We cut N later in flower by dropping the calnit and replacing calmag with growmore flowering calmag with no N. I like to keep Ca up to fight bud rot when growing those baseball bats

Numbers per gallon… For me and my water, this hits around 2.6-2.7EC at 5.8-6.0 ph… We drop things down for flush starting week 7 generally on a 9-10 week room…

  • 4.8g/gal Jacks Part A
  • 3.2g/gal Jacks Part B
  • 4.8ml/gal Calmag+ (or Growmore Flowering calmag at end of flower)
  • 2g/gal Epsom Salts
  • 0.13g/gal Plant Products Micro
  • 1.33g/gal MKP
  • 1.08ml/gal Armor Si
  • 0.72ml/gal Drip Clean

And most important… Tunes when working…

nice to see this thread coming to life.
I’m pulling up a seat on the big comfy couch.
What tunes are we groovin to there @LouDog420 ?

Sublime is a given, what else?

ps, what do you think about sublime with rome?

I never got to see Bradley live, definitely missed out. With Rome is like a good cover band, seen them several times, but he’s no Bradley. Badfish is a good cover band as well and worth the watch…

Anything with loud guitars is jamming. We run a Project Debut Carbon Evo for vinyl and have a decent sized collection. Anything grunge, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, anything rock with tons of Zep, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Floyd, Rush.

Then bring in the aficionados with Al DiMeola, Friday Night in San Fransisco, Jason Becker, Buckethead, Bumblefoot/Billy Sheehan/Portney in Sons of Apollo, Yngwie, Paul Gilbert.

Rock and Roll

Last one today as I procrastinate from taking clones and cutting down a harvest…

More HVAC. We run multiple motorized dampers to control intake and exhaust so the room either recirculates, runs air exchange, or pulls from the cold air intake. A simple 24vdc power supply hooked up to a timer or temp/humidity controller. A hodge podge of duct work but gets the job done and is fully automated so we deal with the build up of CO2 during lights off and can run sealed during the day.

We can adjust in the winter to pull cold air, and have a register setup near the outside air intake to dilute the cold air so it’s cool, but not freezing where we have condensation running down all our duct work and messing with the plants.

Autopilot CO2 controller, 20lb tank bottle fed, with line feeding into the intake and distributed through the registers.

Circulation fans in all the corners and a few others placed in the room for airflow. We clean the mini split every other run because it will want to grow nasties on the inside. Keep the air moving to keep the molds at bay.

Good vibes all,
LD

Hell yea Lou, this is sick, clearly some old school flavor in the setup, so jealous. If I didn’t have a wife and a kid this is what I’d do to my basement for sure. And yea man youre right about bad fish, killer cover band, they used to come through Burlington a lot and I loved to belly up to the bar for the shows, if you never looked at the stage and smoked enough you’d think that brand was onstage behind you every once in a while. Stoked to see you setting up another thread here man, along for the ride for sure :v:t2::heart::call_me_hand:t2:

Countdown begins… Starting with happy looking clones this round…

Ignore the sad looking plants in the bags… Backups of backups that were left in beer cups way too long and are slated for the compost pile
