Man, I really want some solid NL genetics to breed with
Hey man! Thanks for the kick in the pants! I’ve been meaning to post an update and I keep forgetting. So far things are ok considering I’ve never flowered under LED’s before, and I don’t usually flower in pots this small. Couple of plants are starting to yellow a little early. I gave em a shot of fish hydrol yesterday. I’m hoping another 3 weeks or so till harvest? I’ll let em run a little long to make sure all the seeds are mature.
You and me both!! Buds are not as big as I would like, so I’m hoping there will be enough seeds for everyone. Gonna do my best.
Looks indescribably delicious!
Hanging the plants whole after harvest allows the plants to put its remaining energy into seed formation. Even seeds that are not quite done at picking time and finish up over the next week. Excellent work! Plants look delicious!
Thanks @upstate! I will do that for sure! I really didn’t do a very good job growing these, but they smell great and are getting pretty frosty. Friday will be 9 weeks flowering. They are pretty much done, but like I said I’m going to let them go just a little longer. Now the real question, what to preserve next?!
I am 65 first time i had NL was in the mid 70’s, the story then it was a guy called “the indian” there was supposed to be 11 strains involved.
I heard something similar. 11 strains involved and only Afghani and Thai are mentioned when you read about Northern Lights… that makes for a lot of secret ingredients! My how times have changed with every new hybrid showing it’s exact lineage.
@PlantShepherd good call letting them go a little longer. Fully developed seeds not only germinate better but they keep much longer too. I’m looking forward to seeing what you choose for your next run. The Freaker’s Collective have gotten quite the list of genetics in the “vault”. It’s getting really hard to pick!
That’s great info, makes sense! I still need to decide if I’m going to do one long flowering sativa, or two shorter flowering varieties. I have quite a few Bodhi packs that could really use preserved including the Congo Kashmir x Goldstar F4 I received in the mail yesterday. I need to revisit what’s in the vault. All the durand project cultivars sound amazing too! Gonna be making some decisions on this soon!
When choosing just remember, landraces are in danger of extinction and hybrids are not. There are many endangered cultivars due to sudden hemp cultivation in many of the traditional cannabis hotspots. So now, not only hybrids but hemp are endangering many varieties
I would list nearly all South African varieties as critically endangered. Some South African genetics may already be extinct, such as swazi red. Others, like swazi gold are at a critical point. Guitarzan is growing that one right now. African varieties often lie within the 12 to 16 week range, which makes them a little easier to grow than the very long flowering sativas from closer to the Equator. South Africa just legalized hemp and is encouraging production. It’s a matter of time before stray pollen starts hitting uncontaminated patches of cannabis. Columbia is pushing hemp farming, India is pushing hemp farming and the reunion Islands are pushing hemp farming. Adding new pressures to already pressured gene pools
South African varieties are known to be good yielders with long fat colas😁
Thanks @upstate! Really value all your amazing info and dedication to preserving genetics. I’m starting to think maybe I just need you to pick out what I grow next. I don’t know that I will have time for 2 x 14 week strains next year, but if there is an African I can preserve to fulfill my requirements, I would definitely be down with that.
I would consider it an honor to pick for you. I think we are dropping the two repro requirement, which is great, but i fear the long flowers will get sidelined.
I’m no scared of getting long flowering strains , probably continue with that route for me .
They truly are special. Highly recommended to anybody wanting to be both high and happy
If that’s the case, I will definitely do a longer flowering variety. I would be really interested in an African variety, and I would definitely want you to pick it out. I don’t know enough to make good decisions on what to run.
@Donnie I’m with you man! When it comes to headstash the long flowering strains are the bomb!
You tell me what effects you enjoy, and the qualities you are looking for in a plant along with your climate ( or indoors) and I will do my best to find you something that fits the bill.
I’m more of a indica fan as far as headstash because of panic attacks and other reasons. But I’m into growing the long flowering strains just for preservation sake. Id like to have a perpetual grow going maybe rotate long flower to short flower and back to long flower and continue on , I can save some plants for hedstash atleast planning it in my mind I can .
Thank you so much @Upstate you’re the best! I really like the upbeat (even electrifying) euphoric highs, clear visual heady stuff. I will be growing indoors. My el bano led set up would be the minimum environment for the next grow. If I have my druthers, I will get some missing parts for my tent and another light. That will be time and finance dependent though. Oh man, now I’m getting excited!
@Donnie Heck yeah! I love them all, but for different activites, times of the day, etc. I just saw a post on IG from a scientist talking about how having some cbd in the strain helps with anxiety/panic attacks.
I haven’t had that experience with cbd yet , I had some cbd suckers and they made me sick . I haven’t tried cbd flower yet but I have some seeds ill eventually start at some point to try . Each strain is different so ill try anything a time or two .
