With the disclaimer that I only know what I have read:
My understanding is that the pistils are what you should watch for “ready to harvest”. Orange pistils = ready (which are different than the changes to indicate pollination). If my current run gets that far, that’s the indicator I plan to use.
I hope the little one starts feeling better quickly and that the job situation improves soon.
Thanks, C! People also talk about “watch for the calyxes to swell and then you harvest X days later” or something along those lines. Even though they’re actually bracts! . Maybe ol’ Bobby Clarke will steer me right. Although I probably won’t be done with the book before this harvest. I’ve been reading it out loud to my daughter haha.
Sorry (please read that in the Canadian way because that’s how I tend to talk even though I only live in Canada-Lite a.k.a. Minnesota) if I came off as somewhat miserable. I’m actually feeling pretty good overall. Baby is doing much better. Pretty much over the sniffles and only woke up once last night! Winning! I’ve also gotta remind myself that I do have a job and I like my coworkers. It could certainly be worse. But I’ve been feeling the sting of two kids in daycare and I’m like, damn, I need to get off my ass and find a better paying job.
At the end of the day, I’m a ranty guy. Once I get a head of steam I can really go on, especially when it comes to the work stuff. It really gets to me. And I like getting high and typing. Lol. That’s great that you’re enjoying the greenery of New England! I gotta say, I know we all love Denver here because mountains! Weed! But damn, I was there 2 years ago in April and what an ugly fuckin’ town hahaha. At least that time of year it was. Did you move for work? Family? I’m always curious what motivates long distance moves for people. I’ve never left my region of origin.
I’ve been trying to use actual botanical terms for things where I can. Anthers is a fun one.
Glad the kiddo is doing better! Totally understand work rants. I personally am a pretty ranty person myself. If you get me started on a few topics, I’m off and running with Strong Opinions.
Agreed about denver being ugly. It’s just brown and grey. The mountains are gorgeous. Denver is not.
We moved because we were ready to leave the area we were in (rural outside denver), and CO is super expensive, so to move within the state would have put us in areas we were less interested in living. Partner and I had both been there about 10 years, we met in CO. His job is remote, and I’m self/un employed at the moment (gradually working toward self employment compatible with my health issues). We’d been looking to move to Albuquerque for years, that was The Plan. Then housing market skyrocketed and water issues got worse, so the equation changed, and we wanted to find somewhere less drought-y, less wildfire-y, less many-things-y than many parts of the country. So we looked at places that had things we wanted, and CT ended up at the top of the list.
The entire state has the same population as the denver metro area. It’s weird to be able to be in multiple different states within 2 hours, and live in a state that’s about the size of 3 of our former county stacked vertically. It is quite a change, but we’re very happy with the move. Minnesota was a strong consideration, but being ~2 hours from NYC and Boston means annoying but possible access to so many things. We don’t exactly plan to go there on a regular basis, but we could.
Strain is “Sour Diesel” from NASC’s white label section. Not sure if they provide parentage now, but at the time I got these they didn’t. I grew out a different seed of it last summer and it was pretty good but cured into absolute hay. The hash I made with the last quarter ounce of it or so turned out really good though. I don’t really think any of these plants finished. Just not enough light under the canopy in that park. I’ll smoke them and am open to being surprised. Maybe I’ll roll some stupidly large blunts with them or something and save them for next time I’m camping. Something fun like that.
Here are a bunch of photos of the tents. Speaking of swollen calyxes/bracts, one of the ESB ladies (blueberry jam scent) definitely swelled up over the last two days. She’ll definitely be done before the wedding trip in two weeks.
Once I filled up the reservoir for the PXBs they’ve had hydro-like growth. It’s crazy. I’m working on popping some fems to replace any males I end up with in there, but having some trouble. I usually have good germination, probably mostly because I don’t have old seeds, but my luck seems to have run out. And also when baby was sick over the weekend I neglected to moisten the paper towel I had beans in and they dried up. Whoops! Anyway, hurray for weed and smoke 'em if you got 'em!
