My second season of outdoor growing

@FieldEffect I hear ya on the bugs. BT works great on keeping caterpillars under control. As for aphids, mites, etc, I use SAFER brand insecticidal soap concentrate mixed with a little citric acid and a little bit of dawn dish soap thrown in for good measure. It’s phytotoxic, so i spray after the sun sets, wait fifteen minutes and rinse it off really well. It works really well at keeping the bugs under control. As for grasshoppers, the only thing I’ve found that works 100% of the time is a pair of scissors.

Thanks for the tip! I actually used the Safer insecticidal soap on my ghost peppers for aphids, worked great.

Figured I post some result pictures. Don’t have a good enough camera to bother with detail nugshots, it takes so much time to get a good photo I’d be doing it all day.

Anyway, here’s what lives in my desk (samples of everything in 1/4oz Grove bags, divided by effect in mylar zip bags.

The cooler of destiny that usually lives in the closet.

Inside the cooler of destiny. Added some weather stripping to the edges for a better seal, can’t smell a thing with it closed. Few Bovedas in there to keep the RH close to 58-60% for long-term storage.

What’s inside the cooler. Hard to get a decent depiction of just how much weed is in there.

What’s inside the Grove bags. Left to Right: SAD Fast (Black Domina), Dragon’s Hashplant, Snow-G, Avenue of the Giants, Hella Jelly, Hawaiian Snow

Harvest Total/Subjective Review:

14oz Hella-Jelly (and about a half pound of fresh-frozen) :star: :1st_place_medal:
Love it. Fruit pie smell, nice flowers, looks great. Favorite. 9/10 like the Snow-G. Flavor is right up my alley and the effects are perfect for afternoon errands.

16oz Snow-G :star: :2nd_place_medal:
Really liking this. Citrus/chemical smell that’s overpowering, really nice flower structure. Second favorite of the run 9/10 because I’ve not had better weed although I know it exists somewhere. Relaxing but not sleepy, although by the time I actually get to bed I slip off really quickly.

4oz Sweet Afghani Delicious Fast F1
Like this. Tastes like old school weed. Reminds me of college, stoney effect. Bedtime smoke. 8/10

12oz Avenue of the Giants
Starting to like this more. Smells like a drag strip, but smokes really smooth and skunky. Balanced type of effect, half mental, half body relaxation. 8/10

2oz Super Lemon Haze Auto
Enjoy this, I’d say more of a hybrid balanced type effect. Nice flavor, 7/10

6oz Hawaiian Snow (huge plant, probably 3lb as well but all the bugs forced me to dispose of a LOT)
This is good, reminds me of high school for some reason. Maybe there’s a hint of Mexican in there. Nice effect, good for chore days. Gonna light some up this afternoon and finish laundry. 8/10 :slightly_smiling_face:

16oz Dragon Hashplant (huge plant, probably 3lb or so but bugs/rot/neglect made most of this look quite unsatisfactory to me)
Haven’t smoked her yet, curing now. Quite a bit more than a pound into the bags for cure. Got a lot for hash. Smells much less strong than most of the others.

1oz Runtz XL Auto
Not a big fan of this, although I loved it before the other plants came in. 5/10, giving away. Didn’t dry long enough, hayish smell. My fault.

3oz Critical Kush Auto
Lovely lemon floor cleaner scent, harsh taste. Probably my fault, still running salts when this thing was coming of age. 4/10, giving away.

Thanks for the smoke report. Looks like you got a pretty decent haul, too.

hey field effect- your buds look great to me! I’ve trimmed mine down quite a bit farther to avoid bud rot, mold, etc. I might have to try grove bags and bone up on my technique!

I like the cure I’m getting with Indiana Bubblegum in the 1lb grove bag versus my weathertite totes and 58% boveda packs. No burping. Next year just grove bags in a tote for all my flower. :100: :fire:

I thought the Grove bags have been a great addition to good drying technique - I made a very overcomplicated drying rig here: Dry/Cure Cabinet - DIY Open-Source Precision Dry Chamber . My results are very pleasing to me, but trimming was definately a weak point this year.

I’m on another level than the season before. Hopefully will make a similarly large stride in quality next season, although it will certainly be more subtle. I haven’t slowed down learning things.

@ColeLennon you just gotta keep rubbing it in, I pulled the FDM seeds out of the mailbox this morning. Next season! :yum:

Holy Baby Jesus! The Cooler of Destiny looks like a real rabbit hole, I’d definitely get stuck in there from the sound of it. Really looking great man. Many thanks for all the fine details now and along the way, gonna get my hands on some of that jelly one of these days, you just made it official. Wondering if you have found any random beans in her?

Thanks man! It’s been fun to share with other people doing the same thing, especially others that share the ups and downs along the way. We all have had crazy seasons, in different ways. Happy overall and learned a ton.

Haven’t found any random beans, but I certainly have extras
