Colors look great indeed. Chopped the DHP yesterday but only saved about a third of the total yield, and pulled some more buds (small amount maybe a couple ounces) off the Hawaiian Snow. This is probably the end of the season, we’re supposed to get snow tonight. Mixed emotions with that, partially relieved it’s pretty much over, partially dissappointed to have found the issues I did yesterday.
Dissappointed, but not shocked at several colas of DHP with rot and bug infestation. Again, I only chopped the colas that looked unaffected, and went through them well to make sure anything sus was eliminated. This took more time than I wanted, but that’s alright. Did more of a wet trim this time than just pull big fans. The Snow-G buds that I’ve left to ripen have a bunch of small black fly-like bugs, so I didn’t pull any of those (already have a pound or so of trimmed in the Grove bag), no worries. The Hawaiian Snow bug issues are even worse so I was very selective with which branches got harvested.
Washed a little differently this time. No plain water rinse bucket, more H2O2 (~48oz/4 gallons water) and two buckets of peroxide water. Wash in one, rinse in the other. I’d go one cola at a time, so they spent about 5 minutes in each of the two peroxide buckets, and the water got GROSS. Bugs, bug turds, spiders, all kind of stuff I don’t want to smoke. This isn’t new to see, but I have to say that this is the most effective way so far I’ve tried. Better than the lemon juice/backing soda for sure, glad I only did that once. Next season I’ll buy some airstones for the buckets and use my compost tea pump to bubble the wash water. I almost tried it this time but the airstones were too dirty, and I couldn’t wait because of the unseasonal October snow storm incoming.
I’ll get some pics of the stash once these are finished drying. My yield totals are about:
2oz Super Lemon Haze Auto
1oz Runtz XL Auto
3oz Critical Kush Auto
4oz Sweet Afghani Delicious Fast F1
12oz Avenue of the Giants
16oz Snow-G
14oz Hella-Jelly (and about a half pound of fresh-frozen)
16oz Dragon Hashplant (huge plant, probably 3lb or so but bugs/rot/neglect made most of this look quite unsatisfactory to me)
6oz Hawaiian Snow (huge plant, probably 3lb as well but all the bugs forced me to dispose of a LOT)
Overall happy about the experience, and going to reduce the number of plants next season. The end of this season was very hectic with a promotion at work, wife and daughter things, meant things got a lot less care toward the end of the season. Main lessons learned this season:
-
Organic from now on, when possible. Comparing the initial Autos that were finished on salts, to the others that spent their last few weeks/months on compost tea, I just like the organic better. This is weird for me to write because so much literature essentially says that they aren’t different if executed properly. Maybe I did the salts wrong, but it doesn’t matter at this point. I’m keeping them if I run into emergency deficiciences I can medicate rapidly with low concentration salts, but, I see what people were talking about. Lots of progress since last year, not even in the same league. These plants were for the most part, big and healthy.

Need better bug control. I’m thinking I do something like I’ve seen here before, with mesh-screened, house for the plants. I forget her name but you guys have definately seen her grow here. I want to go one step farther with the clear roofing sheets like a greenhouse, but the moth mesh on the sides so it doesn’t get too hot. No more grasshoppers or moths, at least I hope. I’d appreciate a few less spiders too, hopefully not having plants full of other bugs keeps them at bay. This year was definately an improvement over last year, so progress has been made.

Budwashing, I’m getting best results using just peroxide 48oz 3% or so per 4 gallons, two buckets. One for rough wash, one for final wash/rinse both with the peroxide in them. Leave for several minutes in each with a healthy swish/bend underwater to open up the buds as you do it. Flick them dry and leave out in the open air for 30 minutes or so got most of the surface water off. @Pigeonman recommends 128oz 3% per 3 gallons water, I’m quite a ways from this concentration - maybe I’ll buy something more concentrated next year.

I had no issues with the neighbors or theft, and I’m going to be sharing the wealth over the holiday season, especially with the ones that I had talked to about the grow making sure they’d be OK with it once it stinks, the lady next door who had her fenceline and kitchen window-view violated (or enhanced ) by the 30 gallon beast plants the last few months. They’re all awesome families, it nice that we all watch out for each other and I’m thankful for that.

The dry cabinet was 100% worth the time/money. That makes the trimming so much easier, knowing I have extra time to deal with it, and the simplicity is awesome. I don’t even check anymore. I may open it for pictures today but I’ll crack it open in 2 weeks and get the Hashplant pound trimmed up. Those trays can be loaded much more than I was initially, as I lowered the circulation rate over the course of my experiences. Right now the consolidated trays are running 3-4oz or so dry weight of the big colas, must be closer to a pound each wet.

Very happy with the Grove bags but will opt for different sizes next season. I’m using 1oz and 2lb bags primarily. I’ll go with mostly QP bags next year, and I’ll get the type with the windows so I can see inside. Got the cooler for the stash to keep it safe from the little one, has locking tabs for small padlocks. Think that’ll work well at making sure the external environment isn’t widely variable, I’ll probably chuck a 58% big boveda pack in the main volume of the cooler before I add the bags of weed. It’ll go in the laundry room which is cold over the winter, about 10F less than the rest of the house, inside the cooler will be dark and reasonable humidity over the winter. I’ve got some 1/4oz grove bags of most plants in my desk drawer with my grinder and papers, a few jars too for the “day-to-day” stash.

Thank you all for your advice, support and input throughout the season. Had I not pulled the Snow-G when I did, it would have all been bug-infested. Had I not switched to organic I wouldn’t have discovered the beauty of that world, constructing a soil ecosystem. I’ve never seen mushrooms in my garden before…ever. It became routine seeing healthy plants and soil. It’s been a bigger success than I figured last April when this started, despite still having a fair share of issues and struggles.
Appreciate this open platform to document and share the process, get feedback, make modfications and we can all see how it worked.
Cheers guys, I’ll try to get those stash/harvest pics up today
