My very first cross! *Trial run

Nice! Good luck on your journey!
If you find something awesome in there, try to F2 the keeper. You will be praying for good males from those seeds. :grinning: Then, the “flower I made” game keeps getting better. It starts throwing surprise parties for you. And having that pile of F1 seeds keeps on giving in case you want to back cross something down the line.

Day 27 flower. The big plant is absolutely killin it. The two small plants are still playing catch-up.

The big girl. Such an amazing Sprite/7Up smell to it already

The squat plant is crowning its flowers like normal

The tall-small plant is furthest behind in flower, and it’s throwing these leaves over the tops of the flower crowns which is pretty unique I think :man_shrugging: I don’t recall the other two doing this.

So far, I haven’t noticed any intersex traits on any of the plants, that’s a “win” in my book! A majority of the expressed traits seem to lean mom/Chernobyl, but the two smaller plants are a little more “dank/funky” which is what my Slurricane exhibited. Also seems to be slightly better stacking but it’s still kinda early to fully rate that.

But MAN OH MAN, so far so good :+1: :+1:

That is a crap load of seeds. I see the success you all have, and it makes me want to branch out into other aspects like making seeds.

@Simdadon yeah I would highly advise doing at least one seed run if your space and time allows :metal: letting a male just open-dump a whole room & entire plants IMO wasn’t the smartest idea, certainly not the cleanest :skull::rofl: I’d like to try again & harvest the pollen to do more isolated pollination of certain branches

Just got caught up @RookieBuds . The new crosses look good! Happy to hear they are turning out for you. Proof of you post above. I think making your own selections is a natural progression in the life of a grower and it’s cool when things work out! And you got those sprite/7up terps! I’ve been looking for that profile through the Appalachia stuff but found mostly foul Chem. Good on you! Best of luck with the rest of your run!

OMFG man, this lady is stacking REEEEAAALLLY nicely :ok_hand: this was what I was hoping at least one plant would do, which is exhibit mostly Chernobyl traits but have the heavier Slurricane flowers :metal:

The other two smaller plants are still caching up, but this one single plant has hit the prospected bullseye for me :+1::+1:. Nice

Here’s where we’re at right now. …this pic of the biggest plant was two days ago:

Two unbiased noses have separately confirmed “OMFG that smells like Sprite!” Gosh darnit all to heck for not keeping a cut of this, but I’m hoping to find more of these in the seeds.

These pics below are the two smaller plants, literally taken just now:

This one looks a lot like the Chernobyls I’ve previously grown, and similar to a specific one I once had, this one has an odd dirty mushroomy kind of smell to it. I’m not shocked by it since I’ve had one before, but definitely not a keeper.

The shortest squatest one has a very unique breakfast sausage sage-y kind of vibe to it. Not sure where that’s coming from, but structurally this one leans to the Slurricane.

Simply based on the largest plant alone, and how absolutely PERFECTLY it hits the mark I was aiming for, I am elated with this cross.

Congrats @RookieBuds ! It’s a great feeling when your selections turn out the way you envisioned. You got a fat cola AND the sprit, gonna be hooked on seed making now! Keep in mind that its not that hard to re-veg a plant, even after taking it full term. There is still plenty of hope if that plant turns out to be the “one”.
Best of luck with the rest of your run!

I agree you should try it… I’ve got three of my own cross going right now, among other plants.

I too would advise, if possible, to not just leave the male in the room/tent with all the plants u are flowering… Too much seeded bud to go through and do you really need a thousand seeds.?.?.?

What I do:
After I flip light :bulb: schedule I watch closely checking in at least once/twice a day… I remove the males as they show up and move them into my shower in my bathroom… Then I cull them to the males and amount I like/ need. I then remove the female plant to be pollinated and tie a bag(s) around the parts I DONT Want to be seeded. Once that is done I move her into the shower/love room with the chosen male(s). I’ll shake around some branches or the whole male plant or just cut off a branches of the male plant and just rub it on the flowering sites I want seeded. I do this 2 or 3 times over 8 or so hours then let them just chill together overnight. Maje sure the female you are going to pollinate cones in nice and dry the soil… You then water the plant by spraying water all over it, to help deactivate any pollen just hanging around. I will kill the male at that point, usually and let female dry in shower. After 2-3 hours I’ll put it on floor in bathroom and turn on my hot shower to get room nice and moist and steamy… After that I’ll wipe the pot down and move it back into flower space but on the edges for a couple days and turn off the fans… I then water by spray the rest of the plants and then it’s back to business as normal. You just let them go longer to help make sure your seeds ripen.

  • Make sure plants are dry or between waterings during this time… you should try and time it to use water as your helper to help deactivate any residual pollen hanging around.
  • Also forgot to mention when I take bag off plant parts that ARE NOT being pollinated… I do it after watering but before hot shower steam bath. I can get about 50+ seeds per medium sized branch like this and have plenty of seeds for myself and to share some and keep most of my bud “seed free”. I say “seed free” in quotes because I still usually end up with 5 or so seeds per plant of the others I wasnt pollinating but it’s non-issue 5 seeds between in a whole plant worth of flowers…for example my last male was a Bodhi Cherry Queen. I made f2s and a cross to Seattle Chronics One Ton (The one x (PEZ x Ortega) x the one bx). I still ended up with 6 seeds from Bodhi Sundance and 5 seeds from nl2 ibl (Deep Ellum) and a couple seeds here and there from the others. @RookieBuds you could probably use a similar system, modifying it for your personal situation… It’s really not to difficult and if you have any questions or C ncetns about the process I’m here to help. That said I’m just a “Rookie” grower as well and there many much more experienced and talented growers here to get advice from as well. Best of luck and I’ll be watching this journal grow. I’ve got my first grow journal on OG going on now id you want to take a look. It’s only like 20-30 days in so far but it’s got 3 Tonygreens auto gg4 starting to flower and rest are photoperiods in veg.

One issue, that I haven’t had occur, but people have brought up in the past is worried about 1-2 nights in the bathroom /shower in regards to light leaks or changed light schedule for those 2 nights and it causing herm… I’ve never had a problem with that but you may want to keep that consideration in mind if you’re worried or working with a finicky plan/strain.

For example, I’m generally flowering lights on in my grow space during night time hours and in my bathroom, which has a window and receives direct sunlight, obviously it’s light is during the day… And may even occasionally have lights come on and off briefly at night if my wife gets up to pee or something. I have draped towels around shower to help minimize light that may enter but I have also other times done nothing and so far had no herm problems. Usually I bring the pollinated plant back to the grow space early morning, when lights are off or just about to turn of in grow space, so it has like a 24 hour ish dark period (the previous night in my bathroom then the 12-13hrs lights off in my grow space)

The largest plant is KILLIN IT, a perfect example of what I was aiming for with this cross. Nailed it with the VERY FIRST seed dropped :ok_hand::pray::pray:

The smallest plant is a TRIP! It’s making the tent smell kinda like a Bubba, there’s a slight coffee bean aroma when I open the tent. Still has that sage-y breakfast sausage vibe when you smoosh a sugar leaf. I have no idea where these terps are coming from but the structure still looks Slurricane to me

The tall-small plant got a couple flushes, it seemed like it was looking overfed or sensitive to the feed schedule, and it’s gained back some of the lime-citrus vibe but still kinda smells wet-mushroomy. It’s stacking in a HURRY, really bulked up in the last week :+1:

Overall tent shot. I’m finally pleased with this view, for a long time the small plants just weren’t looking like good flowering plants, now they’re looking pretty nice IMO

Looking absolutely wondermous :pray:t2: where did you get those tent extenders? I’ve been looking for one of those for my 3x3

The biggest plant is finally starting to show signs of ripening. It just seemed to keep stacking & stacking. The aromas on this one are PERFECT :ok_hand:

The tall-small plant still stacking fairly quickly but is somewhat on the leafy side compared to the largest plant.

The “outlier” in this group, the shortest plant with the most unexpected terpene profile. Also not as bulky flowers as the largest plant.
