My zippers on my tent are leaking light

hey everybody, i have a problem with the zippers on my tent. they are leaking, I thought it would go away after some use. When things started to flatting out (inside flaps).but that has not been the case, so I was wondering if anybody else had this issue and know how to fix without returning or replacing zippers ! Cheers

On the older tent I was always zipping it down and then back up it has two zippper pull things, it got real bad, to make it thru this crop i started zipping it down then up opposite way and its holding now for 3 weeks

I have small leaks like that.
I keep the room it’s in dark usually. I turn the lights on atleast a few times a day though never had any issues.

If it’s new maybe return it and get a new one?

I dont think you will have any issues from this.

I doubt that little bit affects the plants, after all, outside they get moon light.

Is it the zippers or the seams where they are sewn on? If it is the seam you could just use some black nail polish or something similar which would seal the pinholes. I don’t get when these tent manufacturers don’t design them with a flap over the zippers. This is a real common issue that could be easily fixed with a slight design change.

That looks similar to mine, it hasn’t been an issue but I keep the lung room pretty dark.
A full moon is throwing down about 0.1 lux, so a couple ‘pin holes’ of light shouldn’t matter.

If you are looking for a fix, perhaps adding some material to the sewn in ‘strips’ that are supposed to block the light. Maybe ‘iron on’ or fabric glue? You really need to look at it from the inside to figure out where that might help. (2 person job )

I don’t even zip it up all the way all the time (my tent or my pants); I think the tents all have leaks tbh. Do your best and don’t sweat it so long as your lung room is dark anyways.

I should have gone with gorilla. The tent is loaded right now. what I’m afraid of is, i want to put a veg/ mother tent in same room. I’m like a wk or 2 from flower.
Thanks for reply’s. I bought it back in 1/2/21.
Was only able to set it up 5 was ago. Going to have to check on return policy
Cheers everyone :+1:

btw i had checked locally and here it would cost more to repair the zipper then buy a new tent.

Yeah, but of a totally different consistency and bandwidth. ANY light leak is evil indoors and can have more impact than you might first think.

I have 2 tents. A Vivosun and a Gorilla Lite (both under 6 months old). The Gorilla (3x the cost) probably has 5 times more pinholes than the Vivosun tent.

I think these tents with defects where made on Monday’s and Friday’s

Ya it happens. Cut a strip of black/white plastic and put it next to the seam, when you close the tent you can cover the seam with the flap and oftentimes negative pressure will hold it in. If not that velcro tape is good to hold it in place.

Even duct tape or something opaque and sturdy will work.

black silicone works well.

Almost all tents have pinholes, the way to fix that is by using a dark silicone and putting it on your fingers and filling the holes. Most of the time though, if they are small, it doesn’t really matter. As long as you don’t have a bunch of them in one spot, or a large hole you can put a pencil though, you should be fine.

That would work as well. Was just easy to grab some nail polish from my daughter in the next room

The problem with nail polish is the smell, and the multiple coats needed to get dark out conditions. It can also strip the protective layer over the Mylar in the tent.

Nope, just one dot on a pinhole worked perfectly. Not enough used that it smelled for more than a minute. I can’t speak to the protective layer, I can say it worked perfect and only took a second. I will say I like your idea better though, just not what I had on hand at the time.

I just “fixed” this same issue with some t rex tape .

vivosun makes a lot of quality affordable gear ipower is another one none of its made for the long haul but a year of solid use is worth the price

It’s the zippers, plus seems, and of course the pin holes.
The frig’n thing just Sucks. Due to unforseen issues I was not able to set it up for months after purchase. Then was in such a hurry to get it running, well let’s just say I did not do my do -diligence
Another lesson learned.
