Here’s another one that’s probably more your style.
Not much of a video, but I like the sound… the voice is a bit odd, but nothing I can’t get past. It’s a hell of a lot better than gravel. Like I told you, my ex’s favorite band was Slipknot. That was too much for me, though even with them, I didn’t mind them until the “singing” got started. I also have a few hymns, classical pieces and folk songs on my playlist. I’m a bit eccentric about my music tastes.
Oh, and though I didn’t really appreciate Slipknot live, I did love these guys…
The video doesn’t even factor for me. I listen to classic rock, punk once in awhile, and stoner/doom bands no one knows. For all of them videos either didn’t exist yet or they’re not getting played by anyone mainstream enough to bother making any.
I don’t do cookie monster stuff either. Probably the closest I can get is Hatebreed or E Town Concrete (Jersey boys!).
These guys are heavy in the rotation to
And whether you like that or not the guitar player and drummer from The Sword teamed up with some other doom guys and made the single greatest Pink Floyd tribute album ever. They called themselves Doom Side Of The Moon and did darkside in it’s entirety. They also did an encore 2 song ep of a few Floyd songs.
Fair point. Most of Ghost’s earlier songs don’t have videos either, and those tend to be their heavier songs too… they’ve had a few lead singers, or Popes as they would say.
Anyway, the first 45 seconds or so were good of that first one, after that it got a little fast and heavier than I usually like. I liked them better doing Floyd, they kept it a little bit more melodic. Not bad though, they’re clearly talented; just a matter of preference, fast and heavy rarely does it for me.
The voice isn’t heavy though which makes it ok for me. If he was growling the whole time as much as I like the music I couldn’t do it. Deja vu, didn’t we talk about this at Wawa?
What I love about the Floyd covers is that they were super respectful of the originals. They added their style to them but stayed pretty true to them. I feel like the tendency with a metal band doing those songs would be to want to metal it up as much as possible. These guys seem to have taken the opposite approach where preserving the song they love enough to cover stays true. I commented something like that to the guitar player on Instagram once and he seemed pretty proud and gracious that I felt that way, said it was absolutely how they approached it and he was glad that it came through.
SMH… And the Grateful Dead too? Perhaps you might like a little Widespread Panic instead…
Uh. WTF is the cookie monster stuff? Am I getting old?
Hmm. Phish covered it back in 1998. Its in the second set of this show.
Bust my balls all you want about Phish. But I dunno many bands that have fans that will drive all the way to Limestone, ME for a 3 day festival. And there’s not many bands I would wanna see twice in the same tour (same boring setlist!) but Phish I have done 12 shows in 15 days before, and had like 4 songs repeated in 12 shows…And I once hated Phish… Let that sink in… You just gotta be dragged to a show
Clearly you’re already depraved enough then, if all that seemed entirely normal. Or maybe I’m just naive, somewhere between the two… first time I saw those videos, anyway, I was a bit shocked and horrified, then I started to appreciate the irony and contrast which I think is what they were going for. Upside down and backwards…
I didn’t know this either, but just kinda moved past it. As @Slick1 said, we already had this conversation at Wawa, so I maybe I subconsciously guessed that was what he meant. I’m already old too, though. Pretty sure we all are.
I’m just not that dedicated to music in general to drive most of a day, much less stay for three. I’d rather sit and listen in the comfort of my own home, which I can do for free without being overcharged 150% for food and drink too. I’m just not that interested in the musicians, or meeting other fans, which I think means the whole festival spirit is lost on me no matter who’s playing. Been the same with every concert I’ve been to in the past 20 years, which hasn’t been many since I’ve started to figure out I just won’t like them no matter who’s playing… no sinking in required, I’ve been listening to that concert you linked for 15 minutes and haven’t minded it but still wouldn’t enjoy the concert scene. I do like that Widespread Panic song you linked, more than either Phish or The Sword… it’s in the goldilocks zone. Phish is too slow, The Sword is too fast, and they’re just right. For 5 minutes, anyway… 3 days would be too much of any band, for me.
The one that got me was when I said Phish should cover the Skynyrd plane crash (where half the band died) I laughed my ass off for a minute when that popped into my head.
@Slick1 sounds like you and i are kindred spirits in terms of tunes bud. been on an electric wizard kick lately in between some hip hop and outlaw country. i think Spotify’s algorithym thinks im a whole family on one account
Notice I didn’t include Plane Crash…
Sorry, but this is the best I can do… And its yet ANOTHER show that I was at! Two night run (mon/tue) at Great Woods in Mass. They closed Tuesday night with this tune. Fun fact of the day. They decided to close with this tune just before the first set, and they didn’t know it. A crew member sought out a recording of it, they LEARNED IT ON SETBREAK and closed the second set with it. This was also an epic show because I met both Mike (bassist) AND Page (keyboards) on the lot before the show. Meeting Mike was somewhat common, Page and Trey rarely cruised the lots before a show though, so meeting Page there was pretty cool. They also opened Monday nights show with “Foreplay / Long Time” from Boston, as it had been like 12 or 13 years since they played the venue.
Try as ya might to bust my balls, yer just making me look up some damn good memories man. Thanks!!!
In school, I was the kid that always sat right next to the windows. I would get no work done if my window looked like that. Unless diving was my job. lol
I had divers in the water with an instructor. I got to sit up on the 2nd story deck, drink a few rum n cokes, and wait for em. Hard life. ROFL. Oh, and drive my instructor / gear back to the shop and put stuff away after.
What where you telling us? I’m sorry got bud in my ear. Damn it. @MoBilly and @Slick1 he invited us to come and visit. @Nagel420 thanks man. Lol nice picture. Yea! @Slick1 i told ya our boat would come in. Sorry we need a boat to get there. Joking. Peace. I would swim there. Beautiful. WSP I do love some Phish.
