This is probably my favorite thread to lurk on. You’re one of the OG G.O.A.T.s, for sure

I would pick some of these. Tropicana Poison is such an amazing looking plant just to look at. I’d grow it just for that reason even if it wasn’t pot.
But this is better. lol

And it begins!

3 sets, Live Streamed from the 9th Cube…

Almost looks like they are in an empty MSG, they have the full light rig up, and gotta say nice high def video tonight…

Hey @Slick1 this ones for you bud! (btw, your favorite photographer is in the funky smoking jacket)

Solid set 1 opener with Moma Dance, but ODD AS FUCK hearing a silent arena…

And on to Tube! Is someone saying some bong hits are on the menu next?!?! Gotta take the signs as they come

edit… They said 8:30 promptly… They are NEVER on time. Well. at 8:30 they were already playing!!

Kinda digging how they’ve put colored light tubes throughout the “audience”… Unique show for sure…

@Slick1 loves fish!!! Sorry not everybody likes Trey. Lol WSP baby! Happy New Year joking. I like some Phish

I enjoy WSP as well, they just don’t get out east as often as I’d like… Last I saw them was NYE in 2005 or 2006 in Radio City Music Hall, NYC… . damn thats like 15-16 yrs ago!

Happy New Years buddy!

I’m in the diner for days. Big panic kid. They were around at one time but maybe not as far up is where you’re at. I got agree they were a little different where they played at. We both know there are a lot better bands than that. I think we talked about music before

Awesome! thanks for sharing.
Enjoying the jams.

Solid first set. a little odd with the silence of no crowd. LONG time since they played Time Turns Elastic. But great solid tune choice between Moma, Tube, Free, Ghost. a beautiful Slave to the Traffic Light, and the dancing in Cavern to close out the first set it seems.

Ok, that was a funny closer…

Trey “Ok, we’re gonna take a short 10 minute break. Feel free to wander… all over the house if you want to.” fucqued up Trey, but still funny as shit…

edit: love their “stay Tuned” screen holder. Sea Turtles swimming amongst Donuts in abstract art.

2nd set - Sigma Oasis meh… But 2nd song - Down with Disease. Drop that funk bass Mike! And holy crap, Chris Kuroda (the light guy) has upped his game with color changing LED’s and its PHENOMINAL… When you think their light show is off the hook and they give you even MORE… SICK SICK SICK I can only imagine those lights on shrooms from 2nd tier dead center…

More edits: midway thru the 2nd set and they drop a SICK YEM (thats for you @Slick1) , aka “You Enjoy Myself”… AND… They bring out the TRAMPS! Trampolines for you gutter minds. Mike and Trey do this bounce thing on the trampolines to the beat. Was a treat back in the day, and at Coventry (their “last show” in 2006?) they gave away the original tramps to the crowd and a friend of mine got one. Definitely cool to see them BOUNCING tonight!

Ok. Second set was pretty solid with DWD, YEM and Possum. Not a big fan of the newer material (2009 to present), but its still good stuff, just doesn’t get me moving…

Now let me say Phish isn’t a 4 man band. There’s 4 guys on stage, but its a 5 man band, and the 5th band member is SO underrated… This man’s name is Chris Kuroda, the bands lighting guy. Its one thing to choreograph lighting to a click track thats played the same night after night with cues, its totally another to do lights for a band that never knows what the next song that will be played is… His lighting is the “Fifth Instrument” as the light shows they do are insane and as much a part of the show as the music is. So much so, that there was a movement called CK5 to have him recognized as the unofficial 5th band member… If there’s any ONE thing that made me really enjoy “Second Tier Dead Center” as my favorite seats, it was Chris’s lights… I did a few screen grabs of what would be my preferred view tonight, |Still just don’t do it justice when you realize the trials of synchronizing lights to a band thats jamming and going off course!

And the third set is starting… Lets see where this goes, this is where it usually gets REALLY interesting! Starting with… Blaze On! How fitting

Edit solid 3rd set, they were jamming a bit and missed midnight by a few mins. And Fishman brought out the electrolux! And the broke out “Baby Lemonade” which hadn’t been played since… 1992!! So… Whats the electrolux? Well, its that classic 1950’s vacuum… And for the tune, Trey the guitarist moves to drums, and Fishman, the drummer, uses the electrolux with his hands / mouth to solo. Sounds wierd, but it works. Electrolux performances are rare, I think I saw 3 of them in 87 shows… For a non phan, probably rather strange. But for a hardcore phan? A real treat! Really curious how late they are gonna push it without having MSG’s curfew to adhere to

12:35 By now we’d be filing outta MSG…

12:44 Harry Hood… “Where do you go when the lights go out?” SERIOUSLY missing a glowstick war here… But still one of my favorites live… In 1998>99 they wanted to minimize the typical glowstick being tossed around, so they had 150 performers come out with “glow rings” which they threw into the audience by the thousands… The cool part was you could disconnect the ring, and connect it to other rings to make giant snakes. like snakes that went from MSG’s upper tier, down to lower tier, across the floor, and to the upper tier on the other side of the venue, like a giant glowing bowl of spaghetti… I will NEVER forget that show, that Harry Hood was insane with the glow rings…

And since I am such a fan of the lights, I watch them like a hawk. One of the cool things I noticed was entire trusses were super smoothly moved and operated to give TONS of lighting effects vs static trusses… To me thats taking the lighting to even more levels, as you are automating the trusses in addition to the lights. Just mind blowing what their lighting guy has at his fingertips!

Reading through your comments about the shows last night has me smiling and happily reminiscing the Guns N Roses show in Milwaukee in 2017. It was at the old Milwaukee Bucks arena, aka BMO Harris-Bradley Center. The acoustics in that arena were phenomenal, sad to see it go. Anyhow, we were way up in the cheap seats, but that allowed me to catch a totally different “show”, and it was truly mesmerizing. Watching the light tech up in that little operators booth attached to the trusses was SO cool, bordering on full-on distracting.

You make a very interesting point about this 5th band member in the light tech person. They’re every bit as skilled at what they do as the performers on stage, and that deserves a bit of the spotlight, no pun intended.

Is the smoking jacket to make him feel more like Hugh Hefner after taking his artistic photos? :open_mouth:

I would rather have screws drilled into my toes than listen to Phish

Is Mike the photographer? Wonder if he sold Trey on the trampoline bit so he’d have trampolines there to entice any kids in the audience with

It was a different show, for sure… Silence between songs really IS deafening! Oddly so!

I dunno how that applies to a rehearsed, cued a click-tracked show. But when they choose the next song while playing the current one, take a 1 min solo and morph it into a 20 minute jam, and generally just play whatever, whenever, to me thats what earns Chris his spot in the band, his instruments just happen to be lights

I think so, but he told me to ask you what it was like being in front of his camera. Ya wanna know the irony? I was at that show in Jones Beach. I really think if he did what you said, the Hells Angels dad of that girl would pummeled him to an unrecognizable lump of flesh…

yeah, a plan he started working on some 15 years earlier… SMH… I do find it amusing that you circle back to the art photo thing which happened nearly 20 years ago vs. finding anything current…

And you saw Janice… sigh… How can ya not appreciate some good funk / rock / jam?

You guys do miss the point with my fav band… I’ve seen 500+ concerts, and I can honestly say that Phish plays for their phans… The interactions with the crowds, the volleys, the changing setlists every single night. Even talking with the band members, they aren’t on pedestals. I have not seen another band that gives back as much to their phan base… From multi-show chess games of band vs. fans, to giant playgrounds for adults on psychadellics at their festivals, to “Language Lessons” a group of over 80 musical cues that would trigger the audience to do something, I doubt you could find another band that interacts so much with their phans…

In other news… a 5 Ton rosin press arrives this week  And picked up a “Tobor Bazooka” for smoking said rosin

Is there a statue of limitations on calling out a pedo trying to do pedo shit? That would be like telling me to give it a rest on calling out someone for beating a woman just cause it was 20 years ago when they beat that woman

I think there is when he was cleared of all charges and no formal charges filed?? I mean, don’t you think the Hells Angels would have doled out their own justice, more so than the prison system?

The thing I read said they did tool him up a bit before police arrived. According to the article I read he thankfully didn’t have time to do whatever he had planned before getting caught so it would be hard to charge him, specially if the Hells Angels threw him a groin party as the article suggested. I do wonder why no assault charges were filed against the bikers though either? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
