Hello OG
Hope all is well and everyone is doing great.
I’m a bit confused on how exactly I should be using this product.
If anyone has some knowledge and don’t mind me picking your brain a bit that would be amazing.
Thanks in advance
Instructions are on the site buddy.
Instructions
Separate the plants you plan to reverse (donors) from the plants you plan to pollinate (receivers). The reversal plants will perform best if they are multi-topped plants as opposed to single top plants. It is best to prepare ahead and pinch the tops to facilitate this process.
For commercial seed production you will want a ratio of approximately 1:4 donor plant to receiver plants. in other words if you have 12 plants to start with you will want to reverse 3 of them.
*Although it’s possible to reverse a single branch and try to pollinate other branches from the same plant, it’s not the recommended method since the timing of pollination compared to the formation of the plant’s reproductive structures may not be ideal.
Schedule
- -You must start the flowering and STS reversal spray regimen on the chosen reversal plants between 14 – 21 days before you flower the seed mothers. This timing ensures you get maximum pollen production around the time the female plant is in her reproductive prime. .
- -The spraying process begins the day before you switch the reversal plant(s) to flower. This should be done soon after the lights go off or soon after dusk for outdoor plants. Spray the nodal areas, and branches and tops. It is not necessary to spray the entire plant and all of the leaves. A fine mist will do but be sure to get an adequate coating. For photoperiod cultivars, start the spraying process on the first day of flowering for your “donor” plant. For autoflower cultivars, spray as soon as the first signs of reproductive growth are visible. Spray the plant every other day for a total of 4 sprays. It’s very important not to expose the plants to STS after the flowers start to form. Be patient, sometimes it’s difficult to see the pollen sacs forming in the flower. Typically it will be quite obvious between day 17-24. Be prepared to start flowering your “receiver” plants about 14-18 days after you started the reversal process. (See footnote 1)
- -Wait to pollinate female plants until the flowers are about the size of a thumbnail, usually about 15-20 days.
- **Reversed female plants do not produce as much pollen as male plants so it is important to take a few steps to insure proper pollination.
- -Always provide adequate airflow to the cultivation area with fans.
- -Healthy plants = healthy, abundant pollen. Don’t neglect your reversals and treat them like second class citizens. It’s important to provide them with the best conditions possible.
- -Agitate the reversed plants daily by shaking them gently in front of fans
- -Keep the humidity as low as possible; this will increase the amount of airborne pollen. This also helps minimize mold, which can be more prevalent in reversed female flowers.
- -If particular reversed plants tend to produce more pollen be sure to shift them around the cultivation area
- -You should see signs of successful pollination within a few days of joining the plants. Be patient, the process is much slower and less effective than breeding with males.
I have read the instructions already but like I mentioned a bit confused and just want to make sure I’m understanding correctly.
Can I self just one fem/photo plant? In a tent?
Or once I spray the fem/photo do I still need to add a second plant/ fem/photo in there also?
Sorry for the noob question but my stoner brain is not comprehending the instructions
Ahhh sorry. You can spray a single branch. Let it change and pollinate the other branches to create seeds. A tip. Tie a ribbon or similar to the branch your gonna spray as that branch will need binned once you see seeds forming.
Ty @Esrgood4u
So for example I have one fem/photo plant can I just spray the whole plant as in all branches following instructions and once the plant pollinates I should have seeds pretty much coming from all the branches I sprayed correct?
Or is there no need to spray the whole plant maybe just a branch or two and once they create the pollen they will pretty much spread to the other not sprayed branches?
Also
Once I do spray either one branch or the whole plant it will pollinate and pretty much create seeds correct?
Just let the plant run in flower as if it were a regular grow?
Example
If the strain flowers for 9 weeks
Do I run the sprayed plant for 9 weeks flower?
No. Select a single branch. Spray that branch. Try to avoid over spray. Let that branch turn. It’ll pollinate the remainder of the plant.
Sweet
Ok I’m comprehending now
It’s a pain stopping over spray. The branch you reverse is no longer of any use once it dumps pollen. The remaining plant should hopefully be full of seeds that are feminised and viable.
I seen a video mendocino20 put out on YouTube and he sprayed the whole plant.
I’m assuming he is or will be trying to pollinate a couple of plants .
He’s doing the entire flower room. Buddy people that sell seeds will try and limit us creating seeds. More so from their own strains. I know if I sold seeds I’d not like someone reproducing them.
What if you get a better pheno than he has and you create a better strain.
Sounds about right.
Sounds about like what I’m about to do
Well actually a growmie of mine coyote Cody found an amazing feno in some fem seeds he purchased of a strain named midnight snack.
Every time I spoke with him he was running back his midnight snack over and over again.
I was fortunate enough to receive some seeds from him.
I ended up growing them out 2 months ago or so and the feno is amazing.
Beautiful purple icy buds.
So now I want to self this strain myself it’s so fire.
I’ve got faith in you. You’ll manage your goal. Take your time is the best advice I can give you. You’ve got this.
Ty so much @Esrgood4u for all the great information and most off all the break down on the steps I should take.
Really quick
So do I run the plant as usual in flower.
Let her run the whole 9 weeks and then chop.
Or do I chop when the seeds look ready?
Yes, run the plant it’s full recommended flowering time… if not a bit longer. Your looking for a maximum of ripened seeds, take too early and the ratio of immature seed increases.
On your friends cut… you should try to get a clone from that specific plant.
Unless he’s popping new beans from the pack each grow. And if they all seem the same you can chalk that up to the breeder putting in the work looking for uniformity in the product.
He actually did what I am trying to attempt.
He found that great feno and selfed it.
Now I’m not to informed yet on making seeds at all and how genetics end up but so far every seed he or others have popped has been a purple feno.
Not its twin but damn near.
I’m assuming that even though he selfed that amazing feno that does not mean every seed will be identical to the plant correct?
That I’m not sure if he still has the original feno though.
I just send him a message yesterday and still have not heard back from him
Btw thank you so much for the breakdown @GCBudz
Very much appreciated
The seeds will be close but not all identical. Cannabis has 16 chromosome pairs so while they’ll all be similar and there’ll be some that are identical, there’ll be oddities as well. that’s all up to the genetic lottery.
Rasta Jeff(Irie Genetics) recommends that after you pollinate switch to an 18/6 light sch with the same light intensity for the rest of grow. Says plants will finish quicker and have fatter seeds. Since you’re growing for seed a reveg isn’t a concern.
With that said I cannot speak on this with any experience but makes sense to me.
Good luck brother! I hope to see some photos of seeds in a couple months
Ty @joheimgrohen
Great information and totally makes sense.
Very much appreciated for all you fines folks is advice.
Thank you
Ty @CaptainRon
I will definitely keep you guys posted I have about 9 weeks to go or so until I start this project so definitely more to come.
Let’s see what happens
Mendo’s is how I did my first 2 flips(reversals? whatever), while they were successful, in that I got some seeds, they weren’t SUCCESSFUL seed runs. My last selfing/ seed run threw out approximately 9800 beans over 4 girls, using a “Google” found STS recipe. Bought the chems and bottles off etsy and eBay for about the same cost as 2 of Mendo’s kits, and I won’t run out for years.
Oh and I only flipped 2 branches kinda documented over on my “ongrowing madness” thread, post 300… ish?
