I just removed it thanks
But is it now not water tight?
I will shake and find out. Lol thank.you
LOL I was waiting for 185 CELCIUS thinking. Something isn’t right here hahaha.
I’ll see if I can add another cloth to stabilize it
EDIT /update
Alright it’s already 5:30 Pm and the wife doesnt know I’m making a mess in the kitchen and she’s home from work in 30 minutes… . The crock pot still isn’t heated up yet. And I want to be in bed early hahah so i have to pull the plug. It won’t be pretty trying to boil this for 4 hours lol I’m already falling asleep.
I’ll leave this batch for a cold Infusion and shake.shake shake and freeze and shake shake shake freeze .
But will be doing a warm bath infusion next.
Thanks all
Double edit
Just checked water temp …still not at 185 … This pansy ass crock pot mann!!!
I just said screw it an tossed it in the pot now at 120F…il leave it there for a few hours …meh
Almost 45 min and crockpot hasn’t gone past 125f…left it on warm while I went out and just checked.it hit 130 so it should get to 180 on high.
Someone linked me to to a COLD WASH MCT oil recipe I thought…I can’t find it now… It was a super easy 15 minute recipe.
I think I found one with the ever clear… I also thought they’re was a MCT oil 15 minute 45 minute total recipe.
Getting there !
3.45 hours
Letting cool now
I couldnt get a stable temp. I had it on low for the last hour and half and I checked last it was 188
Lool I cooked the colour out of it !!!
Much better !!!
This can’t be said often enough. I use his cold extraction technique all the time for reliable, clean results. My favorite thing these days is infusing sugar. Quick hitting precise dosing.
I’ve been doing this too. I call it Sugar High.
Tincture is really popular right now, especially medical grade. Can’t buy it at the store! Nobody knows it’s made from a bud you would toss in the garbage bin! The ultimate method of reclaiming waste products.
@FreeAtLast @BCC can you guys elaborate on what you mean about infusing sugar? Do you mean dropping it on sugar cubes more or less?
Also @ReikoX I’ve got my first one oz batch of decarboxylated GDP, if the recipe calls for reduction to 2oz per 7 grams would I be able to do all 28 grams with 8oz of alcohol in one quart size jar? Thanks a ton for your guide!
@NeverBullSeeds made some and gave me a vial GD he made and I’d use it to get body stoned, I let an older Mexican immigrant at work try it and it killed his pain in his leg for work so I gave him what I had left. The GDP is supposed to have terps that’ll help with sleep and our boss at work wanted something that’ll help with sleep. This is my very first try at making actual legit medicine with cannabis and I wanna get it right
My process is that I make an alcohol-based tincture, add it to white sugar, and cook it to the “hard crack” stage. Google “sugar stages by temperature,” if you are not familiar. After it cools, I grind it in a clean coffee grinder.
You have to use some extra care when cooking the sugar, because if it burns it will taste terrible. And if you get any hot sugar on your skin, you will get a very nasty burn.
Uhh, hard crack is 300-310F, which is the temperature cannabinoids start being destroyed at. You should be cooking to hard crack and stirring in the tincture at the end, or you’re going to negatively effect the potency of the end product.
Short answer, no you will not be able to use 8 ounces of alcohol and 28 grams of cannabis to make the tincture in a single quart sized jar.
The recipe calls for 6 ounces per 7 grams. About 2 ounces gets absorbed by the cannabis, leaving you with 4 ounces of tincture. That is reduced to 2 ounces by evaporating the tincture over a double boiler.
So, you will need to use a total of 24 ounces of ethanol for the full 28 grams oc cannabis. So likely you can break this up into two quart sized jars.
You will likely end up with 16 ounces of tincture after you strain it. Reduce that by half until you end up with 8 ounces of tincture. A single dose is roughly 0.5-1.0 ml, so that 8 ounces will be at least 480 doses.
This is the sugar transfer I use, no need to get it anywhere near hard crack stage.
I’m actually not 100% sure I took it to hard crack stage. The first time I made it, I was actually trying to make caramel and accidentally forgot to add butter. As long as the cooked sugar gets hard enough to grind once it cools, you are good. Obviously, you can’t grind caramel up.
The mixture does not spend much time a high temperature. I make a lot of tinctures, baked goods, caramels, etc. In comparison, the potency of the sugar/tincture processed this way is excellent. When I’m baking/cooking with tincture, I use a tincture that is only partly decarbed, which might make the difference.
Also, I don’t think that cannabis mixed into something degrades at the same speed as say a dab. Otherwise, cannabis brownies would not work since they bake at 350 or higher.
The beauty of it is the alcohol will not dissolve the sugar. You could do it with a fan and some patience if you really wanted.
Well, sugar work is slightly different than baking, as someone who used to bake for a living. The internal temp of your brownies in that 350 degree oven isn’t going to reach more than 212, maybe 220 at most. Sugar cooks past the vapor point of water and can get pretty much as hot as it wants before burning, no thermal shedding from evaporation like baked goods. Using a partially decarbed tincture is probably helping preserve your cannabinoids, I’m glad the process works for you!
I misunderstood the reduction part of the process then, I was taking it as if you wanted it stronger to use less alcohol, I understand now and will probably go the route of two larger jars and 14 grams each. Thank you!! Will post pics when I get around to doing it
For you who are infusing in sugar, is that to make it more palatable, or for some other purpose?
I’ve been using 56g (2oz) of decarbed trim or bud in 500ml (17oz) of grain alcohol. We can’t easily get 190 proof, so I have to get someone who’s going to the next state to pick some up! I mix 150 and 190 1/2 and 1/2, stick it in the freezer for a month or so, with an occasional shake. Usually get 300-350 ml back. Obviously, if you want it strong, use bud, but good trim works alright!
I use infused sugar for all kinds of things. From simply using it in my coffee to making sugar cookies, I even thought about using it to make an infused cotton candy.
I do mine a bit different- much less alcohol than 6 Oz per 7g of flower. Each batch I do- 50 g of flower, fits in a quart jar and between both the initial pull and the second wash, I probably use between 3/4 and a full 750 ml bottle of alcohol. So more like 3.5 Oz alcohol per 7g. So point being- Reiko uses a lot more and probably gets a more efficient extraction. I use less, still get fine results, and can definitively tell you it’ll still turn out good using around 1/2 the recommended amount of everclear.
If you do, I hope you post it… it could put a whole spin on going to the state fair, lol!
Did someone say infused cotton candy…? Although maybe not the best idea with two kids running around
Don’t you need a license for that, lol?
I am trying to figure out how to get the most bang for my buck. I have some CBD plants that are ready to be harvested. Ideally I would like to infuse some coconut oil to give instant relief under the tongue, edibles otherwise. Not to interested in vaping, rather save my lungs. I have a neurological condition where my skin feels like it has Shingles. Back in the day I got a bottle of oil and found the CBD helped.
It is going to get cold out, -25 to -30, I was thinking of freezing the flower and doing a dry sift of sorts. Then use the material and do a ice water run. After that bake it to get the water out and decarb then cook it in oil to make some edibles. The material is not really frosty and is more like tobacco, that sucks but it has low THC. At some point I would like to do a alcohol wash and then steam off the alcohol and recover it with a length of copper chilled by the chilly air.
Wondering what people with experience think about this?
