Octopot Grow System

I know @ShiskaberrySavior ran them outdoor

The reservoir may get hot I believe it’s best to cover with some kind of insulation

they run fine outdoors. You have to take a pie tin and put it over the top of the Octopot sleeves so that the rain doesn’t go down into the soil otherwise it’s just fine.

That’s a great idea :bulb: brother

I’d covered my res when the temps were in the 90 degree range thinking the heat raising the water temperature would cause issues .

I don’t think it was necessary but do agree covering the top for rain definitely is a great idea.

Yeah mine are doing great outside. I didn’t cover the tops with anything yet, but I did fold the sleeve to cover it all.

Main ingress is where the bag sits on top of the res. Mine had a decent gap, sometimes around the whole the whole circumference of the pot. I used heavy duty duct tape to close it off and it’s been working great for a few weeks. No issues here so far.

Nice, what are you PH ing your water at…

Can anyone chime in on the bags? Are the standard ones good enough or are any of the upgrades worth it?

I’ve been using these Rain Science auto bags for my 6gal octos, work just as well and more durable, easier to clean IMO. YMMV. :green_heart:

When you buy from the Octopot people just buy the standard bags
After a few grows you can up grade to any fabric bags or air pot you like

And for Pete sake s don’t buy there dome it’s just a clear plastic bag and two pieces if wire

I think the Octo sleeves kind of suck, or I’m doing something wrong. Trying to fight the root ball out of the net pot and sleeve is tough I just said f it and cut the Octo sleeves to get the net pot lids out. I like the idea of rigging a heavier fabric bag, airpot, or rain science bag. I’m on the last of my octosleeves now I’ve got 4-5 weeks to look into that

I’ll second the domes are a waste of money

I don’t remember exactly what the problem was I’ve only finished one run with my octopots. I just remember something about it sucked and I cut the bags to get the Netpot out. Roots growing through the bag or something I don’t recall I’ll give it another go this next harvest I suppose. Do you let them dry out before removing the soil and root ball?

First time using an octopot. First pic is from November 8th. Second is from today (November 20th).

Strain is Mango Smile (auto) from Mephisto Genetics. Popped October 15th. Transferred from solo cup to the six gallon octopot after maybe two weeks.

Growing medium is Sunshine #4 with some added perlite.

Watered straight down the transfer hole before transplanting. Been using megacrop 2 part for feeding. Probably 1/4 - 1/3 strength of recommended strength but not sure as I’m not big on exact measurements. Added a couple pinches of Epsom salt and a dash of silica today. Tap water, no idea what the pH is.

Really gonna see how idiot proof this thing is. Seems to be doing well so far.

Nice! Id definately be checking that PH at the next top off! Im only on my 3rd run, so i still dont know a ton. I do know PH ranges are super important to prevent and/or treat deficiencies and issues!
