Old School Heady Glass Appreciation Thread

Bunch of peer pressure over here :joy: You guys ever see tako glass? I used to have a chillum just like this back in the day

I can’t seem to find anyone else making fumed pieces like this dude is but it’s my favorite style.

To be a bit more on topic, I’ve been the keeper of this girl for the last 20 years or so.

She’s older than I am :eyes: well over 40 years old. Old school double blown. Suffered the break at the top there before I got her but that same tape has amazingly held up this entire time.

Oh nice dude! I totally missed you posting that while I was skimming the thread. She looks amazing and thick AF! She end up smoking as good as she looks?

Not glass but real old schoolie here- just made a steamroller-style nectar collector out of white mulberry wood I’ve been drying for a few years after cutting some branches in the yard. Primary use is for tool and knife handles but I figured why not try making a couple pipes? Next up is a Moroccan kif-style pipe as soon as I can find a thin drill bit long enough and use my friend’s drill press, though I might try doing it the traditional way, by burning it out. In my case with a stainless steel bicycle spoke, a homemade jig to keep everything tracking straight, and a propane torch to keep the spoke heated, I might try adding a heatsink of some bolts wired around it to keep the operating temp up.

Hand sanded, finished with food-grade toasted walnut oil and local beeswax, torched in to sink it. The titanium banger is from an original borosilicate Nectar Collector V2 my friend broke at my apartment many years ago. I didn’t pick a good piece and it had a few cracks that reach the bore, so I sealed those up with some Titebond II wood glue, since this is just a vape with all the heat concentrated up in the banger and not a bowl for combustion. It’s FDA approved food-safe for indirect contact when cured and the recommended thing for gluing up cutting boards, so I figure that’s fine, I’ll pick a better blank next time.

Hammering 500,000 times!? The process of making a Japanese smoking pipe / kiseru.

This reminds me alot of me making the best tin foil pipe possible back in 10th grade haha

You gotta twist the foil around a pen and roll it on the floor to compress the foil and give it a couple pinches so the hot smoke cools off 🫣

I eventually graduated to stolen chemistry class glass, I’ve never splurged on fancy glass, but I had a roor or two. I think the old-school ones with the rubber grommet were superior.
