I am smoking less (and enjoying it more) so I don’t need to gow as much. Really, I could grow every 3 years and probably have enough to give away. I’m going to try using the Food Saver I got recently and see how that works for storing.

Report back, please  I would love to know how this works out. I have this planned as well, but recently started pressing, so thats helping me preserve my extra at the moment.

The food saver works just fine for storage. Make many smaller packages instead of one big one. This way you don’t have to keep opening and sealing your stash. Keep it in the freezer and it will last a long time and stay fresh.

Thanks for the tip. Wish I had thought of this 10 years ago when i had original cut Blue Dream and the original Sour Diesel. Oh well, Humboldt Sour D is fine weed and crossed with a female Durban Poison makes for a humungous plant which I’, hoping to stablise.

Don’t vacuum it to hard or it will crush your bud, all you need is a good seal lightly vacuumed.

Cool. This “sealer” has a setting called “Pulse” for soft items. Guess that’s the one to use. I’ll be experimenting tomorrow.

Just make sure you get all the air out before sealing . I’ve vacuum sealed for years now works excellent.

On my Foodsaver, the “seal” button overrides the vacuum, holding vacuum at whatever state you have it and seals it up. Mine’s >10 years old but I’d assume yours will do the same.

How did you have it stored?

We grew and smoked 3 year old jar cured, stored in the dark, and had lost all its green color, smelled and tasted much milder than when young. Stayed just right moisture-wise and was still at least 3/4 strength of what we remembered. All considered it was surprisingly pleasant. It was high school last time I smoked brown weed 40 yrs ago LOL.

The oldest weed tested (2700-year-old cannabis samples) had reverted to pure CBN and CBL. Those are the broken down final stage of ripened THC and CBC.

Unless you freeze it THC will break down into CBN at the rate of about 10% a year. CBN will put you to sleep. For that reason I keep some old weed around as a sleep aid. Not much of a high to it. Similarly CBC (not common in modern strains) will break down into CBL. Too much CBL is a bad thing. At least in some tests on rabbits. CBD will break down if exposed to light (especially UV light) or heat.

More like in a freezer bag and thrown in a bottom drawer lol

As long as its cured and stored correctly ive smoked bud from 2-3 years old with no issues, maybe a slightly harsher taste but good nonetheless.

You’re right, the taste changes.
That old Pineapple Chunk I have is OK if I vape it, but absolutely foul to smoke.

It works great, but - I have two size bags, both bigger than I’d like. I’d like a bag just big enough to fit maybe a quarter Z. The problem may be the larger size is needed to do the suction. If anybody knows of such things lemme know.

Just a tip, if your using Food Saver, their rolls are very expensive. You can get them on Uline, for twice the money.
They offer a Jumbo Roll, of the narrow and wide sizes. Just as thick, as FS’s are, just cheaper.
Their S-19139- 8" x 50’ roll for $18.00 and S-19140 - 11.5" x 50’ roll for $23.00
One of the rolls had a few wrinkles as you unrolled, but it sealed up perfectly fine.

The bags that come with the Food Saver work pretty good (so far) but the smaller ones with the circle that are reusable, not so good. After a few days air’s back in them. Maybe just the way i did it, but I won’t risk anything special in the small bags.
Another problem is making my own smaller bags. Bags need to be large enough to be in the suction thing-a-m-jig and over the heat sealer with enough bag to be able to close the machine completely. So, little bags to hold like a 1/4 no good.
So i have mixed feelings.

the other day smoked some Humboldt Sour D from 2018. De-LIGHT-ful!
I hang em trimmed. When the branches (little ones) are very close to breaking, cut the buds, put in a clear jar, Burp once or twice - sometimes not at all, store in a small closet size space that stays cool and dark.
