OldFatBiker grows fatter

I just read through this whole journal. Your skills are definitely improving. Good job.
Pulling up a chair.
I started off using FF nutes when I started growing, but eventually switched to something else, because I don’t like checking pH.
I will say, though, if you are using the FF 3 part, along with their CalMag……

This is another product you should include in your arsenal.
Anytime I was having issues with a plant, that I couldn’t figure out, this stuff would usually fix it.

Thanks for looking the journal over. I appreciate the feedback!

This week has shown much change. Looks like the flowering sites continue to develop. Here’s a sample:

Maybe it’s just me….but….
Before the nutrients and pH corrections, it took a good 4 days for the plants to take up the water, and I had to be careful not to over-water. Now, I give the plants a quart of “water” and it’s gone within 2 days. I know there can be some evaporation, but my RH levels have been averaging 50% to 60%. Admittedly, I kept the RH around 70% during the veg, so there would be less evaporation. I’m keeping the humidity lower for flowering. I’m not running a dehumidifier.

And any advice on pruning to prevent but rot/mold would be much appreciated.

I get rid of all fan leaves that have a stem longer than 1.5 inches at about the 2 week mark. What do you expect your humidity to be running in flower?

I do some pretty heavy defoliation. I go through and open up as many bud sights as I can then trim off the bud sights that won’t get light without cutting bigger limbs.

The other thing you could do is tie down some of the branches to open space for air flow.

Here is a loooong answer about the humidity.

My temperature and humidity levels have varied according to the chart below for the past week. Light comes on at 8am local and goes off at 8pm local. The days of the week are off by one day (bug in @VIVOSUN app?). Thursday is really Friday, etc. I watered and fed on Tuesday (you can see the dip in the temperature on “Monday”) and then humidity levels increased due to the presence of the water. Prior to that I wasn’t as attentive (critical house projects) and the plants were a bit wilted. With that watering/feeding, they bounced back, which can be seen on the Oct 29 post. If I keep consistent with watering, RH should stay between 55% and 70%. I have my exhaust fan set to ramp up if RH goes above 55%. Over the past few days, the outside temps have been higher than they were over this past weekend, but not high enough to run A/C. So the incoming air has had a bit more moisture. Depending on the weather, I may see RH down in the 40’s over the next week. If we have a “normal” fall, RH will come down even more, but I won’t hold my breath. The weather has been anything but “normal.”

Right on.

Well my humidity levels are in line with yours. If central air or heat are kicking on, I run from 50-60% rh. Like you said with no air/heat ill get up in the 70s at times, especially first thing when lights go on. I don’t have the monitoring like you do, but I try to open the tent in the morning and take a look.

In general I have no fear of mold/pm, and I’ve never had it :crossed_fingers:. Now when RH gets up over 65-70, I do get a little nervous and kick on the dehumidifier that’s in the basement/lung room to bring the room RH down to like 55 if I can.

The longer I grow, the more defoliation I seem to do, but it’s a little bit of a contraversial topic.

good learning experience brother. i think if youre unlucky you might experience some plants hittin lights but i think this is the right path for you.

i hope they turn out dank. maybe consider some late game lst now, just incase they want to get a lil taller while flowering.

one love.

Inky (far left) has stretched a bit. I thought it might have been because she’s in a larger pot. However, Pinky (far right) is in the same size pot and has not stretched to that extent. This pic was from last Friday. Now, Inky is about to touch the light. Blinky (center, back) was put in a 1 gal fabric pot on 25-Sep. She did not stretch like Inky and is pretty even with Pinky.

I have some Jute twine, so I might be able to tie down some of the upper branches and reduce the height a bit. I watered today, so I don’t want to make any adjustments until things dry out a bit, per advice from @Mr.Christmas.

Plus I have a lot of room above to raise the light, so that will be on the list for tomorrow to keep them from burning. Then I can train to get the heights even and get better position of the light.

It’s like celery (if you’ve ever heard of that stuff), or so I’ve been told.

The type of training you’re speaking of is often referred to as Low Stress Training, or LST for short. You’ll see people refer to LST often in their diaries here.

Excellent call reducing the soil in their pots. That light is working perfectly for you. Are you by chance rotating the plants throughout the day so the sides that aren’t receiving full light get a chance to?

I highly recommend you snip from here down:

The Golden Shower’s is very dominant, including it’s morphology. It’s a very low yielding plant, but it’s flavor and affect well make up for it. Even with cutting from the line I’ve drawn downard, you’ll still end up with some airier type bud.

Here’s the cured top cola of Donna (a sibling to the plants you’re growing). It has the bad breath aspect I was hoping for in the Mo Lune Day matched evenly with the Mango Melon Citrus of the Golden Showers:

This was the plant it came from:

Blue is where I defoliated, but is red is where I will defoliate to next time. I recommend you defoliate your lateral branches to the same point after you’ve defoliated to the lines I’ve drawn on your image.

These are all recommendations, of course.

By the way, this is a picture of Emily (the Mo Lune Day mother that we’ve sampled where these seeds came from):

Got to some trimming today. Thanks for the tips!

I followed along with this and removed the “hidden” bud sites.

I got as close as I could. I left some of the longer branches that start low but have bud sites near the top and thinned along those branches as I saw fit.

I did this, too.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I’ll continue shepherding them along. They should be ready to harvest at year end assuming a 10 week flower period. Once I start to see real buds forming, I’ll post more pictures.

This is the beginning of week 6 of flowering. Here are some photos.

So hopefully, they are flowering ok. I’d feel more comfortable if there were bud that seems more sizable. Maybe it’s the strain? Not feeding them enough? I don’t want to overdo it. They are getting 1 quart of water + nutrients two to three times per week. I’m letting the soil dry out between waterings.

I’ve been told this is a solid 10 week flowering period. Maybe it will take a bit longer. I’m maxed out on light. I’m giving her all she’s got!

On the flip side, I’m encouraged to see trichomes and getting a decent aroma. I’m also seeing the flowers grow in size, slowly. So it seems something’s working. I’ll hold steady and keep it going.

Not sure if I will post again before Thanksgiving. So if not, everyone have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
