One plant one light, been using this tech for almost 10 years

Hey outlaw, I am totally in love with your system!
I’ve not been really excited with hydro since I was following, and building a krusty Bucket system, back in early 2003-4ish.
I have a bunch of my pics from back then.
I ran it a couple of years, but all the damned noise from a Thomas air pump running 24/7 finally got to us. The suprise hydro pissing everywhere got old, pulling 35’ of roots from the drain line that wento to sunken resy, also sucked.
I learned so much from that time, however all the other hydro ways were just hohum to me after that. They were all kind of boring if you will.
When I first joined OG in 2000, when we could wander through members photo albums, if they had them set up so. But one member, williams wonder, had a system a bit like yours, using a pair totes if I remember correctly, sorry I’m an old guy now.
But he always had to tie up his buds due to their large size. He would never answer my questions about it, so I never tried to build one.
And Krusty came along and turned hydro upside down to me anyway. He simply combined a few different systems, and the results were amazing.
Anyway, I’m sourcing the materials now, to build 2 set ups that is your design, if that is ok with you.
I like to copy but will always give the OP their dues! Outlaw’s stacked hydro unit.
Great work man!!

It is a simple ebb and flow system, 2x2 tray with 20 gallon reservoir. If you put a net pot around your bulkhead fittings you should never have any water to clean up. If your roots are following the drain, increase watering cycle. Medium i use hydroton in channels of tray for water flow, a small layer of rockwool to hold moisture (also is a little more forgiving if a pump does go out) and promix or sunshine #4 to fill the rest of tray.

And other than that train the plant to grow low and wide before flower initiation and you will have a beast of a plant to harvest.

Hope this helps, happy to answer any questions!

Hey outlaw, couple of questions before I go purchase my items.
1st, what size of pump are you using (in the resy) to flood the pop up valve, in the tray? I believe the ones I have (pop up valve) in my failed dreams pile of parts, can be set to different fill levels, if I read your post properly, the fluid just needs to get to the crouton level and wick from there.
2nd,what type of filter, a camping water filter, an ice maker filter, aquarium type filter?
Then is the filter plumbed to filter return juice, going to chiller, or simply filtered and returned to resy?
Thank you once again for sharing this with us.
Damn, I’m excited to copy your system!!

 i use active aqua or eco pump 250 gph for fill and chiller, i remove the filter for my fill. After years of doing this I’ve had more problems with filters than with out. On the res chiller if you choose to use one i leave filter on. Basic botanicare bulkhead fittings for ebb and flow with a net pot like for aquatic plants or deep water culture to place over ebb and flow fittings to keep the debris from clogging drain and causing tray to over flow.
One piece of advice when you start your tray water first time heavily and not again until dry, this will get your root system to grow out and fill the tray faster and the root structure will hold your media in place. Over watering will substantially slow this process.

Hope i answered your question

Look forward to seeing you kill it!

Hey Outlaw, a huge Thank You for your most kind offer, and the helpful insights. I got a list and and checking it off.
I sort of guessed about filtering going into chiller only, to stop root bits from clogging the system. I will be running a chiller per pair of The Outlaw’s I set up. Thank you again man.

Dude so excited to get someone else’s perspective, we should be able to improve the tech. We all learn through each other and i am looking forward to your project, we will learn from each other for sure. I’m dying to get back to big plants, did some seed runs so running numbers through Xmas and I’ll be back on board. That tray you got is sweet i like that it has a slight taper to it and the lip on the edge, early on i used to put foil over the top of the medium, the roots would grow on the surface like mycelium. Let that tray fill out with roots and you will unleash the beast!
Really interested in the organics on the second, I’ve used mycos and teas in conjunction with my normal feeding schedule. So definitely room for improvement! Thanks for linking me really excited. I get so much more involved and obsessed with the big plants, the training and growth structure and of course the flowers. Im adhd as possible but with one tray one plant really gives you perspective on what that plant is liking, how much water they are using, more control and better understanding of each plants needs and qualitys. And the rockwool is a excellent amendment to your out door beds as it adds air and holds moisture for those hot days outside. What type of genetics are you planning on running?

Tangie tastes great but it will pop bananas 5/6 th week flower and if you dont chop it early enough it will have premature seeds, then it makes great extracts! I quit running it atm. Got my seeds from Crocket family farm, probably a better one out there…
Edit, not saying Crockett isnt the place to get them, they definitely have rep!

I find the rockwool helps strains about anything from returning to reservoir, rarely do i end up with anything in rez unless i have a overfill and it makes it through net pot into res. With the chiller if your humidity is high your going to get condensation on outside and water on the floor. That foil bubble wrap they line boxes of food with works great and usually free, otherwise symple foam insulation panels will stop this.

Better late than never, i yielded about 24 oz of top shelf bud and probably another lb in popcorn bud makes great dry ice hash and rosin etc

Im 43 and i as well have built my own systems, tried about every system out there, got all my gear at cost running hydro shop so did lots of test gardens and all are 100% capable of working great it just takes time to dial it in and an occasional disater, but you learn how to correct it and improve it. Its like anything if it works for you take it to the next level. I’d really like to eliminate my pump and do a wicking system to elimate on possible catastrophic failure. Really have to check it every day, cause that one time you don’t that bastard murphy comes along and teaches me a lesson.

If you fo way back in this thread the tangie yoj can see how im pulling branches down and pushing lateral growth, at that point i weave the branches through trellis and prune the downward growing branches. Lollipop the shit out of your lower branches untill they grow out to fill in your canopy

I love the terp profile for sure! Thank you, blaze on bud! Tangie rosin was phenomenal. Think if i chopped her about 9 days earlier probably wouldnt be an issue. Too many seeds, so little time

I just read through this whole thread and I’m absolutely amazed. Great job on everything Outlaw. Good to see fellow Colorado Growers doing big things. Can’t wait until I find something that works for me .

this is my current grow.

What is a ‘res chiller’…?

Great grow.
