Let’s not forget that it’s the participants posting and participating that keep the place breathing. If everyone becomes a supporter or joins the patron but never posts, never helps another grower by answering their questions or never joins in any discussions then the place is dead anyway. I hope we don’t move any further in that direction.
The benefits of OG to me for every member is simple. You will get better advice here than you will in most Hydro Shops. OG is your mentor to help you along the way to whatever extent that maybe for each grower. Some guys are really pushing limits and others grasping the basics. But no matter what time of day or night some one is here to help you along your journey. They actually want to see you succeed and continue along your journey in gardening. This is what it takes to be successful on whatever level your on. So help out the new guy struggling with the basics and maybe a little encouragement. Tip your hat to the person that helped you. And then remember the last time you got all that for free … Joe will leave the lights on for you !!! Cheers everyone !!!
Time is the most valuable commodity of them all
I can’t see that being a thing really. Why would someone stop posting if they started paying $3 a month to support the place?
2 is a particularly fun suggestion. Overgrow strains gotta overgrow the world. Even better if it was a solid source of old school genetics
And yet we never seem to run out of now. It’s an enigma wrapped in a conundrum drenched in a nice vinaigrette.
The truth is. For example, there is no such thing as “time” it’s a refence and as people we have memories.
2 molecules frozen at 0 kelvin next to each other have no time.
Wouldnt radioactive molocules experience a degradation half - life ? Which would be expected in a reliable time frame, even at 0 Kelvin?
There’s a difference between philosophical time and actual time as in spacetime or the theory of relativity. Also there is no perfect vacuum do to quantum fluctuations…gravitational waves are another form of energy that doesn’t strongly interact with “space.”
I, being fairy new to OG cant remember ,dont mind $5 a month to support OG and hopefully folks feel good enough about everything to see how supporting makes best sense always, together we can.
I don’t think the place would come to a grinding halt, but if someone feels like they’ve “given” already then they won’t feel the need to give in other ways like giving advice or helping others. And conversely those *not giving to the site financially might feel they are less welcome and not post as much (eg me). We’ve already seen talk of photo upload limits and bandwidth, I don’t think I’ve seen bandwidth cited as the reason for anything since the late 90s Yahoo board days. You only have to look at what is “liked” or not by the establishment to see that money seems to be their main focus. Also makes me wonder if in future someone starts stepping out of line would the financial loss of booting a supporter potentially sway that decision.
Sounds like you don’t understand how websites work. You can pay five dollars a month for hosting if you don’t have any users. The reason you haven’t heard about this is because most people interact on “platforms” now with nearly infinite server space and bandwidth.
I don’t recall mentioning bandwidth. Please quote me.
I still follow the post but i don’t think i saw somewhere the number of members that OG have.
Can be useful to gauge what kind of critical mass we are talking about …
Over 11k total. That’s just members and not visitors.
( Goes to Community dinner. Brings no food or dish. Fulfills everyone there with knowledgeable advice. Eats dinner , goes home.)
Lmao HP ^^
Now we’re talking. Thx for the intel, it’s changing the equation. Most of options I’ve listed aren’t coherent with such traffic even if the sedentar/popular ones are quite high grade imho. I was overestimating it at a floating ~50K with the trades-only accounts included.
I’ve to re-think the whole thread with this in mind now ^^ See you in a century lol
You’ve completely missed my points mate.
Bandwidth was mentioned in this thread.
Ok, I’m out, you guys do what you want, as I’m sure you will and should. I’m not going to alienate myself here more than I already have.
I think you’ve missed the point of the post you’re quoting.
The mention of bandwidth in that post is talking about bandwidth for the user, not for the site. LJ is explaining a reason why certain site infrastructure decisions are made including how it helps users who have a limit to the bandwidth available to them.
