So just fed the plants and I have to think the light intensity was a big issue. It’s been 24 hours since the change and here they are. Could just be my wishful thinking but I swear they seem to be responding better. Don’t get me wrong, they are not perfect, but those leaves are defiantly picking themselves up off each other. Go PPP.
My afghans looked really similar droopy when they were that age. They perk up.
These were under hlgs as well
Nice. The light is the only thing I could think of as it’s the only thing that changed. They were fine in the other tent. My HLG is 600 watts and the Mars was only 150. I am sure they will get acclimatized to the intensity as I turn it up over time. Just happy to see them pick up a bit. What can I say, concerned parent
Mine started off looking normal and then turned to that as the leafs got bigger.
It could definitely have just been the timing of the move and as such just a coincidence. Their maturing and growing bigger so that could be all they needed. Either way as they get happier so will I.
When you think about it, plants with very wide big leaves collect more light than thin long leaves, so the plants need less light.
I suspect they evolved wider as a means of pulling in added moisture but it is just a suspicion.
As for the lights…
a lot of heirloom broadleaf indicas have that downturned leaf “cousin it” appearance. It’s nothing to worry about, they look very happy.
I think there improving by your pictures seem to not be as droopy .
@DougDawson I use the same app your using for LUX Meter… This is what I’m using to guage how the light is working for me.
Same Android application your using to get a ballpark range of lighting levels that I’m aiming for during the grow.
Vegetative 30,000 - 40,000 lux
Flowering 50,000 - 65,000 lux
< 15,000 lux - sparse or “stretchy” growth - plant isn’t getting enough light
17,500 - 40,000 lux - good amount of light for healthy vegetative growth
45,000 - 65,000 lux - optimal amount of light for cannabis plants in the flowering stage
70,000 - 85,000 lux - a lot of light, only some strains do okay at this light level.
Hopefully this helps
Yes indeed and some of the leaves seem to be flattening out, I am pretty happy to see them improving.
Thanks bud, much appreciated. I don’t normally use those apps. I bought a lux meter and installed that app on 2 separate phones, all 3 devices gave me totally different readings so I sent the meter back as I had no idea what to trust. Also apparently the Lux meters don’t read the whole spectrum. I looked at Par meters but for $800 I figured I would just learn to read the plants instead. In this case since the only change before the droop was the light I though I would try this again and just matched the setting in both tents. The plants defiantly seem to be responding to the change as it’s the first time I have seen them perk up since the move.
What I normally do is set my HLG 600 to 30" at 50% for veg than the day of flip I start turning them up and get the to full power over the course of 10 days at 24". I am defiantly taking down the notes you provided though. I really appreciate you taking the time to put it all down man. It’s really great information to have.
For all the reasons you said above, that’s why I use the app called “Lux” has a yellow icon with a light bulb on it. Gives me “ballpark” range & of course combination of common sense and reading what the plant is saying. Gives me a pretty decent idea what what’s going on ,)
I think your doing great man, keep it up.
@DougDawson These look great. I have my eye on the front right. Boy or girl, it looks like it is going to be thick. From what I’ve read, the PPP has a great story behind it. Your first seed run will be memorable. Looking forward to seeing you do it.
Thanks bud, they should be taking off any time now. It’s been fun so far, cant wait to see what they do next.
With things looking up I am hoping to flip to 12/12 by the end of the week. Main goal is to be completed before July 1st as I will be going into the woods for a week and I want to be shut down. That will give them 9 weeks to finish, man I will be cutting it close.
That’s going to be a nice full tent when they rolling!
My goodness. What a turnaround. Looking rather spiffy in there, man.
