Good tip! That might actually work out.
Tell you now you don’t want fresh shit… you want the been there a hot minute gray crispy manure… being honest, aged horse manure is better than Cow anyday
And if you really really cant find it, im sure if i put a little effort into it i can find a box of it for you. Just been really busy, but it would be for a good cause lol!
Oh. Well that might be harder then.
I only looked thru some Pan Cyan teks a long time ago, and remember they listed cow manure in them. Must have misunderstood…
Ok so its basically then unobtainable… UNLESS I GET MY OWN PET COW
(I live in a country setting so I COULD have a cow.)
I use birdseed for all my grows… people use all kinds of stuff… it all works… just gotta do you
Honestly just stop by a small farm, i bet they give it to you for free if you just want a bucket.
why do you need shit? so you can use birdseed? so it’s about a month from start to harvest??
Bird seed yes… but with any do it yourself mushrooming you need a pressure cooker… closer to a month and a half to two months for finished product for most bulk substrates…
pf tek can be done with steam sterilization and boiling but success rate without contam drops…so does your yeild… pf cakes typically get around 7-10 grams after a couple well hydrated pulls
Panaeolus cyanescens need manure, can’t do them only on grain.
Link the proof sneaky
Cuz I can show you different cyan grows and not a single one has manure in the mix lol sure it helps as a CASING later but it is not needed as many other things work for CASING layers also that are far more contam resistant…
Colonization & Bulk Substrates:
Spores:

2 1lbs of Rye Berries : 1 5lbs bag of Mushroom Compost : 1/4-1/2 Spore Syringe
Google brown rice cakes using canning jars. No need to even mess with manure unless you prefer it.
I’ve just seen it used in Pan Cyan teks.

To give you a few links. I don’t want to spam too much.
how do you use a pressure cooker? it needs heat? i do have a pressure cooker… i was going to convert it to a vacuum chamber by installing a butterfly valve and pressure gauge on the lid
U use it on a normal stove.
Thanks for all the info. Some good stuff here. I may just give this a try.
so you need to cook the mushrooms when they grow?
No.
You cook the substrate you gonna inoculate with the spores.
After that, it takes maybe 4-6 weeks for a non pressure-cooked substrate to colonize, about one week to two max for PC’d. Depending on the amount of substrate / jar but this is for 1-2 quart jars.
I am no professional grower, I am sure @toastyjakes knows more than me.
