I’m happy to talk (way too much) about growing mush but can also point you in the right direction. I’ve been involved in fungi for years. They don’t have strains like cannabis, more one strain with different varieties of it for the most part (cubes).
My biggest advice is stay away from all in one grow bags. Learn agar (it’s not that hard). You’ll need at least a pressure cooker for real success. Anywho – I’ll let this lay down as there are more appropriate spots with a lot of info on this subject already. Search out the Hitchhikers Guide to The Shroomery as a great starting place and feel free to message me here or over there (xVadisx).
Can’t wait to know half as much about cannabis as I do about fungi.

GT is a fine start, but so are most cubes. Some are weird or take longer and thus aren’t recommended for new growers, like Penis Envy or Enigma. In any case, these things want to grow.
There is a notable clean difference needed (for a few steps). This seems very different from cannabis which in general is more dirty. For agar and grain work, you do need to have it actually sterile (pressure cooker / autoclave). For some work following you can use the concept of still air (not clean air) OR a laminar flow hood (HEPA filtered clean air at the proper airspeed for laminar flow).
I’m curious of overlap I’ll find between the hobbies. I can already give you a killer gummy recipe :).
I also vouch for the shroomery as a great place for resources. Your guide choice is good, there is a lot of outdated (but important historically) information that will either slow you down or waste your time.
