Question about taking carts on a plane and the pressure differences

Back when I used a nicotine e-cig I remember taking it on plane trips, and road trips through the Rockies, only to discover that the pressure differences caused the liquid inside to be pushed out, making a mess. Well, I’m going on a plane trip and I’m bringing some distillate carts with me, so I’m wondering if the old trick of storing the carts upside down while in transit applies to distillate carts, or if there are new tricks? Does anyone have any advice on preventing any pressure-related blowouts while up in the sky? Thankee!

Oh weird, I’ve vaped ejuice since 2011 and been on a few flights and never had that happen at all. Even sneakily vaped on the plane no issues. I tend to use RTA’s or just bigger tank systems in general, currently on the Mesh Pro. Maybe its just the cheap all in one carts that have the problem?

I knew a guy who got busted for smoking a bowl on a plane. He hit it in the bathroom and zeroed the haul. Thought he was pretty cool lol. The guy in the seat next to him was a drug cop or something and smelled it, the cops were waiting for him when he got off the plane…

Planes are pressurized for your comfort. The internal pressure has to be below 10000 foot. People use vapes in Denver just fine so it will work the same on a jet.

The problem isn’t about pressure. It’s about changing pressure. Anyway, maybe carts or more air-tight nowadays than they used to be when they were being made for nicotine juice. If no one is even aware of the problem anymore, then maybe that’s a sign that it hasn’t been a problem since cart technology was taken over by the cannabis industry. Or maybe distillate is too thick to easily blowout the way that an aqueous e-juice would. I don’t know. I’m going to take it as a good sign that no one who responded seems to know that this used to be a big deal in the nicotine world, lol. I switched back to tobacco a long time ago so I haven’t brought any carts on a plane in a long time.

No one should ever vape anything on a plane. That’s a horrible idea, from a legal perspective. Even vaping nicotine would be an instant fine or arrest.

No it wasn’t a vape, but a good old fashioned lighter and bowl…which is obviously 10 times worse. To be fair vapes didn’t really exist at the time lol

It’s been a few years since I was in the vape scene, but as long as the wicks/coils are at the bottom and there isn’t a leaky seal or anything in the top (if it fills from the top), storing upside down should work still. There may still be some leakage from what’s already soaked into the wicks with the higher viscosity vs vape liquids, but it should be minor.

I ran my shop in a high volume tourist area and we used to see people in the shop constantly who had their liquid drain out in flight. Motorcycles are bad for it too with wind creating a negative pressure running through the cart or tank.

I’m buying carts from a dispo tonight and I’m pretty sure they’re ccells. I’ve never filled one. I’ve only ever bought them pre-filled like that. Do you know if ccells fit that format?

Looked em up on google. Those are top fill, bottom coil. As long as the seals are good on the top and its properly tightened (snug, but not so tight you cut the o-ring) you should be good to store them upside down without losing much, if any. I would turn them upside down as early as possible so that the wicks dry as much as possible before the flight and remember to let it sit upright for awhile before you use them so the wicks have time to saturate again. If you try to hit it dry it will burn the wicks and at the least make it taste nasty for some time.

Awesome. Thanks dude. I bought 3 carts, and I pulled the THC stickers off of them so that no nosy TSA agents can raise an eyebrow. I think I’m going to put them in a plastic baggie and put them inside my toiletries bag. That way if they do leak I won’t have any risky messes to clean up.

thats what the little air valve on mickey mouse boots was for lol, pressure equalization, seems everyone thought you were supposed to inflate them

I have smoked hash on the plane and carts. It’s an e-cig. Don’t have any carts that have pot leaves on em. And have it in a little zip lock bag with some e-juice.
