I just got back from a short romp in the mud.
Looks fun!
@ReikoX Meet me in Moabā¦ 60 days from now. Iāll be there scratching a few things off the bucket list.
Not today. Nice picture
Itās ten at night and I had an itch to go put back my rear seat in the yjā¦ I was packing too much gear. Now I have room for more than one passenger.
Iāve also been having problem with the front brakes heating up and causing me to drag ass ā¦we are going to bleed the lines and check the master cylinderā¦
After I get her driving again, I have to get a bracket that was connected to my skid plate in a wierd way to the exhaust welded as I broke off the piece of steel now my whole exhaust is rattling like all hell.
Also sheās in need of a wash and waxā¦ meantime itās still friggin snowing.
Edit already checked pads and all nothing is wrong with the front brakesā¦ when we changed em we might have pushed dirt in the brake line compressing the calipersā¦possibilities are everywhere.
Sounds like seized calipers or bad hoses. Jack it up and see if they are stiff, if not hold the brakes on hard for a bit. Then see if they are stiff.
If stiff, crack a bleeder, if nothing changes do calipers. If it frees up, do hoses.
Do those have abs? (Another source of woes)
If the front calipers arenāt releasing then either the calipers need r&r or the master is shot. Air in the line shouldnāt cause binding.
Sometimes the spring clips or whatever retaining hardware can get misaligned but that wonāt produce much drag either.
I canāt imagine a proportioning valve being the culprit but me no fix jeeps.
If anything a bad master cylinder or air will just cause them not to work.
Sticky/rusty/dirty tin pad clip things will cause a bind tho. Or stuck pins too
Take a look at the knuckles up front, if they developed grooves where the pads sit they can hang up.
All the brake assembly is fine and newly replaced. We think we have a bent line or dirt got in the lineā¦ or itās the master cylinder. Itās locking up equally on both sides. Thereās no abs on this yj.
Thanks for all that info, weāre going to troubleshoot soonā¦
Master cylinder or jammed hoses is what weāre thinking
They were replaced with all the brake assembly recently. They are fine, no grooves.
Grease_monkey knows what heās talking about. The fact that its both sides equallyā¦ Iād say master cylinder. If it was a line it, most likely, wouldnāt just develop on both sides simultaneously and evenly
I agree with that. Your master cylinder. Unless youāre having a vacuum problem. Not sure how old your vehicle is. Some of the older master cylinders with the vacuum with hooked up correctly your brakes donāt work. Mopar had a problem with that. If you remember they all GMCās and Ford everything ran off vacuum
Yes he does,ā¦ im moving closer to thinking its the master cylinder since itās on both sides too. Weāre still going to trace the brake lines for peace of mind. Love all the input here itās awesome thereās a jeep thread
Itās a YJ, late 89ās or early 90ās
Haha, we are all jeepersā¦ there are 3 on this property and my girl has one too. 2 yjās, a zj and a jku and we all do our own workā¦ sometimes my bro has to call grease_monkey thoughā¦ but not me
eh @Grease_Monkey
I do hate it when the brakes donāt work. My dad had an old pick up truck a 68 Ford custom I left school one day went to the stop light the truck did not stop. Lol
I have a Jeep also itās a new one. I had a CJ seven I think thatās right maybe it was a six. I had one with the flat head four-cylinder. I never drove it. Later military vehicle.
I traded a missing cylinder 96 blazer with wrangler tires. And thatās it for a running 91 yj stockā¦ Iāve been building it. Always wanted to. My father just didnāt give a crap about it. Itās been in the family since 91ā¦ helleva trade. Straight over.
