Just saw you replied now. Do you know if your control arms are radius arm, 3 link or 4 link lol

I’m going to keep my 5.25ish lift and go for lower center of gravity/ more down travel

I scared many people going through traffic circles in my old jeep with 5 inches lift and no sway bars lol

Hey, odd question. When I had my cherokee, she was stock. When I built the YJ, it was far from it.

Do Cherokees get the dreaded death wobble that Wranglers seem to get after being aged / worked on?

Yea they do. My buddy has been fighting this issue with his XJ. My buddy fixed it on his TJ with a hydrolic steering assist

You bet they do lol. I finally got to witness it while driving behind my buddy, the front tires do indeed lift off the ground lol.

Most Common death wobble causes:
Loose trac bar
Low caster angle due to lift kit
And bad geometry of the front steering linkage.

And short control arms, due to the sharp angle uf the arm causing every road bump to go into the body rather than the tire absorbing it with a less angled long arm

Steering dampner shocks can help but generally just mask the issue

You only see the hydraulic assist or full hydraulic here on vehicles that are trailer beasts but massively built… There’s a fair amount of rock crawlers locally and the cops will bust you for hydro steering because it is illegal on the road unless you have a mechanical linkage such as in power steering. If they see that hydraulic ram in the front you’re getting busted and towed if you’re on the road. Same with full bead locks… my 93 Cherokee was a trooper, couldn’t kill it. Finally got to the point where it wouldn’t pass an emmissions test even though it drove perfectly fine and otherwise had nothing wrong with it. For the cost to repair it I traded it in and regret it to this day. Should have just made it an off road beast because mechanically it was perfect

The YJ was a lot of fun though because it was old enough that it did not require an inspection any longer. Other than what the police could visibly see and pull you over for like beadlocks and hydraulic steering you could change so much stuff. Long arm trailing arm 3 link 4 link, all that shit was hard for them to see and you couldn’t be pulled over for it otherwise.

One of these Days I’ll buy another project Jeep and build another crawler.

Where I’m at the rules are similar, basically any mods are asking to be pulled over. Ive gotten pulled over numerous times in my old jeep and surprisingly it went very well… even with the stank of dank emanating from the windows lol. I had one cop asking where the best trails were and why my jeep was clean, another who pulled me over for muddy windows was glad to see a jacked up vehicle being used rather than a pavement princess ( he got a good laugh when I said I was on my way to destroy a gas station squeegee) and another busted me for having no insurance for 3 weeks… he let me walk for insurance and I just had to show him later lol.

Thats sweet lol. We don’t have emissions testing (go figure im in the California of canada) but, window tint, tire poke and after market lights are probably the most common tickets lol

I’ll be arriving in Moab May of next year to scratch White Rim off the bucket list… then into Colorado for some sights before heading back to east coast.

Wouldn’t mind a few like minded to roll with.

@Grease_Monkey, I finally took a look at my long arm kit. It’s a radius arm kit like you posted above.

About a month ago I started to hear a clicking in the Jeep at low speeds. At first I thought it was my rear driveshaft hitting my mufler (it does hit occasionally). A few days later I saw a huge puddle of gear oil under the front differential, so I parked it.

This weekend, my buddy and I jacked it up, took the tires off, pulled the axels, and then removed the third member from the Ford 9" in front. When we cracked the differential, maybe a quart of oil came out, so it was definitely low. Luckily the gears and locker looked to be in good shape. We did notice, however, that my breather tube had a wooden skewer stuck in it.

We removed the skewer, replaced the seals, and filled it up with gear oil. Now everything is working well, the clicking has stopped, and it cost me less than $100.

My buddy and I were contemplating why that skewer was in there to begin with. Best we can come up with was either they moved it and wanted to keep the gear oil from dripping out, or they power washed it and wanted to keep water out. Either way, they forgot to remove it. Likely that is what caused that seal to blow out.

Positive pressure building up and pushing gear oil past the axle tube seals… absolutely what would happen with a clogged or plugged diff breather. Run all your breathers up to firewall if you wheel in mud or water.

:sweat_smile: I’m starting to get a harmonic vibration between 80-100mph but I’m pretty sure there’s no shops around here that will help me diagnose it. :laughing: Not to mention Hawaii doesn’t really have a lot of places to try that… so they’d have to ride with me for a few hours. :rofl:
