ReikoX's Workshop

Tried hunting through my pics to no luck, but :raised_hands: to that, i have had mold specifically where the pots were stuck in corners to cause high humidity and obviously some decomposable matter for the mold to get started on, and typically where ever the seam of the pot was…

No pics from me either, once I saw it I repotted in double time.

I’ve tried the hard plastic airpots with good results but I only use them now when I’m planning to repot in larger containers.
My fear with those are fungus gnats and root aphids have more access points to the soil, my technique is to use several paper coffee filters to line the bottom of my solid pots.
Theoretically they should help thwart fly incursions but it really keeps fine soil from washing out.

I like the air pots but know exactly what you guys are talking about with the mold. The whole root zone evaporates into the air and keeps humidity high in cabinets as well. I would think a spray bottle with some vinegar and an occasional spritz might help the mold issue. Not the humidity one.

Not sure I wanna clog up Reikox thread either on the topic any further.

No this is a good conversation, I’m just about to hop in with my opinions on the matter. For the mothers, I prefer them because they keep the plant from getting root bound.

As far as mold, not an issue. I do get mineral deposits on the outside, but that doesn’t really hurt anything. That being said, I live in the desert and mold is practically non existant here.

I used the Radical Bags last round and those were a nice improvement because they didnt get the mineral stains. Instead of being a felt texture, they are a plastic mesh. They were very easy to clean too.

I’m planning to re-do my workshop soon, and will be making Soma style beds instead of fabric beds.

Fungal bacteria / mould will grow on minerals, I use moist compost and basalt rock dust mixed with barley powder as a carbohydrate, to make it for fungal teas. I have a bit of mineral build up on my fabric pots. I really like using them, you can change their shape to fit in awkward shaped spots.

I plan(ned) to use fabric pots in this upcoming grow and now y’all got me concerned. I dont want to deal with mold again.

I was actually sitting and thinking about this the other day so I’m glad someone mentioned it.

Soggy upper midwest here, mold heaven.

Say, I saw you have a gnat and fly collection on some sticky traps upthread. What other kind of pests do you have? Outdoors I can only get to my 2 plants at dusk or dawn, and the mosquitoes here are g d awful, plus they can carry equine encephalitis, had some fatalities too. Do you have skeeters in the desert?

Also, pardon me if you’ve already discussed this but with all of your experimenting, what would be the single grow method you would use if forced to?

@TrevorLahey
I forgot to mention the moldy cloth pots happened several years ago when I was growing in a particle board cab. Now have grow tents. May have been a contributing factor.

In the grow room, I’ve only had to deal with fungus gnats or thrips. We do have mites, in fact the like the low humidity. A lot of the incects here are poisonous, millipedes, scorpions, spiders, etc.

Not a whole lot of them. Not a whole lot of standing water.

No-till, no doubt. In fact, when I redo my workshop, I will have three no-till beds in my flower room. Been running my no-till bed for going on two years now and it’s still producing beautiful, delicious buds.

I use square smart pots. They’re awesome. They’re kept 3" off the ground on racks. No mold issues. Just normal minerals and runoff, but flushing usually fixes that. A lot of issues I had were from terrible watering cycles. Now I water when needed.

I have issued with FG. I noticed when I let the pots dry properly before each feeding the gnats weren’t and issue. Some plants should have been culled and shouldn’t have been in a larger mass because the do it system was too small for th excess moisture. I leave in steeping a plant up. Best ONE.

Everyone has their own hoodoo so if it works for you im all for it. Thanks for the thoughts. Hey Mr. S.how you doing sir?

Thank you kind sir. I love the stickers. I can’t wait to give the Dividers a go. The Juanita ive been eyeballing. She’s purdee. I’ll make sure I do them some justice. I really appreciate it Reiko. How are the Butter Cookies? Those cookie strains are what’s happening. I had some animal crackers. That stuff es gasoline.

I’d put the stickers in my tent but the hps makes them slide when the glue gets liquid. I keep em in a special box. Thanks bud and if you need something holler. After your remodel is there anything new as far as breeding goes?

I love the radical bags. I imagine they would do awesome with your flood table. That’s damn near hydro eh? Your feedings and watering schedules are spot on. I love smart pots. Have to get a few of the radical pots.

How are the Butter Cookies doing? I saw your GnG looking good.

It’s been a while since I did a real update on my workshop. First things first, I was tired of the blue light in my 16" x 16" clone tent. One of the problems I had with the blue light was the plants would get a transplant shock as well as a spectrum shock when I went from rapid rooters to 10 oz cups. I found my old 50-watt COB led and decided to install that instead. These COBs were my first DIY LED project. I’ve always wanted to hook up a dimmer to this, so that was also done.

A few dabs and a little solder later, I had the light all ready to put in the little cloning tent.

A perfect fit, if I do say so myself. Right now it’s dimmed down and as high up as I can get it.

The Gas and Guns auto testers are going crazy at day 47. I’ve been having to daily pinching and bending just to keep them under control. They got a fresh reservoir with flower feed.

The Butter Cookies testers are also being pinched and bent into submission. They have been flowering for about 21 days now, hopefully the stretch is about over.

The Skywalker OG are definitely starting to fill in the screen. I’m going to overgrow this area too, so about another week of veg before flipping them to flower.

Butter Cookies testers at 24 days or so. Accidentally broke one of the tops of the back left plant. Snapped it off trying to bend it put of the lights.

Cleaned out the Skywalker OG and tucked the growth tips. This is about ready to flip.

Thanks Reiko. I was looking forward to seeing those flower. Youre a busy bee right now. Thank you very much for the soil recipe. I’m already seeing the benefits of making your own. Everything is looking good.

Lol.:joy: You had to beat the tar out of those plants to get them in there. You always make it work though bud. I’m glad you’re back. Ive got some good stuff going on. Have a good one bud. Everything is looking sweet. I need to get some chips and fix the cob with a dimmer. When you get a bit id like to know the specs. You can post on my thread to not clog. Ty

Gas and Guns testers at day 53. I’m figuring these have at least another three weeks. I’m pleasantly pleased with the way these are bulking up.
