One thing that I forgot about was how soothing it is to hand water coco when the plants are small. It’s like a zen garden and you are using a water rake. Make a spiral and then smooth it out, and uh oh you held it on the same spot for too long and now you have a little hole that you need to push some coco over to fill.
Once the roots fill in and the coco has settled it loses the effect, but until then I feel like I’m getting my chi charged up real nice.
I have questions about the leaf thing. Never seen that before! Was there a time in the plants life cycle when it started happening? Like, it wasn’t always like that right? Also, have you grown other plants in the same conditions and had them grow without a down turned leaf? Additionally it seems the down turned leaf is always near the top of the plants, and never the bottom. Is that right?
The downturned leaves only appears to be ones of the 5 phenos. One of the other phenos has mutated leaves, and when it was a seedling it had three cotyledons and self topped. One row seems normal and healthy. The two rows on the ends had issues earlier on, but they seem normal as well.
When I sexed them they all seemed a little wonky, but I originally wasn’t going to grow them out so they didn’t get much light or water. I probably should have just run half a tent of them and half of something more predictable. This was an all in pheno hunt that was already showing warning signs.
The downturning seems more in the middle. At least the drastic ones. Like above the canopy, but not so much on the cola. Or what should be a cola. It’s more of just a little bud perched up there.
I backed off the light and that didn’t seem to have an effect. The plants beside it were getting like 200 more par, so I didn’t think that was the problem anyway. It was worth a try though.
When I had the LED too close to the plants, they got all bleached and yellow. Never seen what happened to your plants, but I have seen “things” where a plant is a mutant and the leaves are not normal. That’s where I’m leaning, because other than that, they are looking good.
Another thing to consider is I traded with some random guy who hit me up on RUI after reading about how I was bummed over losing my Grumpz mother. The seeds were already a couple of years old and I have no idea how he stored them.
Also I was the only person who didn’t have trouble growing them during the first wave after the drop. Maybe I just got an exceptional pack, but I figured everyone else just sucked at growing.
The new plants are looking good. I topped them yesterday. The other plants still have like a month, so I haven’t lost all hope. They are really frosty, so even if they don’t bulk up I’ll have plenty of fine hash material.
Oh yeah and I realized I cloned the row with the downward leaves for my next grow. They are the most vigorous out of the batch and the leaves look normal. It’s only one row, but there are only 4 rows total. There’s no turning back now, so we’ll see what happens in a few weeks.
I got this Pietro manual espresso grinder today. I bought it used off of eBay. It’s a bit of a workout, but it uses flat burrs which are the best kind and typically cost 1k+ if they are in an electric grinder. It will pair nicely with the Flare 58+ lever action manual espresso machine that I’m going to get in a month or two.
The plants are looking about the same. They have gained a little weight, but at this point I’ll be happy if I can get them to harvest with hardly any burned tips let alone any major damage. I was scorching leaves pretty hard the past couple of grows.
