Saving Bag of Seeds from 1960s and 1970s

that’s a wonderful idea. if this person has an ig, have them sign up here or just link to their ig post with this. it has to be documented. imagine the bragging rights that this would bring too. even if each seed were a different strain and/or a male, you could clone and reverse them and get enough seeds to get a sense of what it was. i wish i were at the level to do something like that.

I would get some aloe vera, slice open the leaf & set the seeds in it, soak over night, direct sow into sterile media. EWC is too prone to damping off, IMO, but all my tomato seeds in the worm bin seem to sprout.

Sorry to see there was a flareup of knowitallitus on a good thread.

I know for fact that Myself & @Pigeonman have successfully grown seeds that had been in storage since the 1970s just sayin… ( Jew Gold 1974 )

Whomever you deem responsible enough to grow at least some of these old and probably rare seeds, that’s 100% up to you and personally I’m all down for that, I just wanna follow along the journey

I also forgot to mention about another 5 or 6 OG’ERS who are more then qualified to grow super old seeds as well, sorry yall.

I know the Freakers (who specializ in this) @Upstate @Pigeonman @DougDawson @JohnnyPotseed & a ton of others would definitely share the repo seeds with everyone :grinning:

If your interested in allowing me to grow any, as per my only other post here, just DM me. If not, no worries at all and tag me whenever someone gets these growing. Will be a fun journey  @ClassicGenetix

Any update @ClassicGenetix ? I’m making a seed sprout tea, and then trying out the worm bin. Curious if there has been an attempt with the old beans yet.

Hey bud, Mystic wrote me on IG that he’d send me an email a few weeks ago, but haven’t heard anything yet so hopefully soon

That is a very nice collection of seeds. There are several roads that lead to Rome, but know that the method from Mystic is quite effective.

I have also old Seeds and looking for someone with knowledgein sprouting .

IT sounded like Mystic Funk is one of the more experienced in this, but figured that he is one that takes ages to be online. (or only on IG?).

So if you can make me clear who is the most passionate / knowledgable old Seedspouter then i would have some of the most awesone seeds for him, but its a last Batch , and i dont accept anything impatient, passionless… Just tell me who can do this, i have some of the greatest. Landrace. known anchestry. 70s Seeds.

Cool thread, much success to you!

I’ve germinated 15 year old seeds, paper towel method, but not fifty year old. However, there are stories of seeds found in Egyptian tombs a few thousand years old that sprouted.

How DO you resuscitate very old seeds, beyond scuffing? What’s the science? I recently discovered this thing called “google”, and here’s just one hit, lots out there. I’ve long felt, if you’re going to keep seeds a very long time, make a lot of them. Odds of germination decrease with time, so offset it with volume.

You can still find those old genetics, but few are growing 16 week sativa, including me. Can you imagine REAL Acapulco Gold, grown right, minus the stems, seeds, and dirt? lol.

I recomended still keep it that old seeds on the fridge until Mystic Funk have the time or be able to work with it.
On my humble opinion he is the only one that can bring to life really old seeds.

Absolutely! If they’ve been doing it successfully.

I’m just really curious about the science, and what Mystic Funk would do that’s different, you guys got me thinking. I’ve been doing this for fifty years, and never found anything more successful than paper towels, but I do see more people soaking, scuffing, peroxide, etc, these days. So I’m here to learn.

I have a Viet Nam vet friend that found a few hundred seeds in his “Chicago” album cover a few years back. They all would’ve been Mexican as he was stationed in San Diego after Nam, and had been known to stuff a brick or two in the VW spare tire on cross border trips. None sprouted.
