Saving Bag of Seeds from 1960s and 1970s

Have to agree with the paper towel, although I had siberian ruderalis stored in the fridge, paper towel method worked right away.

They seem to be a little hard to pop normally because of the cold environment the plants used too

Could you share more info on those seeds? Like what landrace?

wondering if MysticFunk just had lots of Seeds to try and hence is regarded as very good. OR if he really has the Skill to resurrect the most stubborn 70s Seeds

Yeah, Google has been going ā€˜down hillā€™ for some time now. A couple years ago (ā€¦5ā€¦?) you would have gotten multiple relevant hits.

Thereā€™s a link here somewhere (3 years back? IIRC) detailing the machinations they went through to do that (advanced tissue culture work). Actually a couple folks here have been working with tissue culture.

One trick I picked up in regards to the paper towel method:
Slip the prepped and loaded paper towel into a plastic zip lock and pin (or fridge magnet) the bag in the vertical position (instead of the usual horizontal).
You will get better formed ā€˜hatched beansā€™ as the roots will always go down.

Cool tip, I never wouldā€™ve thought of seed position when germinating (except when planting directly in soil), makes sense, thanks!

this hasnt started yet ? :frowning:

I have access to a laminar flowhood and could try it to germ invitro. Also have, IAA, NAA, Kinetine, GA3 etcā€¦ BUT the mediums I have are almost all for orchids, with the exception of the general M&S and never tried with cannabis.
I am not 100% sure that they should sprout this way, and Iā€™m scary to fail. And the worst is that I have also no free space for then in case of sprouting.
If there will be plenty of seeds I could try a couple, but with limited stock, it is a no-no, better leave in hands of more experienced people with long term cannabis.

Meanwhile, keep it well stored, and sure anyone with more experience jumps over.

Interested in how this project is going. Iā€™d be willing to take a few to see what comes from them, I have plenty of open space and time to handle these.
K+ for the ideaā€¦

How much experience do you have germinating old seeds? and how do you plan to do it?

Just about everything I used to germ was old. I been growing since '04. Was apart of the original Overgrow. There are several methods if you donā€™t know how, soak in coconut water for one (which I have plenty of living in Jamaica) or scratching the surface of seed first (to help it along). Itā€™s not rocket science, have done it plenty.

@ClassicGenetix my very good Homie i have sampled a bit of the Classic Seeds Mexican Redhair Repro from Alter Ego i put down from awhile back and i must say it is everything o hoped it would be and then some.Untrimmed buds are covered with Red hairs everywhere blanketed in fine tricomes High is very upbeat and energetic at first then fades into a very Stoney and narcotic high that ends up in the munchies then sleep.Almost just like the old 90s Mexican we used to get taste is amazing and oldschool even the room smells like an old smoke session. Two thumbs up on this one Homie its a straight up G

YES. Man Iā€™m beyond stoked to hear that! Mine is at 11 weeks today and Iā€™m letting her go a few more days, canā€™t wait now that I know thereā€™s gold in them there hills. What kind of smells are you getting off her?

EDIT: You inspired me to snip off a little bud from mine and wow. Listening to the dead now on a sunny day in socal, it 100% takes me back to the 90s. Ripped, everything takes on a brighter glow and head in the clouds. Good vibes in the head and chest like Nepalese. This is my kind of boogie woogie, Iā€™m stoked I got a few more packs to OP, hit Jacalyn and BSHW. STOKED

@classicgenetix,

In the entire world, I can not think of a better referral than from Elchischas to Mystic Funk. Both are legendary.

Kind of that juniper pine but a much more Hashy taste very rich and full with a bit of that weedy old sweet mexican funk like really good brick used to have that sweet smell that just hangs in the air for an hour this one distorts time a bit and makes me stare off into space and shit

@DougDawson- If the Freakers ever had trouble Mystic Funk and Elchischas would be who they would go to. Like Ace, Cannabiogen and probably a number of other world famous entities.

Letā€™s say you need brain surgery. You have a choice between a world famous brain surgeon and your neighbor who can sharpen up a butter knife. Who are you going to go to?

There is serious and 'what the hell".

Lol, this thread is almost a year old. Your analogy makes no sense to me.

This is my point. There are many very skilled growers out there, many with decades of experience. To say only 1 person on the planet would be qualified is just nowhere near reality in my mind. You compare a brain surgeon to a neighbor that can sharpen a butter knife and while that made me laugh, I would say you would be better off comparing a brain surgeon to other brain surgeons. That would be a better analogy IMO.

There are many skilled growers that would be great for such a project. While I am not qualified for such a thing, I still acknowledge their existence. I should also mention that being famous is not something required to be an amazing grower. Not being in the public eye does not negate a growers experience.

Regardless, it would be great to see this project finally get off the ground for @ClassicGenetix
& @Elchischas . It would be really cool to see what comes of it. :v:
