Second ever grow, First Octopot grow!

Not this grow, lol.
Lesson for all following this topic: Beware Blackstrap Molasses in reservior using Octopot. Totally stunted my plant when it should have been helping to bulk-up etc…

Next grow is pure RO water with Athena Blended in 6 Gallon Octopot. 18/6 then 12/12 Full-Blast.
Not messing with any additional ANYTHING.

I’m just hoping as small and scarce the buds are, that they taste good and vape/smoke well. That water was nasty.

I got some advice from a fellow forum member at a growers meetup and used TPS ONE in my octopot this run. Super duper super easy and I’ve been happy with the result.

The multi part nutrients are difficult to mix accurately at such low amounts, with the single part I just free pour into a five gal bucket with tap water running, stir, and watch my ppms. when ppm down to target just cut off the water and add to rez.

Well done my friend! Very nice

Thanks! Def not my best work, but hopefully it vapes well. I’ll consider the next run with two plants my REAL Octopot run. Just dipping my toes on this one.

Still looking for thoughts on which two strains to run on my next grow. Will be planted by end of month. Cant use the tent now due to everything drying.

I’d go with green crack and chemdawg, two vastly differing buzzes and palettes , yet similar structure and growth patterns plus they are both absolutely stellar strains I love! Got that funky mango sativa type buzz on an indica frame for the GC and that dank, garlicky, gym sock greasy ass fire on the Chem-D

Interesting…
Is that a supplement, or one and done feed? Just looked it up. Very easy. Im just wondering if lots of waste in that product… Giving nutrients when not needed in veg and same in flower.

I like that combo! A 2 week difference in flowering time, but that can be handled by starting drying-cycle in my smaller 2x2.5 shorty tent. Its sitting there just waiting to be used, lol.

I think that will be a grow or two down the road, but a very complimentary combo for sure!

One and done all the way thru for me. If there’s waste I’m at the scale where it wouldn’t bother me as I only run one-few plants at a time. It was cheap too, like thirty bucks for a quart.

I did do a single silica feed with von leibigs special as one of my “water only” feeds. wish I woulda done a few in veg as heavy buds on a viney frame post top and train needed some support second half of flower. I’ve had bad experiences with the product in hydro tho so didnt wanna push my luck

I’ll look a bit more into that for a future run. Gonna do the Athena Blended again for now, but I like the idea of 1 bottle, plus would need silica for sure.

Looks like RH is starting to drop a bit.

So, did final trim Sunday 1/7/24 after a week dry.

Remember, this grow was hindered by Blackstrap Molasses gone sideways.
Basically, all that was supposed to happen from week 6 on… Didnt happen.
No fattening of buds, no buds multiplying, nothing really.

Lower quality buds (to me) throughout, for the most part. Not bad quality, but not what Im looking for.
Going to cure for a week or three and see how they turn out. May sneak a toke before then. Maybe tonight, even.

First branch to donate the goods!

I really REALLY love the lighted magnifying glasses to the right in the above photo. I used originally with watch work, and as my near-field vision continues to decline, they have become invaluable while growing. They really let me see the trichomes, and light things up well for trimming. Magnification level 1.5 is perfect for a lil bit of vision boost while trimming, reading mfg labels, etc.

Stans always ready with emotional support, lol.

All Done. Yay!

Total take:
292 grams of usable weed = just over 10 ounces.
I collected 7 grams of Kief as well. Not bad. Thats more Kief than my last harvest which was just over 1 pound.

Look at that Keif Mountain!

Overall, I consider this grow to be a failure.
If not for my introduction of Molasses, Im sure I would have seen much bigger, denser buds and closer to a 1 full pound harvest (after dry).
Hopefully, its decent stuff, being stunted the way she was. Not a very tight structure, but plenty of trichomes, as seen in earlier pics.

Was on this cut and trim yesterday from 10am - 11pm by the time I’ve cleaned up, etc. Long fucking day.

Everything fit in three 1/4 lb (4oz) Grove bags I have left from last grow.

A gallon zip-lock bag of leaves, things that didnt make the cut, etc as well. Still have bag from last grow in the freezer. Really need to cook up some edibles soon.

I will say, it took me longer to cut/trim this time than my prior, larger harvest. Trimming little buds SUCKS.

Now I’ve done a Wet trim/Dry finish (first harvest) and a full dry trim (this harvest). Glad I’ve got both under my belt.
I was a bit worried about the dry time due to the leaves, etc. Worried I may get mold or mildew. Everything looked super-clean and no wierd smell either. I’ll keep a close eye as they final dry/cure.

Would be a good way to add a day or two to the dry time in summer (keeping leaves.etc on) when my house is much warmer. Good way to introduce mold in warmer months as well, lol. Something to think about…

Thanks Papa… I feel like you’re just being nice.

I guess I should be happy I got 10oz. And I got to learn some of the ins and outs of Octopot! And what NOT to do.

It will only get better from here

The learning curve is huge

Each time you grow you learn something new

Now you have a taste of what they can do

You will see improvement each time

Rules to live by

Less is best
Empty between refills
Ph every time you fill
Feed every time you fill
The plant will tell you what it needs

Thanks Topshelf!

As long as it Vapes/Smokes well, I’ll call it a victory. Lessons learned.

That’s all that matters, we definitely never stop learning in this game, it’s if we learn from our mistakes and overcome that matters right, I’m constantly switching media, done most, 85% in fact. Always something to learn/experience.
