Señor Christmas' Fuck-Ups (And Downs), 2023 edition

Everyone’s smelling fantastic. I wasn’t able to flower out the males of the Golden Showers prior to the females; no space for it. For the next grow, I’ll flip the plants when they’re in their 4 in containers, wait for signs of sex, and then reveg the females and repot them to 1 gals, allowing the males to flower in the smaller containers.

I also popped a few of @Lobstah’s AK47xWW Auto’s, they’ll stay in the 2x2 along with some clones of the 4x8 plants.

Welcome to Day 33 of Flower,

and lastly, this ugly fuckin thing…PUCK Bc3 F2s by Mr.Bob Hemphill.

The puck was a mutant, so I didn’t expect much. It’s quit an ugly plant, but it has golf ball sized nugs that are quite dense. Smells of pure lemon cleaner, so it might be an interesting smoke. I’ve been closely monitoring it for signs of herming, but we’ve been in the clear so far. The ugly brown colored bits were removed after the photo was taken.

I’m starting to see some real pretty colors in the 4x8, with my favorite being the Super Pineapple Haze. I’ll be performing a final round of serious defoliation in the upcoming days.

I also took cuttings in an attempt to create some mom plants. Only 3 successfully rooted.

Doña Florinda (Colombian A.S.S)

Rochelle (Super Pineapple Haze)

Lastly, here are my Golden Showers. Not a great picture, but I’m no photographer. I’m just a Gallery Hero.

I did feel artsy with one, so here’s Nurse Nadia.

Bueno amigos, parece que eso es todo.
Till next time,
Buenos humos.

My original pictures are too heavy to upload, even when I compress them slightly, so I apologize if the quality isn’t all the best. I end up having to take screenshots of the pictures and pasting those on here.

This will most likely be my final update before harvest since it’s only 2 weeks away. This means that the final grow of the year is coming to a conclusion, thanks for reading along.

Things I learned this year.

  1. Pollinate the females around weeks 3-4, flip males a week or more after females to give them enough time to develop their pistils.
  2. The breeding tent has to be far from the flowering tent. I worked with what I had, but hopefully I’ll gain more growing space here soon.
  3. Trellis is my friend. I have to incorporate more layers in my grows as I keep encountering support issues with the buds.
  4. Bring down room humidity beginning week 4/5, aim for 50 by Week 6.
  5. The 7 gallon pots are too big for the 4x8. I believe the max I can do is 8, 4 on each corner. If I end up with any more than that, I have to use 3 gallon pots for flower.
  6. Start topping young. Top when the plant has 2 sets of leaves, as shown here by Pirateboarder Life on YouTube:. Do an anchor point prior to topping and then lay the plant down once it is topped.
  7. It’s important to start keeping an excel sheet for each plant to record their runoff. I’m noticing that most plants enjoy a maximum runoff E/C of 4, some show signs of stress at that point however.

Here are the plants:

This formation here is really pretty to me.

Mo Lune Day

And some seeds poking out of the Colombian A.S.S:

Everything got pollinated by the Golden showers… heavy too. I’m not really upset, I feel like there’ll be plenty of good unseeded bud for me to try out. I luckily have 3 out of the 4 plants cloned, so everyone but the GG#4 x 5 de Chem will get another chance. I am a bit excited to grow out some of the seeds. Especially the Super Pineapple Haze x Golden Showers… that sounds nice.

Golden Showers:

I believe these revegged some bit, look at these leaves:

I think the shitty timer outlet I bought off Amazon is broken. I’ve caught it twice now where it turned off my lights randomly.

Also, Juli developed either a deficiency due to over feeding, or straight up just got burned.

Everyone else is looking real spiffy though. It’ll be something to keep an eye out when I grow out their prodigy next.

The next time I post shall be post harvest.

Cheers y’all!

Your green is quite clean buddy, and you look like to have the hand with columnar strains ^^
Nice season bro, it look like we have the same number of rounds but my last just enter in its first week of flo just now, you will pass the finish line before me for sure ^^

When you have multiple pairing to do in one round, you can also delay the alternate males just in giving them 24/0 during the wait. It will not really stop them to flower but give you a margin to operate in your sequence. Pollination just take one night. Feed the waiting males with high-N/low-P to increase the time-margin.

I dislike treillis because i move the plants all the time all the week to check them, cull the extra etc … i rather prefer to use the individual pots as support. You don’t even need a complex structure, just ropes attached to the four corners like a fucking GSM antenna. Just an opinion, i hate too when my plants move like there is an earthquake.

You can flower them in a medium as low than 1gal only with decent results in weight (but less veg/training). Not really compliant with your style of grow, it’s more to talk (decent) volume to flower.

In my books, 10 liters / 2.6-3.0 gal is a sweet spot to master indoor with cannabis with various type of strains. It’s my personnal max, and containers i’m not using much while i’m screening the commercial shit to refine.

stay green !

Thank you hermano, I appreciate that. I was a bit foolish and hadn’t made the connection that SCROG isn’t just to spread the plants out. It also serves as the support for the branches once the colas start stacking. It all clicked watching a video about Stizzy’s operation. I’ll be better prepared for the next grow, I’ve already cut 10" extenders to add at least 2 more layers of trellis to support.

I’ll also be catching up to your grow here in the upcoming days, I haven’t had much time to spend on the site lately. Definitely miss seeing your beautiful plants with detailed reports on em’.

Nice, thank you for the tip. I was defoliating the males like a mother fucker, trying to get them to stall a bit lol. I messed up, I should’ve flipped everyone while they were in 4 inch containers, waited for them to show sex, and then kept the males in the their 4 in containers in my 2x2, and repotted the females in the 2x4. Next time though, and now I know to keep them 24/0 and reducing P for stalling. That’s also why I also like reading your journal, lots of good information like this.

I’m so used to being unable to move my sin-semilla plants dude, I don’t think I’d know what to do with all that freedom! You should’ve seen how I had to water/defoliate when I had the 12 plants in the 4x8. I felt like a like a slug having to crawl in there, a feeling that was surprisingly uncomfortable, yet oddly familiar… :eyes:

I could top the branches a few more times to control their structure, that way I could move them around without them flopping all over the place… we shall see, it’s definitely something I can mess with in the future.

My reproduction tent is where I use 1 gals, and have liked the size they remain at so far. The 1 gals will definitely be the pots I use to do larger pheno hunts.

Training in veg is half the fun for me, to be honest. I’ll hopefully get to do lots of it next round, as I want to pop a bunch of the Golden Showers, some of the unintended crosses from the tent, and a bunch more puck. Along with clones from the plants I made mothers this round.

Cheers brotha! I put some Durban Biscotti x Triangle Kush smoke in the air while replying to ya. Thank you for stopping by and for spittin’ some knowledge.

Buenos humos!

In plain stomaching of a strong magic butter of Big Bud, it was supposed to be a sleeping tea and i’m high as fck at 4am ^^. Just WTF.

Thanks for the kind words, i try to play a bit with the rejected phenos for the sport of it for now. It’s good for the ego also when i’m fighting with the releases … the real show is for the next season with some cool prototypes, i promise ;o)

I get the point now for the treillis, i need to show you someday my scarification tech for secondaries. One time you know where to do it, it’s quite simple and fast. The principle is just to cut with a blade the fiber of the stem to hardened it, with multiple parallel scars stacked. It make the section very woody within a little week. But wishing you to have hard time to keep the plants straight is also legit, it mean that get the most of them ^^

Heavy defoliation on males is a legit approach too, i’m just trapped to keep the shapes intact or i’m blind on the influences. So i use more indirect leverages that don’t hit the reading. You can also use copper wire directly in contact with the stems, it’s a bonsaï tech that slower a lot our plant. Some food for your baked neurons.

Yeah i saw that your style is a jungle style ^^ But honestly you’re a fast scrogger considering the modern habits, i don’t know your average gr/day in rounds but i’m sure it’s quite decent. You found a balanced sweet spot i think, not sure that spreading more the vegetal mass will lead to more productivity at the end. Maybe just a more structured training, like wineyards well aligned or in V-scrog. I don’t want to kill in the egg the idea of a sequential topping either, just sincerely saying that i see the good tempo behind the buds.

On the growlog it will be pretty calm next weeks, i’ve not finished to cull specimens yet. It look like only three females will finish to flower in the 4x4, i got a bunch of males (very happy about it). One time it’s done, i will pop some F2s to fill the stash-stressing-void. It will be more fun to see. Count two weeks.

I know this feeling for the transplantation ^^ It remember me the start of this year when i’ve pushed ten beautiful herms in 10 liters for nothing lol And actually i was supposed to push two lines in 12/12 direct and i was forced to give them a month of 24/0 … so now i’m hesitating to transplant the females in 10 liters ^^ Plants sometimes have just an idea in their stomates : to trash your planning.

I agree on the 1gal volume, it’s a sweet spot that is almost universal i think. For repros and crosses, it offer a good density without really limiting the shapes. But for the sinse it’s definitively something to SOG imho.

In seeing the texture of your leaves and the green tones, this bud is definitively something i will smoke ^^
Fuck i’m really high now, i hope all of it is not too chaotic and have a sense
