Sensibowl Grows Things

Thanks that’s what i figured, get a good base going and take it from there. Can definitely add those to the list.
Wondering if it might be better off to get a compost pile and vermicompost going first, not in a huge rush

As long as your compost isn’t too hot by the time you need it.

Might play the long game, gives time to learn a bit more too! Can always buy some compost if I get impatient :+1:

You can get it pretty cheap…I just buy it from grocery stores or hardware stores and it works fine.

For sure, there’s definitely no shortage of compost around here, farmland galore

I ordered some new pets! Just a small 1/4 pound of worms, but I’m in no rush and they’ll reproduce quick enough granted I treat them well

Vermicomposting is one of the best things I have done for my garden. I follow a coots style and feed the worms amendments with the idea that what goes in must come out in a more plant friendly way. Here is a link to the RIU worm thread that has tons of great stuff Vermicomposters Unite! Official Worm Farmers Thread | Rollitup

That’s awesome, I always hear nothing but good things about it. Always meant to start but never got around to it until now!

Makes perfect sense and thanks for the link, I’ll give it a thorough read!

What kind of worms? Are they just regular fishing worms?

Got some red wigglers

They look the same as fishing worms that you can buy locally, I could be wrong though.
My main concern is receiving dead worms in the mail LOL.
Although, you can buy fishing worms that are half dead too. :upside_down_face: :slightly_smiling_face:

Yea you might get lucky and end up with red wigglers from the fishing store but it’s a roll of the dice.

You can buy wigglers at the pet store as well but they’re a little more pricey. The place I ordered from guarantees live worms and had them at a good price. They ship out on Mondays to avoid having them sit at the post office too :+1:

definitely felt strange ordering worms online though :joy:

Serious question: why not just go dig your own worms?

I used to use dish soap mixed with water to pour on the ground/grass, an then pick the worms as they come up.
I sucked at fishing, so I didn’t want to waste money on worms LOL.

Where I live is mostly clay but I bet I could find some worms.

The type of worms you’d find in the back yard won’t work as a good vermicomposter apparently. Wigglers and a couple others are best as they live in the top soil and might compost quicker? I’ll have to get back to you on that for straight facts, I’m a newbie

No, proper variety of worms makes sense. I just like digging for worms to throw at girls.

Yea, seems wigglers are mostly chosen due to temperature tolerance and living in top soil. they apparently have hardy cocoons too
