SHSC-1 Grows Shiskaberry 3f2

Those Shiskaberry babies are looking great dude!
Yeah, don’t give up on that runt. Yup, Sometimes they will surprise you!
We’ve grown a few that grew out of that stage and was kept as moms.

I’m reminded of Doug Dawson’s lonely BMR, now she’s a beauty!

Continual Good Vibes!!

Veg update
After discussing with @PineTarBastard , we have decided to include my 2017 shishkaberry seeds in the journal but any use of them for this seed increase will be evaluated first. What I think is we might end up with more than one seed lot to pass around.
Anyhow, there are weeks left to make any decisions.
The seedlings are nicely settled in to thier pots that were wetted out with full strength feed.
I have watered them twice now with 1 cup each application. I have a 75ft deep well for my water here and right now it’s coming in at 6.5 ish. Plants seem to like it
Here is a pic of the 7 Ustad Shishkaberry 3f2

and a group shot with the whole family together. Shishkaberry 3f2 are the white tag and the 2017 Shishka are the red tags. In my notes I am calling them Shishka A(white tag) and B(red tag)

that’s it for now… and I think I will pull another batch of the 2017 seeds and get them going.

till next time

Great color on those things! Jealous of your 6.5 well water too, ours is slightly higher in ph with a little seasonal swing but I’ve recently stopped adjusting to see if I can get away with it or not. Cheers to healthy plants the whole way through my friend :v:t2::v:t2:

How do the different breeders versions of this compare to the original? Sol gear is non existent anymore but I see blimburn, Barney’s and a few others carry this. Didn’t know if any of them started carrying it after he shut down or if everyone just started trying to make their own version of it

Blimburn and Barney’s are knockoffs according to breeder steve in potcasts I have listened too. He almost spat the words barney’s farm and seemed to have a real hate on. I have heard the blimburn and barneys is the same but it is not shishk according to breeder steve.
I have not seen or tried any other spice of life repro work other than that of Ustad Seeds one time release of thier F2’s of Spice of Life Shishkaberry 3. The same seeds we are working with in this thread. I am not sure where/when @PineTarBastard aquired his seeds but the ones I aquired and worked with were released in 2015/16 at Hemp Depot. And as mentioned earlier in the thread, my 2017 seedlot is the only female I got from old spice of life first release Shishkaberry seeds aquired in 1998. I tried getting them going in 2016 but only 2 plants grew… an unimpressive male and a nice honey cruller kind of smelling female. So I selected a really nice stud from the Ustad seeds to pair with that lone 98 female to make my 2017 lot.
The Ustad seeds really reminded me of the shishkaberry I know as far as stem smells, leaf shapes and structure “and” more importantly… the telltale blueberry variegation.
The plants were certainly of Shishkaberry origin and too me… whoever did the selection process over at Ustad Seeds did a bang up job. This is why I feel there is very worthy genetic material to recover and preserve.
Will breeder steve just call me another knock off… geez I hope not. I am doing this project as a tribute to spice of life and this variety simply must be preserved and only legit genetics of spice of life origin will be used. No cash crop ken, no blimburn or barney’s… just the legit Shishka.
I was giving the plants a little shot of water tonight… will get them organized for a pic dump tomorrow. Some real nice vigor and the smells are waking up and I am really pleased.
stay tuned!!

Ok, so stay away from blimburn and Barney’s lol. I’ve never tried Shishkaberry but there seams to be a lot of talk about it lately so it peaked my interest to look around

Didn’t someone do a Shiskaberry run on here in the last few years? Does anybody know where that was sourced. I’ll see if I can find them.

I’m definitely interested in this Ustad Shis…

There’s one right now by @SHSC-1 !

there was a Shishkaberry co-op seed run underway but the grower dropped off the radar mid grow and has not returned. The thread was closed until that member returns from what I recall.
I think the seeds being used for that were from the original version of Shishkaberry.

When Breeder Steve moved his work to europe I remember reading some of the write ups he did at the time. I can’t seem to find any of that online anymore though. It is there that he created Shishkaberry 3 and a few other selections that were , I think, the last releases of Spice of Life to the seed banks.

So here will do a seed increase of Shishkaberry 3f2 (ustad) and get those out to the community. There is a large cult like following whenever Shishkaberry is brought up on forums so it is clear that the “strain” is missed. I would love to converse with Breeder Steve again one day, as the last and only time I spoke with him was the day he put that glass vial of Shishkaberry seeds in my hands and I happily handed the girl at the counter at emery’s shop my money LOL

I don’t want to be perceived as trashing on Blimburn , Barney’s or any other outfit for that matter. I only mention them because of words Breeder Steve himself spoke regarding the subject when it came up in the live interviews/potcasts that I have listened to.
So because I am aware of his feelings on the subject, I have to exclude material from those sources when it comes to projects like this.
Not to sound sucky but I tread carefully working with this line because of the things breeder steve has said and written about “copycats”.
I don’t want to be seen as a copy cat but rather a preservationist working to preserve a strain that has eluded many and left it’s mark on so many others.
At the end of the day, I just love the plants and want to see others get a chance to experience what some of us older heads carry on about.

So grateful for your time , experience and resources, beautiful work, and everything you have said is very true in regards to the other seed companies, and I can appreciate breeder Steves disdain for them , Barney’s farm , wasn’t a seed company until a grower showed up at a cannabis cup and used Barney’s farm to enter his legit sweet tooth 3 flower, from seeds he purchased in Vancouver(and took first place with it) immediately Barney’s became a seed company and put ST 3 on the menu , without so much as a mention to Sol seeds or breeder Steve, they didn’t even bother to source the real genetics ! Just used whatever they could find to sell to the masses ,you can bet everyone who bought ,grew and smoked it,musta thought what the fuk is so special about this ? And it certainly didn’t look anything like real spice gear,
So very sad,I’ve listened to a few pod casts with breeder Steve , and he makes things very clear
Apologies if this is the wrong spot for my little rant,I’m just so happy that you know the diff, and you’ve gone to great lengths to do this proper
I’m sure breeder Steve would be happy that you are bringing these back,he’s said more than a few times that this world would be a better place,if everyone had access to good grass ! And I believe that he was sincere in that respect!
Beautiful work!
Mad Respect!
Peace

@Barefrog took some seed I’d sent and made more that was a year or two back . Might be thinking of him there also was some fem seed being passed around and a Shiska crossed also.
Just so people are clear the seeds I have originally came from emery’s store front many years ago .

Cool project! I LOVED my Shiskaberry. I wish I could have it back, such a wicked plant and smoke. I grew it for 3 full runs. Turned pretty colours in the fall and indoors near the end when I turned down the night Temps. The smoke was just unreal. I’m not sure the source, I got them from an oldtimer that lived on texeda Island (THE texeda island ) he had an awesome timewarp cut too… passed away some years ago. I’d love to find a representation close to these again

yes that’s right before my time here barefrog did a seed incease. He offered some beans for this adventure but am holding that card in my back pocket for what comes next hehehe.
perhaps another recombining the F1 shishkaberry line with the Shishkaberry 3f2 line might be fun.
