Transplant time… Some got too dry on the weekend.

Watering these is going to be fun. Mars, why you put so much wire on these lights ??

The Cali Os are coming along.

Getting low on Botanicare, and it’s a bit pricey for daily watering coco dtw. So maybe I will do Jacks 321 after all. I also have GH Maxi and Megacrop, may as well use some of it.

You and I are single handedly supporting the Canadian dairy industry.

Looking good.

Yeah you’re probably losing $$$ in dtw with the PBP

Edit:

In cahoots!

Also looking good.

Now I need some cheap 1ish gallon containers I can use for hempies. That and flipping soon might keep the watering somewhat reasonable.

This may or may not help you but when I flower in 1G containers, 4 at a time, I mix up 1G of nute solution and they each get 1L and it works perfectly fine.

OK no more hand watering for me.

There’s a res bucket with 2 pumps and a bucket head shop vac outside the tent, all on smartplugs. The totes have a hockey puck under the far end so everything drains forward eh.

It was a pain to set up, but watering is easy now…

  • add Jack’s with the mixing pump on
  • pump nutes for ~1m
  • run the shop vac

So maybe it’s a yogurt cup grow now, depending on how many males show up. I’m out of coco and promix anyway. But I did find these if I need cheap hempies.

Is it too soon to flip ? I’m trying to keep things from getting out of hand here.

Dude hell yea, you went & fully automated since your last post. Awesome :100:
Now, how many hours work & how much $?

3 hours and $30 for new tubing since I had most of this crap laying around from other grows. Aboot $300 CAD to buy it all new today, but I got most of it pre-inflation.

1/4" irrigation fittings kit $20
1/2" fittings $10
1/4" tubing 100’ $20
1/2" tubing 20’ $26
2 amazon pumps $50
3 kasa plugs $36
bucket head $50
totes $80

I like using Orbit 8 port manifolds a lot better than piercing into the 1/2" tube. But the tubing would’ve been crazy on this one with manifolds.

You can do it cheaper with just a pump, tubes/fittings, tubs and a shop vac. Like so:

Man, Skunkberry really went off the rails in those hempies.

That’s a slick looking setup except for all those snakes!

About flipping now, I dunno. I’ve never flowered fully in the yogurt cups. I usually veg to sex and then uppot. At that point they need watering every day. But I’ve also never automated it so I really can’t say.

it would be cool to see a full grow in yogurt but it really depends on your goals. I’m sure you could do it but my psychic powers tell me to give it another week.

Mister @Foreigner, can you “talk to me” about Veg to Sex…

I’ve a bunch of Heirlooms that I’ve just let loose, and I’m only 4 weeks away from Flip, as they are breaking ground lol

I’m all over the Sex question with these Regular famous seeds. What is your trick in Identifying the Sex of young seedlings?

Any and All help is appreciated on this topic @smokenhike

Time to have “the talk” eh ? I will be keeping an eye on those heirlooms.

Preflowers usually start showing around week 3-4 of veg but some take longer. To help them show faster some people like to flip to 12/12 a few days around week 3-4 then back to veg. I tried it and it seems to help.

Bigger plants in veg can often be males, but it’s not a reliable way to tell.

In the US you can send a leaf sample away for testing to find out the sex. Not sure if there are any labs doing this in Canada, and it’s a bit expensive.

I agree with @smokenhike but I find it’s usually 5-6 weeks. Sometimes you can guess earlier based on structure, but not always, and I wouldn’t make decisions based on this.

I’ve never used a lab but some people seem to like them. I read, can’t remember who, someone sends his Canadian samples to American labs because it’s way cheaper but couldn’t say for sure.

A trick some use is to switch to 12/12 for 2 days, then back to 18/6 and get preflowers earlier but I don’t do this.

Best of luck.

Wow thats a quick response Guys, appreciated @smokenhike @Foreigner
Raising them till a sex is apparent is the plan. Like so many, always looking for tricks, but I’m not ready to send leaves away yet either.

Thanks for that SnH !

I just culled one at 2 weeks because it was looking male but even if I was wrong I didn’t like its structure anyway so no big deal.

By week 6 you will know for sure :+1:

Bonus and Thanks.
This is going to be a “Hard Ball” and “Result-Driven” effort right from the get-go. Healthiest wins in the end is where we started

Yeah, takes a bit after they show preflowers before you can confidently say M or F. I’ve been wrong about it many times before.

Well it’s the start of week 4 from sprout. I flipped for 3 days and now back to veg. About half are showing. They’re on Jack’s 321 at 80% it works out to 900ish ppm with ~200 from the tap.

2 C99s are definitely male. These will be the pollen donors.

At least 1 F C99.

Normal Cali O, sex TBD.

Oddball Cali Os. Self topping!

Triple Spice

I’m leaning towards the water jug hempies, but man it would be a lot lazier to just flower them as is.

Thanks for tuning in.

Looks awesome.

Do you feel the few days of flip sped up the sexing process?

The C99 is a noble pollen candidate and a cali/c99 sounds pretty nice to me.

Feels like it does but I can’t say 100% for sure.

It’ll be a nice old school pairing, hope that big Cali O is F.

The G13 is dry, it turned out a bit better than expected and no longer smells like assberry, so that’s nice

I was promised assberry!

Yeah if the CaliO is F that would be ideal but we will see. Luck of the draw.

I would consider the couple of days of 12/12 technique but I don’t think I’m in a real hurry to find out this time so I’ll just let it happen au naturel.
