The f3 that I got were from Gerry at Colorado Sativas. Out of 10 seeds, 8 were similar and two had much thinner leaves by a few weeks in so I kept those two. Ended up with just one and it was amazingly tough, I literally chopped it in half the first week of flower, then smuggled it from my exes backyard to a closet and it still finished nicely. Smoke doesn’t have the paranoia the F1 did, but has an initial zippy rush from the AG, but a Durban weirdness and wobbles that last a long time. It’s very similar to SMBH, both have a similar strawberry chap stick kind of thing that I can’t get enough of, but SMBH is a larger and more wild plant, better resin and a more euphoric and happy high while the DT has that spooky Durban background. I’m going to plant some of the F2 repro that Huckleberry Skunk did as well as some Durban Tit and F1s this spring and find some phenos to work with and share.
Nice! Those were some of the many I haven’t ran yet (edit: I’m not sure what the SMBH stands for either?), but def hope to someday…especially that Guerrero x Michoacán. I wanna say that the Guerrero Green might have been one of the rare, standout Mexican bricks I remember smoking back in the mid-late 90s, or at least a later hybridized version of it. The high sounds all too familiar, but who knows . It’s not the only Mexican high I’ve been searching to rediscover lol.
As for what I’ve been into lately…I (relatively) recently became a legal MMJ patient, ironically outside of MS after waiting for oh so many years for progress there. That program has some growing pains ahead of it, however, so I’m in no rush to return lol. I still partake in some cannabis caffeine from time to time, but those times have grown much more selective since my work trends more towards the sedentary these days; I just can’t always channel all that added energy. Of what’s legally available to me, I’ve found that the Spritzer cut hits the perfect balance for my neurochemistry for most of the day…later in the evening it’s some variety with a little more bottom end.
Generally though, anything overly sedating is a no go for me—that’s the main reason I was drawn to Sativa/NLD in the first place, but it’s pretty much impossible to find the kind of sativas I want in the med program. A cob cure is obviously out of the question…landraces too for that matter. Neither have I found something worth jar curing for 6-9+ months. Luckily, I’m still occasionally treating myself to some O. Haze from back home that’s now benefitted from about a year-long jar cure…and it’s got this amazing incense + dryer sheet aroma/taste that I love despite not normally caring for those scents individually lol.
Anywho…I’ve probably got a few weeks to decide on what to pull out of storage over the holidays. So I’ll be looking through my list. I’m growing anxious/impatient to determine current viability, so it’ll be multiple Snowhigh lines for sure, likely multiple breeders too. I don’t have a drool-worthy collection from the 60s-80s, but I’m curious about some older seeds I’ve sat on for a while now, like some Spice of Life, Skunkman, Tom Hill, Rez, (what I presume to be) earlier generation BOG, etc…stuff that could possibly be re-pro worthy. Given the amount of time before they were stored in a fridge, I unfortunately have my doubts as to whether they’ll germ
Oh wow…so only 4/30 germ’d for the Quicksilver!? Excellent job on getting it done! I was really keen on keeping those metal haze genetics alive and only have 20 of those stored away. Sounds like I had a good chance at failing there lol
Yeah @MS_Mudcat tried a few methods and want to say I got about 10% germ on the quicksilver. I did a seed run this year so there will be some floating around here I’m sure!
I think in the end I tried 120 seeds and ended up with 11 or 12 all together but I’d have to go back and check. It was a long journey but glad I made it to the end.
This place is a party
The SMBH is Super Massive Black Hole from Snowhigh, which is his Supernova x Vietnam Gold. Supernova is White Malawi x Acapulco/C99. So essentially Malawi, AG and Vietnam sativa effects with some polish from the White and C99.
Its tough in med programs. NYC Medical program would get some ok stuff occasionally, Golden Tiger x Panama was surprising to find, but they picked a shit pheno because the effects were light years behind the GT I’ve grown. Kilimanjaro was solid though as was some of the Flo stuff.
I had Spritzer crossed with African Haze in NYC and it was great stuff. Man, those old Spice of Life as well as the others could have some unreal stuff in them, stoked to see what you get
Fluer De Mal has Steves sweettooth #4 when He was in was spice of life seed company.I dont even think anyone is doing anything with that one anymore
Is anyone has any of his Panama Red increases please shoot me a message. Have lots to trade for them.
I see…I was afraid of that and before stumbling on this thread, I had already been looking through an ICMag thread on germinating decades-old stock and had resolved to get some live worm bins before cracking any in the future. I’ve still got some research papers to read through as well once I have the time.
Has there been any particular lines that have either failed a preservation attempt or are thought lost within the various communities?
I think if you had a decent grip of those Dalat seeds he released the ‘Deewees Dalat’
Its really smart to do a run for yourself and then you have plenty of seeds
That one is one that has been attempted and cant remember how it turned out…
It could use a repro That’s True
About snowhigh as well hes down to have us reproduce anything…Good guy @ heart I think
Some of this is rare…And we are are on edge of full legalize
It will be gone
Time is now Friends
Good to hear a few folks have the ‘sifting spirit’ to run these …find the pheons
Open pollinate, make the IBL…and give it away!
I gave my Dalat to a friend who did a repro, I need to see if I can get those from him and I’ll share here.
Jamaican Bloodklot has been attempted and failed, I sent one pack to a guy on here who didn’t get any to germ, still have one pack left.
Ahh ok! I remember skimming the SMBH thread now…I don’t think I was around to snag that cross from Snow, but I’m extremely interested in the Super Nova. If it’s got Malawi genetics I want it. I’ve only ran ACE Malawi so far without making seed…and am not surprised in the least to find out it’s got some PCK buried within it. I usually let mine finish a little longer to get a more mature cannabinoid profile…and while I wasn’t expecting to soar like a Thai, I didn’t expect such a huge crash on the tail-end of an otherwise spectacular high. Having said that, I’d still run it again.
With a few exceptions, I think they’re pulling plants too early in the program. I was super excited to see (and finally try) some AG in FL…but was really underwhelmed with it. Same with the hazes I’ve tried. Perhaps they needed a long cure and I didn’t give it the chance . The best I’ve done sativa wise has generally been something with Jack Herer genetics…but it’s still not the quality of a really good cut of pure Jack. I haven’t been extremely happy with the gluttony of similar genetics either, but have been pleasantly surprised by the various Runtz crosses. Just like DJ’s blue lines, Runtz seems to impart a really special feel-good effect that does wonders for my mental health…and I’m drooling at the thought of an African Haze crossed to Spritzer!
I’m more inclined to pull a pack or two from lines that are in danger and those for which I have more than 2-3 packs. The Bloodklot falls into both categories if there’s a willing grower
You got that right for sure. We are doing gods work here by the preservations. Even if it is an F3 result that is great, and an IBL is not an unreasonable prospect albeit it takes time. Thanks for your thoughts, I agree.
Count me in. I would be happy to help preserve.
I know I’ve struck out on Acapulco gold x c99 f2, Mexican standoff, Grimm creaper, heroine. I also struck out on Panama red but I think that was user error.
If you have any of those I’d say jump in them.
I also have 2 packs of the Jamaican blood clot that I would donate to someone willing to attempt the repro, If we combined forces and got a few packs together to increase the chances.
So true - and very kind of you to offer…
I have Jamaican Blood Klot and some others as well.
Definitely worthy of a repro
If you’re interested in the repro, let me know.
Sounds like a killer strain but the reality is I won’t get to it for some time, so I’d prefer someone else give it a go and we help increase the odds a bit by combining some packs.
For sure. I’ll donate my last JB pack to the cause. I’m doing a repro of Classic Seeds Mexican Red Hair Skunk from early 1990s bagseed this run, but will be doing a Snow repro in Spring.
