Sons Of Avery's Organic Grow Journals

Decided to drop them down to 12/12 today, and in a about 4 weeks time I’ll drop that to 11/13.

Watered today, 3.5ltr, 1 tsp of quillaja, 5ml or FPJ, 30ml of EM1 activated aloe and some coconut water.

Bottled up my fermented plant extract today as well, there’s a bit of a stink to it, but once it diluted its not bad. I’m testing it out on the outdoor plants first.

Did some more defoliating tonight, mostly below the screen, couple from the top to allow light through to some slightly lower.
Also watered in with 5ltrs with 1tsp Quillaja, these girls are thirsty now! Going to keep a close eye on the soil moisture over next week or so while they stretch into flower.

They’re definitely thirsty!
At lights on tonight I watered in 7.5ltr. With the following
1tbsp of Quillaja
8ml of FPJ (Thistle flower)
25ml of Aloe activated EM1
100ml Cocunut Water.

I also decided to make a PPFD/Par map and quickly realised that my light isn’t hanging in the centre of the tent.
It’s slightly off to the side because the carbon filter is in the way of one of the hanging straps. But it’s nothing major.
Does explain the shorter plant in the front left corner though :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Yeh, I’m hoping they’ll have some really nice terps to them. And if it’s a functional high too, that’ll be a bonus

The ferments I bottled up? I’ve only used them on the veggies outdoor at the moment, and they seem to be responding really well to them.
I’ll definitely be using it on my indoor next round.
I’m just sticking with the FPJ at the moment on these, as I’ve made it specifically for flowering.

Popped my head into the tent tonight at lights on, to get a pic. Quite happy with how they’re coming along, nice healthy growth and starting to stack some nodes.

I had a little dig in the top soil as I noticed an explosion of predator mites, and I spotted some fungus gnat larvae, knew it was too good to be true that they’d all gone haha.
So I watered in 2lts with 20ml of emulsified Neem oil to hopefully kill em off a bit.
The predator mites should keep them in check too, fingers crossed.

*edit, counting this officially as day 7 of flower.

Can the predator mites survive the neem?
If not, then you might have made it harder for them and easier for the gnats by adding yet again more water.
When you kill something it always causes a chain reaction, everything is connected.

Ah the predator mites are everywhere haha, whole tent is crawling with them lol, they’ll be back in the soil in no time

Yeh, I’ll be honest, the not watering the top soil just doesn’t do it for me. I know you swear by it, but I prefer the moisture to that layer and having gnats might just be something I have to live with to have that.
But fingers crossed the neem will nock these larvae back and the mites will come back to the soil and clear up any stragglers before they can take to the skies lol.

It’s like an epic war story unfolding in my mulch layer

I’ve read that neem oil can be detrimental to the life in your soil. Even when you’re doing foliars with it, you’re supposed to take care that too much doesn’t drip down into the soil. I don’t know why the oil is bad, but a neem meal tea is fine to water with, but I have read that.

Yeh, I’ve been reading up on it, and it works kind of indiscriminately as a pesticide. I’m not too worried about the predator mites, as they were literally covering the sides of the fabric pot and the plastic trellis

So there’ll be plenty that aren’t in the soil when i sprayed.

It’s strange I’ve heard the same about the foliar spraying, but then I’ve seen people recommend it as a soil drench too…

Turns out it’s also not legal to use as a pesticide
here in UK. Learn something new everyday haha.

That’s not what I meant when I said that neem oil is bad for the life in your soil. I was talking about the life IN your soil, the fungal strands and bacteria and everything else that’s going on in the soil itself, the things that make organic growing work.

You wanna keep that stuff thriving.

That could very easily be because your politicians are bought-and-paid-for by some sorta petro-chemical fertilizer conglomerate. I dunno how it works in the UK, but that’s how it works here in the US. Things that are fine to use for plants or humans or whatever all else get outlawed because lobbyists make it so.

Neem oil’s perfectly fine to use ON your plants; just don’t drench with it.

Yeh, it’s pretty bad for that here, 90% of our politicians are in someone’s pocket. Bought and paid for by CEOs, bankers and Media Moguls. They don’t even hide it half the time, they declare ‘donations’ and take 2nd jobs and positions on Boards with companies who want influence.

Ah yeh, I see what you mean :+1:
I was sort of hoping that the neem being mixed into a couple litres would just soak through top inch or so and deal with the gnat larvae. The soil biology will be able re colonise that top layer soon enough…that’s what i hope anyway!

Yeah, maybe with only two liters, that wouldn’t be enough for a true “drench,” as long as you kinda spread it out. Whenever I foliar, I definitely make it a point to kind of “mist” the mulch, but I go easy. I wouldn’t ever drench with neem oil, though. Do you not have the meal? Just make a neem tea and add some gnatrol to it, should take care of the gnats.

I don’t understand why the gnats are so persistent in your grow haha! For real, whenever I water with Gnatrol, they’re gone. Are you sure you’re adding the proper amount to your water? If I remember correctly, it’s one tablespoon per gallon of water for a heavy infestation (which it sounds like you have).

Only half the time? That’s pretty good! Haha. They’re extremely blatant about it here. It’s why I always bitterly chuckle when the right-wingers in the US are like,”We gotta get the money outta politics! And no! I WON’T vote for somebody who doesn’t take corporate money! Because they’re SOCIALISTS!”

You. Fucking. Dumbasses…

I’ve added double that before and it has knockdd them back a bit, but i have a feeling it’s probably not viable anymore. I havnt been storing it in the fridge, and read recently that you’re supposed to.

I ran out of neem when I made this batch of soil, and the place I get it from was out of stock last I checked.
I need to get some more though for my next lot of soil I’m making for the winter veggies outdoors.

It never fails to amaze me what people get upset about, without actually having a clue what they’re upset about
The term Socialism has definitely been made a dirty word in the political sphere in the UK and the US (via linking it to communism and Russia, China etc as a negative thing).
But all these people who are so against socialism don’t even know that it’s basically the reason why we have;
Paid holidays, safety regulations at work, social security/benefits system, weekends, rights to vote, minimum wages, right to withdraw your labour, health care (in the UK at least)…

Anyway back to the plants

Bit of a photo dump of the garden plants.
@HorseBadorites just posted them all here, instead if clogging up your thread with my veggies.

Tomatoes are coming along nicely, although it rained for like 3 days solid and that’s caused a couple to split. Not too much of a worry though.
The chilli pepper I rescued from B&Q in their discount section, I hate seeing potted plants on those shelves, dying and underwater. If I could save them all I would haha.

Some Rhubarb chard, mixed lettuce and garlic in this pot.

Apricot Dahlia starting to flower, can’t wait for this to burst into full bloom.

Now nobody will visit my thread, lol!

You have it going on! We’ve been swamped with tomatoes for the last week, can’t give them away fast enough, and we can only eat so much gazpacho and tomato juice… but we try.

What kind of chilies have you got? Those nice smooth leaves are a sign, to me, they’re getting plenty of Ca, nice. Before everyone and his mother got into orchids, I used to be able to pick up the misfits from the box stores for cheap. Ms H is a great nurse. Rescues are so satisfying, when they live!

I love dahlias. Monty Don had an episode on the British King of Dahlias, just amazing. We have some nice ones, and I’ve also been trying to get some dinner plate ones going, but they come out more like little saucers, lol!

Nice one!

I belive they’re ‘Fresno’ from the label, just didn’t want to see it wilt away on the shelves at a shop.
Hopefully they’ll do well now, seemed to have recovered in last week or so.

Yeh, I’ve seen some get crinkled leaves, is that the Ca deficiency? All of my plants outdoors are in basically the same soil as my cannabis indoors.
I add most of the same amendments to every pot in the garden, even the flowers. And I’ve noticed they’re all thriving! Some have been flowering for months now non stop. Its beautiful to see.

I’ll have to check that out, been a while since I watched any of his shows.
Fingers crossed you get some dinner plates soon enough!!
