Sons Of Avery's Organic Grow Journals

Popped my head into the tent again tonight at lights on.
I was curious to see how the neem had affected the top layer. And I’m a bit confused now :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’s absolutely thriving.
Mites, fungus, worms the lot.
I know it might take a couple days to ‘work’, so I’ll keep an eye on it.

Still looking happy! :seedling:
Will give them a tea in 2 days time.

Already posted this in the Worm Bin thread.
But figured I’d ask here incase anyone knows.

Can you feed curds from making LABs to a worm bin?

I’ve managed to get aprox 800ml of LABs from my first attempt, pretty happy with that!
Will be testing it on the outdoor plants first, they’re my test subjects :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
If all goes well, I’ll add it to the indoor next week

Aren’t you supposed to avoid giving dairy/meat to your worms? That’s what the curds are, right, is like a by-product of the LABS?

Def test it first…interesting to see the results. I’d imagine a little will go a long way.

I’m not saying you should, but I dumped it in our worm/compost bin…none left home

That’s what I keep reading, but I’ve seen people say that it can be composted…

I’ve put some in there, will see what happens haha.
It’s not like I’ll be making a lot of this stuff regularly.

I’ll be starting on the lower end of the scale, 10ml per litre. Apparently it can be used in higher concentration to clean chicken coops… shame I Don’t have a chicken coop

I just let the fungus gnats roll and the predator mites keep them in check.

Incorporating bio char to the ground in enclosures and pens for chickens and pigs reduces/eliminates smells too apparently. I’ll have my chicken coop done in a week or two. I’ll give it a try out and report back if I have a smelly coop or not :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Congratulations on your new baby!! Truly a miracle .

I’ve used at least a half inch of sand on top of the soil to battle fungus knats. After they are gone you can scrap it out if you want.

Yeh, honestly they don’t ever really cause a problem, just an annoyance. I’m probably just going to live with the few I do have. Although I havn’t seen any for nearly a week now fingers :crossed_fingers: .

Yeh, can see that working, like a carbon filter I suppose.
I read yesterday that the LABs can be used as drain cleaner too, I’m guessing it just eats away at anything. Might it a try this weekend, see what applications it has.

Thanks! :raised_hands: best thing that ever happened to me!

Yeh, a physical barrier will definitely do the trick after a long enough time…
I might try that if they return en masses

All looking good, some of the leaves have a bit of ‘dust’ on them, just some aloe residue from their ipm spray yesterday.

I’ve also invented a new technique! I call this the ‘Ave Shave’ :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: instead of completely removing leaves blocking lower branches, just ‘shave’ the middle 3 leaflets. (This might already be a thing haha)

Gnats are a thing of the past, new problem is predator mites :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
On the outside of the tent!
Guessing they’ll just die off when there’s not enough food for them.

WCA will help with that

Yes, absolutely!!!

I’d just assumed it was due to the heavy rains and over swelling. I’ll give them a top dress before I water in with some of the LABs tomorrow.

Took some pictures in the garden this afternoon and captured some great shots of couple hoverflies on the Apricot Dahlia just after it rained

Indeed, the WCA will soften the skin kinda making it more elastic. Spray directly on the fruits. You can use solo without any other KNF inputs.

Ah I see, that’s cool to know.
It’s a bit late for the ones that have split already, but I’ll bare that in mind for future crops!
Thank you!

Yesterday i watered in aprox 4ltr with 1tbsp Quillaja, 8ml of FPJ & 8ml LABs.

Today they’re all looking perky!
Purple Diesel Daze at the back.

The two Durban x Zkittles from CSI

And a quick look at the garden.
Tomatoes are starting to ripen, beans are flowering and I planted some Carrots, Kale and purple sprouting broccoli for a winter harvest hopefully.

Last but certainly not least!
I planted some Bodhi tree seeds (Ficus Religiosa), tried to time the germination of these to pop when my son was born, (they take 2-4weeks to sprout)
From 20+ seeds one popped up, roughly a week before my son was born.
